  • do you think you can get similar results strictly using 3ds max, and not zbrush? i've been modeling for quite some time, but very little familiarity with zbrush.

  • @RainyChief go to the lightbox or w/e it's called I forget atm it's the thing where you can bring up the sphere , cube, and other files that zbrush comes with. Once that's open there should b a tab called brushes one clicked brushes should come up horizontally you do not need to slide it down it should b on the very right. Dam standard

  • very inspiring. thanks for the upload.

  • How can i aquire the dam standard brush?

  • Hey mike I bought your eat 3d dvd and while it is a great help, i got lost at the concepting stage, do I use zspheres to make the entire mesh or do i use regular spheres, and when using zpheres do i make the arms and legs seperate from the torso? i saw in ur concept model you have a lower torso, upper torso, head, arms, forearms, etc, etc should i use zspheres to set it up like that?

  • @ExtremeGam3r64 Hey dude. Recently I've been using anything from zspheres, to shadow boxes, to zspheres 2. I find that it's more comfortable for me to work on separate parts of the body with different subtools so that's more of a preference. Sometimes I start with one subtool and break them up later.

see in this one how i've made the proportions and split up all the major body parts. I hope I explained that ok and that it's helpful! Take care. =)

  • Would you be so kind as to explain a little? You drop the lines 1st with clay tubes and layer , then flatten and make em pretty?

I would love if you could explain a bit please :) Thanks for the video man ! Thanks loads !

  • @djsneeze hey dude you have the basics of it. Practice a bit and it'll feel natural. These days u should try h-polish brush instead of flatten though

  • did you know that you can pinch the edge with not a big amount of intensity to straighten it up and give it a more firm look ?

just slide pinch along the sharp of the edge with the right size it will make it look great , if it goes too much you can smooth then flatten both sides around to get a smooth hard surface ; )

  • are you using a tablet

  • @SUREKILLSALOT can't use this without one.

  • I had no idea that character modeling took This much work!

  • @Tjorvia Its a pain in the ass, but you get used to it, and it gets more easier later. Most hard thing in modelling is the anatomy and details

  • @Tjorvia its also a lot of fun =)

  • @Tjorvia zbrush makes it easy to be honest.. try maya or max LOL then you will see the work it takes

  • @prodigyset420 I've used both programs - not extensively - but I never got quite this far with either program :\

  • holy shit the result is really, really, really awesome. you totally should sent that sauce to bungie. u'll make the front page!

  • that looks like elite feet.

  • lol dude nice halo3 elite =) imaked a character helmet for my udk game and have problems hards sculpting it =(

  • which Brushes did you use?

  • that is just too much work for hard surface modelling , not very efficient, I prefer using Blender for this kind of stuff and keep Zbrush only for organic modeling.

  • @thekilon :) to each their own

  • very nice! keep it up the good work! looks great.. an awsome.

  • @dani4u87 Thank you!

  • Man! That thing is Wicked cool! Keep up the good work!

  • @CthulhuFTW Thanks!

  • zB?? didnt know about this program, i use Rhino 3D and 3DStudio, do u use mouse or tablet?

Really good work, but cant imagine how many hours you've used for skill, congrats.

  • @midgarzolon Thanks man! Tablet for sure. No way to use a mouse for this it would be too hard! :)

  • Damn man. I want to do this in mudbox.

  • @masterpiraka lol maybe u can idk XD

  • @JVIikel

I can only do soft stuff so far (though the flatten brush would be GREAT for stuff like this)

    Currently working on a houndeye.

  • fantastic, learnt a lot.

    thanks man

  • @HelderP1337 Thanks glad you learned!

  • Great video! thank you, cheers!

  • @hakzear Thanks man!

  • haha thanks!

  • skillz there man

  • thanks :P

  • This kind of modelling is definitely good practice even for your organic models.

  • Very true!

  • Wort.

Now that zB3.5 is out, what plans have you concerning this sculpt? Are you considering a remake?

The new Planar Brush tools should make things even easier/more effective than it is already.

  • @TheMasterElite Hey man. I don't plan to redo it because I've already resurfaced it in max :). Although with the new planar brushes in zbrush I was able to create another character using pure zbrush to achieve a very smooth result!.

  • @JVIikel are you flattening the messed up areas then smoothing? cause its hard to smooth in higher sub-divisions

  • @bloodyitachi Hey dude yeah. Smooth it at the lower subdivisions then work ur way up.

  • @JVIikel Hey I was wondering how you create the base shapes for the armor in other words how do you make new objects that match the contours of the body whilst being a piece that's solid when edited by itself?

  • @matthew22389 hey dude in zb4.0 I would use hide all the mesh except teh area I want to duplicate, make polymesh3d, and then remesh, and then use the new remeshed subtool to work ontop of. Hope thathelps.

  • @JVIikel it does thanks

  • good work dude!

I would like t know wich brushes have you used.

i guess the clay tubes, sharpen standard brush, and maybe flatten??

i tried to make any hard surface in zbrush, but it doen,t work, any tutorial would you recommend?

anyway, this one is better than I've already seen. Congratulations

    Sorry for my english

  • Hey dude. Brushes are flatten, dam standard, clay tubes, smooth and layer.

For hard surfacing the only thing i can really recommend is just keep trying and find what works for you. Practice pulling out new forms then flattening them out on a polysphere.

    Hope that helps :)

  • Followin on cgs.

    Love your flow.

  • Thanks dude! I'm glad you like it. It's nice to see where people are coming from :P
