thanx so much for that! I knew i had seen it years ago & i suspected mike leigh but wasnt sure, gonna go and watch it again now- thats the one with Phil daniels & tim roth as brothers, isnt it?
it got not so much to do with bernard as coming up sold more copies as suede and DMS did. an influence, yeah, but wasnt the reason! basically brett was struggling with drugs, head music failed with not reaching top20 but 23, a new morning as well. brett ran out of themes to sing about&missed 2 go in a new direction with the band. like radiohead did not another ok computer. maybe bernard could have helped making better progress as he was more skilled in writing songs as richard or neil ever was..
Does anyone know what movie that Brett is watching at 7.24 onwards?? Im sure I have come across it before but I dont recognise it now.... I would really appreciate if anyone know?
Nah anderson wrote the lyrics and butler wrote the music. Anderson looked better when he looked like a woman he had this great image. In the video for trash he looked terrible.
Those are brett's lyrics though. I agree with you that coming up, head music and new morning wasnt as epic. But by there 3rd album they needed a change in sound and you couldent of asked for a better 3rd album than coming up. I think head music was over produced and by far there weakest album. Bernards solo stuff wasnt so great either but i do like his song called stay. Anyway suede's 5 albums are still better than oasis and blurs. To me suede are as good as the smiths.
I love oasis and blur but NO ONE gets close to Suede or the Smiths. Agree with youl
bernards solo stuff is WEAK. interesting but weak.HOWEVER, his work with McAlmond was OUTSTANDING> get the album if you do not have it.
AND, I think if bernard stayed with suede they would have made even better music after DMS. Bernie was a Huge part of the sound that was so STRONG and unique.
I think the Tears are again but nothing like what COULD have been if bernie stayed.
Probably sleeping pills i think thats just beautiful and i also wanna mention the rare b side this world needs a father which was also great. Dont you wish the song simon was on a new morning? Oh how great a new morning could be if only that 1 track replaced the poor single positivity.
@smedley009 It never really "went wrong" - every single band member made enough money to do exactly what they wanted to do with life after they left the band. The kind of "megastardom" Oasis ended up with (tabloid exposes, schmoozing with Blair, repeating themselves for 16 years before calling it a day) would never have sat well with the Suede boys.
bernie get tongue tied at 2:08!

where did it all go wrong? :-( they should have been as big as oasis. they were made for megastardom. so sad.
smedley009 3 years ago 11
where did it all go wrong u ask. hmm
well
it was when Bernard left. u know, given that he wrote the songs that were so amazing.
dont get me wrong, I love the other suede songs, the tears, even bretts solo albums are amazing.
BUt
bernard leaving was the reason why they could not make it to world fame.
oh
and the fact that brett looked like a lady did not help either.
thank god he is out of that phase

without bernard creating the song structure of suede...suede would have sounded like bretts sons..which are asda town, by the sea and so on.
great songs but not the epic songs from the first two albums and the b-sides.
so the REASON why suede did not become huge is because bernard, who was the muscical power in the band, left.
and I still think brett looks a lot better now that he looks like a semiMan and older.
but,
during the DogManStar days he looks kick ass also. coz u rocked on stage
