  • Jim, what loop pedal are you using? I want one!

  • GREAT GREAT GREAT - I wish i played like that

  • Everything's made in Korea or China asshole!!!

  • @Kriceize Really, man. Think about that. Yeah, a lot of stuff is...but not Everything.. calm down.

  • 0:39 made me feel as if I was on a road trip in Texas. Awesome sound.

  • sex to my ears!

  • the opening bars sounded like rebel rouser.

  • This is so rock and roll. Loved it. Wish I has a spare 800 bucks for a Gretsch. Not to mention the cash to change out the stock pickups with TVJs.

  • @hackr69 @anotherBluesBrother These are the original electromatic humbuckers. But they're so muddy, I'm going to change mine to some P90's or pretty much anything other than these once the warrantee's expired.

  • Love the tone and love the playing! The 5120 is a good guitar. I had one until I sold it to buy a Country Gentleman. I left it stock and had a great time playing it. My non-guitar friends liked it because it looked so cool!.

  • why not put Tv pups in the 5120 at the Korean shop? Seems no one really likes them much? From what I seen and read everyone replaces the pick ups.

the woods can not be real good tone woods like on the Pro models?

Thus the price i would think?

  • 2:05!

  • Hey Jim where can I find the same tabs you are using.

  • whats the price in the UK for these babies?

  • One word: Superb

  • Is it true that Fender awhile back bought the Gretsch factory. And when they did, like almost most of their product line started manufacturing these in China. Great playing. I love this style of music.

  • @guitarjammer1 Fender have been in control of the marketing and distribution since 2002 but they do not own the company. Some of their cheaper guitars are being made in China but I'm not sure about the 5120

  • @JohnnyFriendly The 5120 is made in Korea.

  • sweet

  • Amazing tone and playing!

  • are rockabilly leads typically in blues scales? this sounds excellent, Jim

  • Mr Fogarty.... Brother you cook. Nice rockabilly finger picking. Sure wish I could find an instructor who could teach me THAT :) After listening to you I had to go pull my Elvis at Sun album and listen to Mystery Train. Your picking right in there with Carl Perkins.

  • Great playing and a great guitar. Planning on getting a Gretsch G5120 very soon in fact the same orange colour.

  • keep on the mystery train!!

  • Beautiful playing and beautiful guitar

  • This all sounds like mud. I would swear those are the stock crap pickups. Get a real mic or place the camera mic somewhere near the speaker.

  • @mikecazzx - After reading your comment I went to your YT channel to see the videos you must have uploaded of you playing a Gretsch that has both better playing and better audio quality, but I couldn't find any? Am I missing something? So, I believe I'm going to have to say STFU.

  • awesome playing mi amigo, you really catch my atention, pure sweet warm tone with country,rockabilly.style.saludos

  • What a great demo. That's exactly how Gretsch should be played. Toneful playing, Jim!

  • please, u have the tabs?

    name that u play?

  • @MKZtheProphet is a classical rockabilly riffs..

but you can listen mystery train by Elvis.

  • Hey Jim I am new at guitar 1 1/2 yrs where can I get good instruction for this song note for for note and how lg have you been playing, you are good and what strings are you using 11 flats or other. thank you. Dan.

  • why do i see people with the orange 5120??? to me the color is ugly!!.... but thats just my opinion.. i have one in walnut stain.. the guitar is beautiful though!!!

  • @DGA0602 i personally picked the orange one out of the few available in the shop i got mine from simply because even though walnut stain looked nicer, that particular orange one they had sounded better than all the others.

  • thts soooooo sweeeet

  • excellant, that was great! I want one now!

  • Thanks man)) Just came back from the states) Got Myself a 5120 and two TV Jones classic pickups) Putting them in right now hope the wood on the 5120 is just as good as the wood on Setzers 6120)))

  • thats a 6120

  • Nice, very nice!

  • Hey Question, What reverb are you using? I really love how smooth it sounds!! Thanks!

  • I'll tell yah,,,, guys like this should be charging the manufacture a fee for this commercial,, cause I'm now going to out and buy a Gertsch 5120

  • Very Well Done !!!!

  • Hey you, Go fuck yourself =D

The man's a great guitar player.

  • can u play beatles style or do i have to get a duo jet

  • can this guitar play jazz, blues or funk?

  • if you can it can lol

  • Are you really asking that ? Can a Gretsch play blues jazz or funk ? Ofcourse it can my god :o

  • yes of course. I've 2 5120 gretsch. But if you want the real Gretsch great sound you must removed the chap picks up from the guitar and put some better quality picks ups. I've put a pair of filtertron on one of my gretsch and it sound now like a brian setzer model. And on the other one i've put one P 90 and one Dearmond to sound like Eddie Cochran. Untortunately i'm to nuts to send videos of my guitars on you tube.

  • looper! - nice...

  • thats a REAL guitar..

  • beautiful

  • brilliant playing!

  • Awesome

  • buitiful guitar man

  • would be there any tabs?

  • Look up Mystery Train on a tab site or youtube video. That'll get you started. I think he's improving a lot of it, so why would he tab it?

  • nice, soft and clean, the way its supposed to be.

  • Wow! Sweet as candy. Beautiful playing and what a sound! Nice one mate.

  • really cool rockabilly fingerpicking style guitar!

  • that was pretty cool..beautiful guitar

  • what would you say those delay settings are? a simple quick slap back?

  • Is this the same Jim Fogarty that makes custom paint jobs on guitars. Some of his guitars are incredible.

  • yeehaa :))

  • good licks

  • Just brilliant!

  • is the 5120 a semi-hollow?

  • It's a full hollow-body.

  • b-e-a-utiful

  • People like you should get free guitars for life

  • I want to put in the TV Jones classic pups but I can't see the difference in your bridge and the one that came on mine from this vid. can u describe it or do a vid about it? thx. good playing btw.

  • I have one of these and love it...the action, twang and sound, is perfect for some rockabilly and blues playin

  • I have one of these and I don't know where to place the bridge. Any suggestions?

  • Comment removed

  • Cool

  • does anyone know of this guitar has a volume knob for each pickup?

  • Each pickup has its own volume pot. There's also a master volume and a master tone. Those are the four knobs.

  • awesome! now i definitley buying one of these! thanks a lot!

  • What are the chords you are playing here?

  • it's mystery train. search for tabs and you'll know.

like your guitar, looks like you got tvjones pickups in there!? very nice!!! I'm going to buy the same guitar and put tvjones classic PUs in there.

  • what a fuck!!! Great rockabilly arpeggio!!

  • Thanks again, guys!

Just a reminder, as mentioned below......

Those are TV Jones in there. I upgraded to a TVtronClassic neck and Classic + bridge. I'm running into my old Deluxe Reverb, through a delay and Boss Loop Station.

  • @jfog10 put up a video of the filtertrons you've got in there and plz do a proper demo a step through each pick up combination, volume/tone settings that would be special. thanx =)

  • @jfog10 I have an exact copy of your demo guitar and it is my work guitar. The best that I have found in 69 years of pickin and I have many gretsches and Gibsons, including 175's and L-5, and L-7. It's just a solid, dependable friendly guitar for me.

  • Isn,t the gretsch 5120 an awsome guitar . I finally got one and love it .

  • Love it. Gretsch all the way. Keep Rockin!!

  • is the neck really thick or is is just average?

  • The neck feels like a studio les paul neck. I other words, not thick.

  • Love that Gretsh do you play with a band or where do you play or just for personal fun?

  • great name for a guitarseries ;-) real catchy name ;-)

  • lust got a 5120 like this and it does wail! best bang for the buck! forget about "relics"

  • great playing. Best loop pedal i would recommend akai headrush 2. under £100, played and used by K T Tunstall and demo'd on youtube. These gretsch electromatics are great for the price i have a duo jet and have wowed people when played one live and they've asked about the guitar and i only payed £190 on ebay!

  • your eyes are beutiful

  • were you using some kind of delay to keep the opening line going?

  • most likely a loop-pedal, which go for a lot of money.

  • Wow love the playing and the tone of that guitar .... Excellent

  • Nice playing...

  • Sounds fantastic, I looked up your video on my path to see if I should get one (played it briefly at the store). I think I'm sold.

  • Its John FogErty -_-

  • LOL. This guy's name IS Jim Fogarty. -_-

  • Ah. IC :P

  • The Beginning sounds like Rebel Rouser, then Mystery Train

  • Great sound and great playing!

  • great great great playing! may buy a new one for 300$ good deal huh? i need to learn this style of music first. anyone name me some artist with this style?

  • Chet Atkins

    Merle Travis

    Brian Setzer

    Reverend Horton Heat

    Marty Stuart

All great pickers, all sorta in the ballpark of what this gentleman in doing.

  • the guitarist make the guitar sound better.

looking for classic dreadnought acoustic flat top. who is best. thanks.

  • I just got my Deep Cherry Stain 5120 today. Can't play as well as you, but the guitar still sounds awesome!

  • Added your video to my vlog. I have a 5125 and it's great for recording. thanks, ran

  • LOVE the bends around 2:15 !! you got an incredibly authentic touch and the sound just kills

  • you never explained what is a bend.

  • i played one if those today

    dudes, its like a woman

its warm soothing beautiful delicate, and you always want more action

    haha.

    i deffinitly gettin one

  • i need action.

  • the gretsch knows how to give you some :)

  • beam me up to rockabilly heaven, scotty...

  • nice playing

  • Love the Chicken Pickin!! Gotta love all that James Burton inspired stuff!!!

  • Actually , it's more like Scotty Moore ... James Burton replicated Mystery Train when he played with Elvis in the 70's , but all that stuff is Scotty ..

  • This is an excellent post! Very enjoyable, and educational. I admit I learned that "Mystery Train" lick from watching this. I keep coming back and learning more licks. Very nice, and thanks for posting. FYI, I have that same 5120 and really enjoy it. I'll post a couple of my licks as a response. (I don't know if they're as good as this tho.... :-) )

  • wow!

  • I have one ordered...But I have a question? No one seems to have a case for the guitar except maybe one that costs half as much as the guitar!...anybody know where to get a reasonably priced case..there must be a match of one of the Gibson sizes to fit it?...guitarbootman

  • I bought my Gretsch at Guitar Center, and got a Road Runner case for it (which fits perfect) for $80.

  • Yea - it's a problem.

Try Blackrider Guitars (do a google search) - they have cases for as low as $79

  • I want One !

  • aside from the playing rather it be country or blues this guitar is friggin' sweet!!! my cousin has one it's friggin' awesome!!!!

good for classic rock and blues.

not good for metal or punk.

but If your going out for the jazz band, you can't beat a gretch.

  • You want punk..or metal??..then add a bit of gain and drive and you've got punk and metal....a Gretsch can be anything you want it to be...seriously.

    Thanks for posting this one!!

  • But you must be out of your mind to buy a Gretsch when wanting to play punk or metal. Get a Jackson or BC Rich if you're into that type of music...

  • tim armstrong from rancid/the transplants is a longtime gretsch user. punk rock is just an extenion of rock and roll afterall. and is a step closer than bc rich-style metal...

  • If this is John Fogerty (note spelling here) I will slice off my big toe, fry it up and eat it in a sandwich with BBQ sauce!

It is a country style lick sequence which Fogerty sometimes uses-good try

  • are you retarded?

  • Actually, no I'm not retarded-but I did mis-read the name-it was too early when i saw it...so used to people posting sham clips. Obviously the guy's name is Jim Fogarty..not john fogerty..however, no need for rudeness on your part sonny

  • Calm down window lickers.

  • lol@people who think this is him posting the video

    read the description XD

  • What do you start playing at 0:13?

This has been bothering me for a while.

    Thanks

  • 1st thing I did was drop an extra 25 on the Bay & get the cream colored pick guard. Perfect fit. Def. makes the black look better.

  • nice guitar.. i got the G5124

i dont like the clear pick guard, have to say!

    you play reli well! :)

  • NICE MAN, i got the same one about a month ago. I was going for the black until i saw the orange in person. i am infatuated with this guitar and play it every night. Yours sounds great, you got TV Lands or different pickups?

I WAS USING WRONG ACCOUNT ON PREVIOUS MESSAGE BELOW

  • nice, i got the same one about a month ago. I was going for the black until i saw the orange in person. i am infatuated with this guitar and play it every night. Yours sounds great, you got TV Lands or different pickups?

  • Belle démo, mais quelle différence majeure y a t'il entre cette guitare et un haut de game de la même marque?

  • wonderful *clap*

  • that other person commented about a bend but never explained whats a bend. thanks.

  • can you teach me how to do that?

  • I own a black 5120. You really can't go wrong with this guitar. I do advise playing several before you pick one, but these are very nice.

The Epi Casino looks like a Gibson ES335 but the 335 is a semi-hollowbody (it has a solid center block) while the Casino is a true hollowbody.

  • Very nice playing. I got one of these. Bigsby actually stays in tune. It plays & sounds very nice. It is the Single small wood brace under the bridge that scares me. 5120 has Gretsch type buckers. It's the ??? 5125 that has the DeArmonds. I think they're the 2K single coils. I played 2 (Orange)before I found one (Black)that was decent. Danf, would have loved the orange.

  • is this the electromatic?

  • that would be yes

  • So what type of amp are you using and effects and whatnot? It sounds really sweet. I'm in a progressive/psychedelically band and play mine through a VOX, which sounds excellent, but yeah, I like this tone you got here.

  • impress me play something

  • show the rhythm player showoff...

  • nice tune. good playing. Thanks!

  • I just got my 5120 the 3rd of March in the gloss black....MAN WHAT A GUITAR!!!!!! Plays anything you trow at it.

  • That's the sound I have been looking for. What amps or preamps are you using?

  • I have this guitar in a black finish, and it is the greatest guitar. It is very twangy and is great for playing country and rockabilly. It is a great looking guitar and the sound is amazing. I highly recomend anyone to get this guitar. The bigsby whammy bar is great for rockabilly. I love this guitar.

  • mee too i have in orange VERY COOL GUITAR!!!

  • Hell YES! That's all I have to say!! Fantastic! I've made up my mind on what I'm gonna buy!

  • don't bid on the one i am lookin' at! lol!

  • i have a gretsch 5124.. and i never played or even liked country... but through me.. that guitar has got me playing country music.... such a wonderful guitar.... i think basicaly we have the same guitar.. but myne is White! :)

  • wowowo! great stuff you play. i have the same guitar and i am constantly working on the mystery train. mine sounds a lot rougher. eddie (tdpri-friend)

  • awesome setzer piece

  • Pretty guitar. Did you have to play around with it to get it working nice or was it good straight from the box? I heard sometimes they need a bit of a set up .

  • how come i can hear two guitars? where is rythm comming from?

  • loop

  • fantastic sound, what amp do you recomand for

gretscH? great pick`in keep it up!

  • Well I am not Jim, but this is what he writes about this vid on FDP forum:

5120--->delay----->LoopStation----> LOW volume DR------>iMac's internal cam and mic.

I hope he wouldnt mind me posting it here..

  • cool , great rockabilly sound, reminds me of scotty moore in his best days

  • I'm sorry - I meant the 1:40 mark, not 2:40.

  • please tell me where your fingers are on the licks at the 2:40 mark - I've been trying to figure that one out.

  • is it 1st string 3rd fret and 3rd string 5th fret, and then keep that interval and slide it up and down? it is TOUGH to figure...

  • GRETSCH PICKUPS ARE AMAING!!!

  • Your playing deserves a Gretsch, my friend.

    Beautiful music.

    Phil T

  • Gretsch are beatifulf ucking guitars to say the least.

  • great playing. keep rockin!!!

  • I'm not a fan of rockabilly, but the G5120 is, to say the least, an epic fucking instrument.

  • brilliant mate

  • i found this for $500 on musicians friend which is around £290!

My Ibanez Artcore was £250 though and i can get the exact sound! i'm really pleased and surprised about it.

but i love my dad's friends old western nashville

  • Hey do they sell this model in The form of a Lefty?

Got the Hagstrom Viking but i want one of these asap.

    Cheers.

  • I haven't seen one, just pull a jimmy and flip it though.

  • What amplifier are you playing this through? it sounds really good?

  • low cost? how much?

I'm mad on gretsch's i'm desperate to own one

I love rockabilly which is unusual for a 14 year old but i've grown up surounded by rockabilly cos my dad's in The Humdingers.

I have an Ibanez artcore which is no-where near as good as a gretsch.

Brilliant playing I'm gonna put it on my bebo.

  • Its a $600 guitar. I got mine for $450 with a hard case. I'm not usually good at the whole negotiating thing, but I'd say I did good. THE THING ABOUT THIS GUITAR: Because its a lower end model, the quality is inconsistent. I've played multiple guitars of this make. Some play like a $200 guitar, others (like mine :)) play like a $2000 guitar. Before you buy, play it a bunch.

  • wered u get it 4 $450 and a case?

  • Amazing that even a 'low cost' Gretsch throws out that great sound.

    Thanks for your show :o)
