  • Largo in baroque music is faster than Adagio or Lento (all italian terms) this performance is too slow (really if I consider Quantz essay or some other source of XVIII century) and boring (according to my taste)..

  • @zaffiro61 The tempo is alright with me. Bach's music is boring? I think you need a brain transplant.

  • @mtv565 I have never said that Bach's music is boring. Do you know how to read? I have only said that the tempo used in this performance is too slow. Do you know the meaning of italian term 'Largo'? If I compare this performance with the others I know (Nicolet, Harnoncourt, Goebel and some other) I'm sure that the tempo used here is too slow. So I think also that you need a brain trasplant, or learn to read!

  • @zaffiro61 There's nothing wrong of the tempo of this performance. Bach music works in all various tempos. Didn't you know that?

  • @mtv565 I don't think so. This piece at this time and with that 'vibrato' doesn't work well. I suggest you to listen other performances.

  • @zaffiro61 If this performance's tempo is wrong, they won't receive applause and so many people paying money to watch them play. And, you're just a nobody.

  • @mtv565 you are right I'm just a nobody also If I'm a flute teacher in an high school in Italy but I have my ideas concerning Bach and interpretation. These kind of performances are good for american people....More than Bach it looks Brahms. I'm nobody but you who are?

  • wow is this bad

  • to those who say that this performance is to slow:

there is no single, best way to perform a piece. there are many possible interpretations that each have their own beauty and significance. even the composer may envision multiple, valid interpretations.

furthermore, there is no way to know what, if any, specific tempo Bach would have preferred or stipulated.

i personally find this tempo very relaxing and beautiful.

  • more cowbell

  • 2:40 : )

  • This is "Largo", folks.

  • @herodot2 exactly, nor an adagio neither a lento.

  • i see some little orange titties

  • @OceanderTethyseus When a pickpocket meets a saint, all he sees is his pockets.

  • @crashbigtime

when an idiot meets a pickpocket and a saint, all he sees is a saint and someone who wants to pick pockets.

  • what year was this?

  • Gorgeous music, beautifully played. The "slow" tempo brings out the inherent beauty of the music.

  • i love trio sonatas so much i am going to write on in a modern style :P

  • I love to listen to all the parts, thank you for playing such beautiful musik!!

  • Very beautiful.

  • such a peacefull and deeply religious music...

  • ...if you equate slow with "peaceful".

    But religious?

  • 小提琴美女是否韩国郑京和?

  • 我认出来了,应该是大键琴小提琴长笛大提琴四重奏。好啊!很赞!!

  • OF COARSE Sanquitang I FULLY AGREE. very clear.

  • @sanqiutang It's not for 4 instruments, the cello and harpsichord are part of the basso continuo. cello + harpsichord = considered as 1 single instrument/part. Hence, with flute and violin parts, it becomes 3 = TRIO sonata.

  • Is this sonata really BWV 1079? According to the BWV this number is the "Musikalisches Opfer", not hte sonata displayed here. Please correct the number!

  • It is the trio sonata which is a part of the BWV 1079 Musical Offering.

  • Well, this sonata is part of the works usually referred to as BWV 1079, the musical offering.

  • chung kyung hwa nice!!

  • He's so much louder than him

  • They are all wonderful musicians but I find interpretation too romantic and the tempo too slow.

  • agreed

  • @zaffiro61 i think so, too. a bit too much vibrato and a bit too slow, but not in the degree that i find it disturbing.

  • @viola989 WAY too much vibrato and ponderous might be a better word; I don't find it disturbing, just annoying.

  • @viola989 Sluggishness more like. Maybe a lesson with the Kuijkens will teach 'em a thing or two.

  • @2880aham I agree with you!

  • @zaffiro61 It's LARGO, of course it is slow.

  • why does this sound like the sicilianio?

  • maybe bach did a remix of his composition by adding the flute.....lol...........and cello.lol.

  • i love how the instruments respond to each other..

  • @dannicron It's a trio sonata, all 3 parts are counterpoint and equal share of melodic material, no part is accompanist or playing chords only.

  • again, it brought me to tears... just beautiful

  • this woman is just amazing.the group is amazing .the music is amazing and the performance is amazing...

  • OMG I wish i could see the 2nd mvmt. also...... the best mvmt. among that trio sonata in Musical Offering

  • grande garvay!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Great performance. I can feel essence of the sonata with her great interpretation, feeling, and move.

  • Very lovely. My mother introduced me to James Galway...and she died 24 years ago...

  • Splendid!

    is that flutist james galway?

  • yes, flutist is james galway, vertuoso.

  • This.. is beautiful.

Yes the violin and flute go very well indeed. Thank you for this lovely video.

  • Hi Seung Taik

Keep uploading more ! I am a fan of Kyung Wha Chung. Is this video released on DVD ? I saw the video tape many years ago in a public library in Singapore. Recently I was told their tape is no longer in their collection, how disappointing !
