Different things Tornados and cyclones, the latter being more common in the southern hemisphere and often more severe..but guess you don't live in that part of the world, judging from your English

Here is some of the Nine news report...

The tornado, which tore through Lennox Head about 7.30am (AEST) on Thursday, sheared off roofs, smashed windows, overturned caravans and downed power lines.

No one was killed but six people were injured as the 150km/h winds hit.

Far out thats scary. I woke up this morning to the news on the morning show. Im in Coffs Harbour and iv seen a few water spouts the past few yrs but never seen one approach land.

I live in Lennox too. It was a water spout. There is worse damage than that too. People are so lucky.

I live near Kansas City in the U.S. you folks had a small tornado......am also a storm spotter as well.....hope all is well. Also glad no fatalies! You guys have a good alarm system!

Thank you so much... we are from SA, on an around Aussie holiday, mum & 13yr old son in a car, tent and swags, and currently in Newcastle heading up the coast on Friday. Thank goodness we were not in your caravan park at the time! Hope all is okay. Media reports say a one person is missing, others injured... our thoughts are with you there in Lennox Head.
