@pipe603 The only thing I can think of right now is to make sure your pedals are hooked up between your guitar and amplifier and not through an effects loop on the amp.

do u have a noise gate or suspressor? my amp make a natural noise that i dont like, and with the phasers its gets wierd..

Guys, im desperately looking for a compact pedal that have Mike's kind of distorted sound, I mean, I know he must have and badass amp. I have a Behringer GX210, I'm talkin about the sound of those "hybrid" chords he uses with dist. in Make Yourself.

I have agree with blaze on this one. Mike definetly does NOT use distortion pedals. For example, nowadays he uses a standard JCM800 head, which has two channels, clean and overdrive. Mike has a channel switcher on his pedal board, so he can switch between the clean and overdrive(distortion) channels. Simple.

I have to mention that distortion pedals are very rare among professional guitarists, since they give a crappy sound compared to tube amps overdrive channels.

Mike actually uses a Vox AC 30 for his clean sound. He switches between those two amps. And forget that brettshell guy, he's just born with some kind of mental "distortion".

Currently, Mike uses Marshall amps for his distorted sound and a modified Vox AC30 for his clean sound. He uses a Whirlwind A/B channel switcher to switch between the two.

I actually read some interview that his Marshall Plexi head is also modified. His guitar tech modded it so that it gives more gain and added a master volume which is at the back of the amp.

Oh man, my last comment really hit the woods.. He used the JCM800 during the recording process of Light Grenades, but in his live set he has the Plexi head.

Effects pedals are all kinds of effects like phaser, delay chorus, etc. But a distortion-related effect is an specific effect which takes the guitar signal and distorts the signal's waveform by "clipping" the signal and adding overtones to it. So pedals with clipping stages are distortion pedals. All other effects are either filtering, modulation, volume, time-based or pitch altering effects.
