Great review, I definitely need to see it, I've only seen the two made for tv ones and I'm still baffled that when I was watching them, and that night when I went to sleep I was fine. But over the next week it developed into some kind of paranoid looking behind my back when alone stuff, it took almost 6 weeks for the originals to run their course through my mind. I shit brix, plainly said.
Nice review. I prefer the straight to video Ju On Curse. If you haven't seen it already check it out. I also recommend Nobuo Nakagawa's (director of Jigoku) Ghost Story of Yotsuya (1959). Still the best J horror film I've ever seen, really old and ahead of its time. He's like a Japanese Bava.
Nice review. The eastern approach to horror films tend to be better than the western for the best reason: atmosphere. It's been a long lost element in western horror films which has no sense of mood as they drift away from the likes of Lovecraft, Robert E. Howard and other such authors. Some of my personal favorite Asian horror films would be "Re-Cycle" which still is little disturbing... the only movie other than the Exocrist that I refuse to watch at night.
Hi, this is a great review, I love how you put in all those categories and gave them each a rating. Anyway I have a horror movie review blog, I just recently decided to concentrate only on asian horror since there's plenty of reviewers for everything else out there. I'm currently reviewing the Whispering Corridors series, so maybe check it out. sakurashinra. wordpress. com
the editing is awesome, the scoring fits with the theme...
Ju-on is actually still on top in my list for making me shiver.
I 've always prefer horror movies that scares you in a creepy kinda way.gore ones like guinea pig series are alright, battle royale is okay, grotesque is nice...but depiction of a psycho killer doesn't make me hesitate to go to the toilet at night...
it was a great film, better than the american one.
however does anyone remember the special featurette where they have have the cast/staff/crew telling ghost stories with the only image being a burning match?
I love your attitude while doing the review! The Grudge is my all time favorite Asian Horror movie! ('One Missed Call' might be my 2nd if I ever see the ending... -_-)
Great job! I'd give the Scare Factor a 10/10 for me!
The Gore factor was VERY low for me. Mainly because you HEARD more bones cracking than you SAW them. You know?
this was the second horror movie i have ever watched in my life (first was The Ring) i was 8 years old, scared the shit out of me had nightmares months, like u said the images were burned in to my head and every cornor i took i though i would see toshi,
Bra-fuckin'-va!! Excellent job!! I didn't like the movie, (prefer The Eye) but that was a fan-freakin'-tastic review!! That must have taken forever to edit! I applaud your talent & your patience. I mean, you can't see or hear it, but rest assured I am clapping like I had six hands.
@Lostpilgrim0071 Thank you so much! :) It took about a month to review the film several times, come up with the script, film, edit, and upload. But I was also not completely focused on it. But yes, it did take a significant amount of time. Six hands? Sounds creepy...but cool! Haha. :D Thanks for the awesome comment. I'm working on Ju-On 2 review and it should be up Monday sometime!
Great review! I love the Juon series, but I have to say I prefer the original direct to video film 'Juon: The Curse'. While it is shot on video and as a result we don't get the depth of field, aspect ratio and other goodies associated with a 'cinematic' look, once you get past that, it is a chillingly effective ghost story. I would recommend this over the 'Grudge' series both remake and original Japanese versions (pssst it's on Youtube). Great vid, subbed and look forward to your other vids :)
have you seen the japanese series TALES of TERROR from Tokyo and all over Japan? if you have'nt, theres a four disc box set that has all the episodes. theres a movie based on the series, too.
@urface2nite I don't own the movie (yet!) but the series is great and I do have the four disc box set. I actually went on a spree the other day and watched them all, so a review is in the near future for it. :) Thanks for the comments and suggestions.
@orc145626 I'm reviewing Ju-On 2 now (finishing up the script) and I liked the first Grudge remake, the second wasn't all that great, but I still enjoyed it, and the third one IMHO was silly. :) But, the first Grudge got me into horror and Asian horror so it also has sentimental value for me.
greeeeeeeeeeeeeeeat review! at 10 minutes its easy to get boring but not one minute was wasted here :) Really a professional approach, i am too lazy to put that much effort in! hehehehehe ... You have a really cool sense of humour! Great review! I really liked this movie too! Definitely one of the better Asian Horror films!
@SpannersGerm669 Thank you! That means a lot! These reviews take a lot of time for me to prepare, so unfortunately, the time between is quite long, but I try to make it as in-depth as I can. Thanks for watching! You can bet I'll be watching your channel as well!
@CatStarxo No, not besides the music in the intro and at the end...AH! O_O Scared now. (Though, my washing machine was going, so maybe from far away that's what it sounds like. )
@CatStarxo Actually, my boyfriend pointed this out to me. My camera autofocuses a lot and when it does this, it makes a clicking noise VERY similar to the grudge sound. SO, my mistake, that is most definitely what you are hearing. good ears. lol
Very well done! It looks like you have been doing these reviews for years:) This is the exact film that got me hooked on watching asian horror. The entire Ju-On series is a bit confusing with the same director being involved with the US remakes, actually The Grudge is a remake of the original series simply titled JU-ON directed by Takashi Shimizu....so he's been one of the few directors that I know of to remake a movie twice!.....Anyway,excellent first review, really looking forward to the next.
@munky2ube Yes, Ju-On's a bit of a doozy. Haha. I've yet to see the first two that were made for TV (Ju-On: The Curse and the second one). Thanks for watching, your support means the world! And I'll try to get that review out soon. :)
Awesome production quality. Your review style is also very likable and I enjoyed the in depth but without spoiler review. Great job on your first video!
@thisitimtien Thank you for commenting and watching! And yes, non-spoiler reviews are key; I hate listening to a review when all of the sudden the ending or twist is ruined for me. Thanks again! :)
I know some other asian horrors you might like.
I even know a good japanese horror GAME.
And no, it's not ju on. (even though that one is also pretty good.)
