I got my ass paddled in high school back in '66 because of this song. We were in this huge "study hall" auditorium where the slightest noise is a big no-no. I snuck out my transistor AM radio but it had no sound. Battery? I racked the volume up, heard the background hissing of the station, but before I could back it off, "GOOD LOVIN" exploded from the speaker. I had turned it on precisely at the break in the song following the organ solo. Now age 60, that's what I remember of this song.
@mnpd007 Good One, I'm still chuckling over it. Simlar story but not anywhere as good as yours. Thx 4 sharing. Ah, what great memories we have before headphones took over our lives.
Dino used those felts on top of his cymbals. At the time, THAT threw us drummers for a curve. At school, "why'd he do that ?" So, we had to do it too !!
"I was feelin, so sad. I asked my family doctor just what I had. I said " Doctor...Mr. MD. Can you tell me what's ailing me? He said..yeah yeah yeah yeah....
Yes, indeed...all I..really need..is good love, good love"!
That organ is not a C-3 or B-3. It is actually a model D built in the '40s and has two tone generators, no vibrato, no percussion but is essentially the groundwork for the later models, the CV.BV,B2,C2,B3,and C3. These organs was/were/are the ONLY thing you can buy that last over 70 years. Think about that! An AMERICAN icon.
I got to meet Gene Cornish while taking photos at the Barnaby Bye concert on June 4th for the band this past weekend. Great guy and a great guitar player. They played GOOD LOVIN with Gene and the place went wild. Gene announced that THE RASCALS, all original members, will be getting back together for new shows!
@MattHatter Absolutely... the best! Just as this tune is one of the best rock tunes of its day…I was about 12yrs when this tune came out and remember my friends with their garage band trying to learn it….they lacked an organ.
The best drummer in rock and roll, Dino Danelli. The bass comes from Felix on the B3, one of the few rock keyboard players who knew how to play the pedals with his feet and very well.
@bobpinello The trademark Hammond B-3 sound of the Rascals came by accident. Felix Cavaliere was playing a VOX keyboard but was forced to play the B-3 when there was not enough room on the stage for Felix to put his VOX keyboard before they were to perform. The rest is history.
I love this stuff, seein' these bands again -- especially all the unplugged instruments and dead mics. Network wouldn't allow "Live" for a spell, so they'd have to play "live" just to each other while the record was played as the broadcast audio.
@DYNODRUM Hope that didn't come off in any way as a put-down, my comment. Just what they had to deal with via the tech at the time. It's fun watching! Love it.
@sleepingcatt No not at all/Just was agreeing w/you basically .They were an amazing Band , to experience Live . I, have seen few ,today that can touch them .
Who's on bass, benji?
