  • First time ever seen or heard this song. A friend at work said there is a book about a boy named Pierre, because my name is Pierre, I thought yay yay, I don't care, lol...anyway here is a whole song from a talented lady from an era that this 48 year old is going to do a bunch of searches on the book itself and the related topics, so please enjoy my new story and cartoon..

  • This brings back so many memories, it makes me want to break out in tears.

  • aww i yelled at my mom today watched this and went down and hugged her :'(

  • I was born in the early 80's but still have vague memories of this... interesting

  • It's amazing how well Maurice Sendak's text works as a lyric and how deftly Carole King crafts a beautiful, complex song around it. Harmonically, the music is closer to Steely Dan than Old MacDonald. Yet it perfectly captures and magnifies the emotions of the story. Now when I hear someone just reading Pierre, it seems empty. Carole King's Pierre is a vastly superior piece of children's music.

  • his parents can afford to go out on the town, but they cant get pierre a babysitter?

  • Gotta admit, Amanda and Brian do it better.

  • Good god, I annoyed the crap out of people with this video. Especially Chicken Soup With Rice.

So much nostalgia. Thanks for reminding us all of our childhoods.

  • those were the days, whats up with the video machinegun logo at the end?

  • The last time I heard this song I was in the first grade (1978). I thought what a horrible little boy that he did not care that the lion ate him. I did not remember how the end of the song turned out. Now, after 34 years I know lol. thank you you tube I can now sleep much better tonight! Also this song is in iTunes. lol

  • I thought I had heard all of Carole King's work. What a pleasant surprise! Thanks for posting.

  • I wonder how many vore fetishes this started

  • Oh this takes me back to fond childhood memories

  • Wow! The memories! Thanks for posting! I've been looking for this song for over 20 years, since I heard it that one time in school and I fell in love with it :)

  • I didn't know other people knew about this.. My mother use to sing this to me when I was a little boy

  • When I seen this I think in 1984 I didn`t care. I still don`t care either lol.

  • My son had his 4yr old pic shot with a scorn, on purpose, so we pasted it in the Pierre book. Then our doc looks exactly like the one in Pierre so we brought it to show him but he blew us off with an icy glance.

  • i think this is what i saw many years ago ONLY!!!

  • I turned 40 and my mo used to play this record for me and my brother and sister. Wow!!! I would give one bazillionmilliontrillionkapillon bucks to go back to that time, like 1976-77 and hear this just one time. Thank you for posting this!

  • I remember hating this as a child so much, because sometimes it's better not to care. It's like Will Grayson says; shut up and don't care too much and it'll keep you out of trouble.

  • I try to see this every year on the 4th of july. Its on a dvd called where the wild things are. my bro, cuz and i think its just a part of us

  • Wow....I know there are some people on this page all adult and looking back on this, but I'm a teenager and used to watch this ten years ago...blows my mind, both the music, and how time travels. "Pierre", "Chicken Soup With Rice", and "Alligators All Around" will be with me forever.

  • @TheDustPuppies You have great parents kiddo!

  • Am I the only one who used to get scared from this? The idea of the lion eating him terrified me!!!

  • @iamJenny85 It scared me too. I think it was why we all loved it so. It made us think of not having our parents and we all realized how that was not what we wanted!

  • aw man! this is the song i have to sing for the school musical this year... yeah, im pierre's mom... such a cute song :)

  • THANK YOU for posting this! My husband found it after my long stories about "a little song from school." This always made me incredibly sad, but I am glad to see it again!

  • I am having an "I DONT CARE" kind of day! This song was playing in my head! I thought I'd look it up! I loved loved love Carole King when I was a child! Amazing Artist!

  • pierre

  • elementary school greenveiw elementary really rosie carole king

  • Good morning, darling boy. You are my only joy!

    I DON'T CARE.

    Little punk...

  • "Please don't pour syrup on your hair."

    "I don't care!"

This line runs through my head all the time when I'm having my Pierre days.

  • Epic

  • Favorite childhood song! Err, I mean I DON'T CAARRREEEE!!!

  • ummm mom and dad the bed had wheels on it lol...man how long was Pierre in the lion's stomach??? the parents came home at six and by the time the doctor shook him out it was half past nine...he spent at least the 31/2 hours it took to shake him out digesting at that point he BETTER had came out caring lol

  • -I don't care!

  • I remember feeling really bad for the lion...he didn't really do anything but threaten. Pierre was the one who opened its mouth and climbed in.

  • I think the moral should be don't let a Lion into you house and you'll get along just fine not caring

  • One person, doesn't care

  • Pierre really just didn't give a crap, did he?

  • Woow, first one who think it's crappy:O

  • Watching the dad hit him the lion with a folding chair is lulz.

  • Wow, an amazing piece of treasure found!!

I probably only heard it twice in like my pre-kindergarten/kindergarten years (early '80's), and somehow remembered this tune for 25+ years.

Funny coincidence that as I grew up, I randomly really fell in love with Carole King's voice & singing; and then to find out today that it was actually HER singing this to me when I was a child...

I really love the interweb today!!

  • @tygerk i sooo agree with you! i saw this video 1 or 2 times in elementary school and never forgot about this song.

  • this is so being three years old and driving to daycare with my mom <3

  • I thank God I have the cassette of this, it is beyond words, touching, piercing...it reminds you we were all once innocent and yes didn't care, about all we care about now...
