The Fleetwood Mac version is way better. Bob covered it again so he could generate more royalties and sales... The rest of this "album" is great - Ebony Eyes, Hot Love, Cold World, Danchiva are great tunes... but go to Bare Trees for the original version of this song.....
wow, I can't believe I stumbled upon this song... the 70's & 80's will be a big part of who I am... and for sure its music like this that brings it back so vividly... fukin' luv it!
I'd give the rest of my life to go back when this song came out and tell Michelle C. of Lincoln High, Des Moines, Ia. how much i Loved her. If only God would tell me - where are you now, dear one? i have missed you so much, for over 33 years now. i didn't just love you - i was IN Love with you. Your hair, your jewlery, how you dressed; even the way you smelled. When you met 'someone' it broke my heart. i couldn't be your 'friend'. 1978 was a long time ago, but only if you measure it in years...
@RevRonL My heart goes out to you Rev. I think most of us had someone we loved and miss from those important and impressionable years of our lives. I still feel the pain from some of those days as well. I hope the Lord brings the two of you together again someday. If anyone can do it He can. One think I just learned is that she nor you will be the same after that amount of time and you may have second thoughts after meeting her. That has been one of my recent experiences.
@RevRonL I dated a girl my senior year in SW Iowa. We broke up right after I graduated. Found her two yrs ago, we married in Sept. It was meant to be. Good luck to you.
@upoophead Sweet - Congratulations! Michelle shall stay in my thoughts only, though often, and my heart always. Am SO happy for you both, really - just too cool. Thank you.
I was 17 when this song came out. I remember dancing to this song at the Sadie Hawkins dance with the girl that asked me out. Take this song, thrown in a couple of Ambrosia tunes, a couple of Al Stewart tunes, and a little Paul Davis...nice glass of wine...hot tub...close your eyes...and drift off...
@oldenmcgroen It was my senior year in high school back in Detroit, and you nailed it my friend. Only difference was, we used a smoked a little herb, some Corvoissier, and dimmed lights- Talk about heaven! Lol.

Great song brings back so many good memories, being a young teenager so free and carefree, oh good times wish we could rewind time, if only for a day!!!!

Yes, Bob Welch is great. Lindsey's musical genius and Christine's melodious voice are an exquisite addition to a mesmerizing original Mac song by Bob. This is just a sample of what might have been a wonderful 6-person lineup in '75! Imagine how many more "rumors" would have made it into songs:)
it was 78 and a girl kinda chunky but so sweet ask me to take her to the prom at paramount high in paramount ,ca and we ended up at the disneyland grand hotel and danced to this and the bee gees.I am choking up and the greatest of times though are still ahead for us.
@fenderstratguy I get out plenty bro, and after 40 years of hardcore music listening, playing and writing I just happen to know what I like. Don't you wish you were that fortunate! Rock, roll and soul's best years are the 60's and 70's. Period. Or does that interfere with your love of Poison, Pearl Jam or Coldplay.
@fenderstratguy I agree with you, "depedro99" really needs to get out more. I love 60s/70s music as much as anybody, but there's been a lot of great music since then, and the fact he assumes you listen to only Poison, Pearl Jam and Coldplay just shows how ignorant he is.
Check out U2, R.E.M., Crowded House, XTC, The Police, Radiohead, Tori Amos, Phish, Belle & Sebastian, Sigur Ros, The Mars Volta, Ben Folds, Midlake, Fleet Foxes, etc. -- all excellent music from the past 30 years.
U2, R.E.M., Crowded House, XTC, The Police, Radiohead, Tori Amos, Phish, Belle & Sebastian, Sigur Ros, The Mars Volta, Ben Folds, Midlake, Fleet Foxes all pretty much suck dick.
Phish? Are you fucking serious? Belle and Sbastian? Gag me. And Radiohead is the most pretentious band to emerge in the last 30 years. Give me a break. Go back to your indie rock hole and jack off to the Decemberists.
@HumblePie76 If you really hate all those artists then I can't believe you actually like this Bob Welch song either, so I don't know why you're bothering to post here. I was offereing some suggestions to fans of mellow 70s rock who didn't think there was much good music out there today. It was none of your business.
P.S. All your favorite bands suck too. Nanananabooboo.
@depedro99: Having been born in 1970, and recalling music as far back as about '74, I'd have to agree. With the exception of Van Halen, and perhaps Foreigner 4 (as *one* ALBUM, nothing after that), "Rock" as we know it, was pretty much dead. I love "Pop", but it completely put Rock out of business by about '83 or so (VH being the exception). The only savior, has been perhaps Greenday, and a few others (more "Pop/Punk").
@ScottMacFie You make a good point. There are exceptions. Although even Van-Halen and Foreigner (bands I also like) had there best years before 1980. Van-Halens debut (1978) may be the best debut album ever, and if you're not familiar with Foreigner's 1st album (1977) check it out. Really good.
No doubt, with Welch, similar to The Eagles when they went with Joe Walsh, to go along with Schmidt, Henley, et al.
They DIDN'T NEED Walsh, but they set their egos aside, and addded a wonderful artist to the band.....I think with F-Mac, there were some HUGE egos, and it probably started with Lindsey and Stevie, who THOUGHT they WERE THE BAND; and for all practical purposes, they were, but why not expand your horizons???
I enjoy both versions. If I had to choose I guess it would be the Bare Trees version.
This song is roughly one minute shorter and is more polished. Also Lindsey Buckingham is on guitar and backing vocals, Christine and Mick and Bob is playing bass. I like to think that this what the Mac would've sounded like if Bob had stayed. Both versions of the song are great. Enjoy!
Rare stuff right here. Bob Welch, who was with Fleetwood Mac in the lean years, before Fleetwood Mac made it really big. I love this song! Off "Bare Trees".....this vid needs more than 1754 views and this, mine, 3rd comment......too good a song......XD
College days and young love -- a wonderful memory song for me!

This is a great track.
I have it on a compilation album called "FRUITY".
It was an album released in the mid 70's by Warner Brothers.
It was a kind of "taster" album of all their artists at that time.
It also features Alice Cooper, Ry Cooder, Curved Air, Fanny, the Faces, and a load of other Bands.
This was of course the Fleetwood Mac contribution.

This reminds me when I was 15 and had a crush on a red-head named Steve Johnson. Beautiful memories. Wish I was 15 again.

Enjoy!

I remember going to The Tower theatre in philadelphia sometime early 70's and there was two new band members. Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham.
I remember thinking , "who are these guys"?. They lost me that night.

Having heard both versions, I thought that Fleetwood Mac's was more "polished." Anyway, this is soft rock at its finest.

Rare stuff right here. Bob Welch, who was with Fleetwood Mac in the lean years, before Fleetwood Mac made it really big. I love this song! Off "Bare Trees".....this vid needs more than 1754 views and this, mine, 3rd comment......too good a song......XD

I agree, Misshair; Both versions are really good! I have the Fleetwood Mac version on their 4-CD Box-set, "The Chain".
