@WeNeedSomeGolfShoes Just goes to show you're unfamilier with the territories watch...the Tupelo Concession Stand Brawl of 1979...FIFTEEN years before ECW. Watch Randy Savage piledrive Rickey Morton through a table in Memphis back in I think 85...YES through the table.
And these "broken down" indy feds...hahahahahah ECW was not even in their league. It lasted what less than a decade? Territories like Memphis, World Class, and Georgia had 50 year plus histories.
it seems funny to me that Paul E would steal The Gangstas from underneath Cornette while Cornette was already offering them to Paul E in the first place....correct me if i got the story wrong
@jakedge if he steals them it makes for an entertaining story line on ECW cause at that time Smokey Mountain and ECW where on the same TV so that when they did jump from Smokey Mountain to ECW they had instant heat
Jim Cornette seems a little ticked off but he seems all business and a straight shooter....he doesnt seem bitter for no reason...seems like he has legitimate reason to be pissed
It's amazing the level of bad things one must do to produce good entertainment. It's weird how interesting these shoot interviews and "behind the scenes" documentaries can be. I dont ever take sides though, the different perspectives are fascinating, though.
Paul Heyman & Jim Cornette have to 2 greatest wrestling minds in the buisness today. Both are the 2 greatest modern day bookers, guys who are able to create excellent, engaging storylines, have an incredible eye for talent & are able to get the best out of any worker regradless of talent (or lack there of). sadly no promotion will let either man work their genious and book.
Jim Cornette and Paul Heyman are the two only men, who have the experience, the knowledge and the best ideas to save TNA from their bad situation since the arrival of Hogan.
Paul is forever gone because he believes ECW going out was his fault * and it was * Jim Cornette is NOT what we all think he is. Sure he can cut promos and what not but lets look at his era of booking storylines for the WWF/TNA: He created the Shawn/Diana & Bulldog love triangle in 1996 which nobody liked. He made Backlund WIN the WWF title just to lose it to Desiel in a 1995 house show. The dude is at fault for alot of things in wrestling.
@tonshaad1230 those are minuscule points that didnt have any lasting negative impact on anything. in the words of cornette, your full of shit, so fuck off!
And for him to say its best for him to talk shit rather then call Vince or Dixie and ask for a job is beyond me. The guy has talent to get people noticed, but take that away you have some 48 year old man raging about shit that honestly nobody cares about. He rages on PAST issues that has gone down the pipe already and no one is focused on it anymore. The guy needs to get a swift kick in the crotch and learn how to accept things and for once in his life to shut up.
They aren't, they draw around a million viewers on Sinclair's syndicated stations. That's not unknown. I don't think anyone would argue they are where they need to be. They are having trouble drawing in their new markets, need to create some marketable stars and ultimately need to get on cable TV and get a real ppv deal, not the internet stuff. To say they are unknown though, is simply not true anymore.
@TNAROHfan even the average wrestling viewer knows about TNA but I never hear them talking about Ring of Honor. Honestly that promotion is only for internet smarks.
cornette talks alot of shit wen it comes down to it he is nothing but no good peaice of shit who is a wanabe wreslter all he does is talk shit about every1
@ITALIANO87RAFF he talks shit because the business is so full of assholes, if you're talking about a rotten business full of backstabbing dishonest cunts then yeh, you'll end up saying some bad things about some people.. but in that case it's not really talking shit, it's just the truth.
For the record I cant stand Paul Heyman . But I have a question. Cornette claims he was screwed by Heyman paying him off the same night he and Lawler " invaded" ECW. But , he and Lawler filmed a promo some time after that bragging about doing it. I know they didn't film it it before hand because they mention Tommy Dreamers legitimate injury. Why would he take part in an ECW add if things were as he describes here? The promo I speak of is on youtube if you search for it.
@rstryker27 cornette didnt ask to be paid that night..instead he wanted heyman to call a truce between him and dennis carluzzo for the incident with shane douglas & the nwa title when he threw the belt down. Heyman went against his word and slapped an envelope in cornette's hand filled with money while he basically was in his limo leaving..heyman never honored his word and didnt apologized to dennis..that promo cornette did might have been done b/f he found out heyman went against his word
I have alot of respect for Jim Cornette, he breathes, eats and sleeps Professional Wrestling, he knows his shit about Wrestling! Hes Awesome... He knowd the deepest, darkest secret behind Wrestling
@McMahonHater there was no choice, Bret was gunna take the WWE title to WCW, he refused to drop the belt, thats a no no in the wrestling biz. Bret Hart is the most selfish man in wrestling
@1pinkman What proof do you have of that? Don't worry, because you don't have any. Bret had no intention of taking the WWF world title to WCW with him, because he has more class then Ric Flair (who did just that with the WCW world title a few years before). Also he offered alternate solutions, uncluding dropping the title to Undertaker, Austin and Foley. So you are wrong.
@McMahonHater I totally agree but in Flairs defense the NWA did try to fuck him out of some money so yea it was messed up but Flairs not a total ass for that
@calikid05 But Vince is. If anything, Vince doing what he did with Flair really started the ball rolling on making the compitition between him and Turner personal.
@1pinkman No brets not 1. He was gonna forfeit the title the next night on raw. 2 He didn't want to drop the title to Shawn Michaels and in Canada because Shawn had always been a dick to him infact he would of dropped it to anyone but him. 3. Vince should of never put the title on him if he was going to leave. 4. Bret never wanted to leave WWF Vince Made him leave/ Fired him. Granted Bret probably should of dropped it but he should of dropped it to someone of his choosing not McMahons.
@calikid05 I will say this, it is Vince's company, so he should have a say in who gets the belt... but considering what Bret was doing he should have been given the option to pick who he was going to drop it to. I am sure Vince could have made who ever it was work in a story line.
@ivenstorm WWE fired him because he stood up to Vince regarding copy rights to some of his own personal footage his early days as a manager. TNA fired him because he told them they were doing things wrong, and they are. ROH would be better off if they kept him, look at how shitty the WWE and TNA products are without him.
@WeNeedSomeGolfShoes You are the idiot. You wanna get on here and troll for a comment that i made 2 months ago.All i was doing was voicing my opinion on ecw.You need to go back to your fucking cave troll.
I love how the losers say ECW sucked because it was all about blood and violence. That could not be further from the truth. AMAZING technical wrestlers and great workers (Benoit/Guererro/Malenko/Saturn/Raven/Douglas/Taz/Candido/RVD/Lynn to name a few) came from ECW (I know they started before ECW but that's where they became known) and proved that company can show anything you want to see. Wanna see death matches? ECW, wanna see wrestling? ECW, wanna hear great promo's? ECW Want REAL fans? ECW
@Ascendency and also when people say and act like ecw'sonly good thing was the hardcore part of it. all of those reasons you put is why ecw was awesome
if anyone says ECW revolutionized wrestling in general is wrong, they obviously had never herd of FMW in japan, the originators of barbedwire matches, exploding cages. etc. ECW took the barbedwire and only 1 tyme used C4 concept, sure compare CZW to ECW and call combat zone "talentless morons". they're going beyond anywhere anyone has ever gone b4, its the nu FMW, its the over raged cuzin of ECW, FMW revolutionized wrestling IN GENERAL, ECW revolutionized AMERICAN WRESTLING, get it right
PPL keep saying ECw was shit it actually had great wrestling I mean flamming tables and shit added extra bang for the buck you cant scientific wrestle all the time...
i respect jim more than cuz he pulls 0 punches & is not a double-talking sob like vkm/paul/bischoff/russo/etc...he says this stuff here...& will do so again later-on...almost verbatim/lil-2-no parasphrasing...which can/will/might be allowed cuz its 55-99 percent the exact same thing(s) he had said b4...CORNETTE 4 VICE PRESIDENT IN EITHER 2012-&/OR PRESIDENT IN 2016...id like 2 see him replace biden...if he steps down...or run 4 the dems when obama serves his 2 terms...& OBAMA WILL SERVE 2...
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
ECW sucked balls.Pro wrestling is a artform.Nothing artistic bout throwing someone thru a flaming table, lol. It was just all out violence.Just glorified backyard violence more or less. But thats my opinion.
i think cornette was/is trying 2 point out that the hardcore he hates is the desperate attempts of czw/bjpw/fmw/xpw/j(uggalo)cw/et al 2 be ecw at its worst...&/or more hardcore than ecw...2 quote the best/worst hardcore episode of wrestling roundtable...what makes ecw at its best such...& makes the others what they r/were...was knowing either the music & not the notes/the notes not the music...or something 2 that effect...hope fully u get the idea...
One thing about Cornette that I hate is how he uses excessive profanities, which makes him sound uneducated, so he comes off as somewhat unprofessional.
Jim Cornette is amazing because he's 100% real - he speaks well, quickly and spontaneously and he's funny. He's an atheist oasis of sense in a sea of wrestling idiocy.
@Pepotamo1985 He is great, I also sometimes use curse words a lot when I am thinking about what to say while talking. and I totally agree, he is hilarious
CZW likens itself as a new version of ECW. While they have seriously upped the violence, theyve failed MISERABLY in incorporating any actual WRESTLING into their product. ECW was innovative for its time due to the successful MINGLING of violence with real hard hitting wrestling action. You would see plenty of weapons being used and sick spots, but on the same card youd get 5 star WRESTLING matches from guys like Benoit, Malenko, Guerrero, Scorpio and the Mexican stars. CZW just sucks.
@DeidaraXL There are always exceptions to the rule. My point was CZW making the (INSINUATED) claim that they are the heir apparent to ECW. Where ECW had some BRUTAL matches, they were being done by PROFESSIONALLY TRAINED WRESTLERS. Not by Jackass rejects playing wrestler. Love to Necro Butcher but take away the weapons and have him WRESTLE...he could not do it.
@CottonMouthWolf Agreed. I downloaded a few CZW shows recently, and couldn't believe how terrible it was. The shows looked like there were being held in a vacant lot behind an empty warehouse with about 60 people in the crowd. Hardcore is one thing, but CZW is just ridiculous. I wonder where they get all those light tubes though. I think in one show I watched them break about 400 of them. Very lame.
@CottonMouthWolf CZW sucks because CZW sucks. The only similarity it has to professional wrestling is the ring and sometimes not even that. The guys can't work (they get cheap pops based on unnecessarily dangerous spots), can't wrestle, can't go hard for more then 4 seconds (most of them aren't athletic even in the slightest) and its production succeeds so well at trying to be shitty that it actually looks like the kind of crap no one should watch. Honestly, the comparison to ECW makes no sense
Yeah, you had blood, weapons and informal all-around production in ECW and, yeah, the story lines seemed edgier but the reality was that ECW was a contemporary take on the same wrestling stories that have been told for a hundred years in every promotion with the same goal of working the crowd. It placed an emphasis on themes and motifs that were already inherent in the carnival act of pro-wrestling and was an Extreme wrestling show but not an extreme violence show.
@CottonMouthWolf you OBVIOUSLY haven't watched a full CZW show here lately. Some shows don't even have one deathmatch. Most shows have 7 regular matches and 1 or 2 deathmatches.
@CottonMouthWolf Ok, sorry, but...have u seen CZW recently? They seriously changed their product and for the better. Sure they still have crazy violent deathmatches, but look at the rest of the roster. thier jr weight division is phonominaly talented, putting on better matches than the x division, and a great diverse tag team division which is almost made up completly of "pure" wrestlers. I admit they may have been just backyard hardcore before, but if you watch CZW now, u wil see the change
@CottonMouthWolf XPW was a poormans ECW. CZW must be the pennyless mans ECW. I hear they actually have a guy who plays a homeless guy begs for money for their budget Lol.
@Cyantist2 i agree i have some old xpw ppvs 2002 hostille takeover and 2002 retribution. I thought it was average i like shane douglas as xpw champion vs terry funk and all hardcore matches.
@AceDagger1 They make comparisons because each company has taken one aspect of ECW and "carried on the torch" so to speak. RoH has kept up with the more hard hitting WRESTLING that ECW championed while CZW has chosen to go with more gimmicky weapons based matches. In my opinion, CZW is nothing more than a backyard group that caters to the niche that likes seeing morons nearly kill each other. They just happen to have a bit more financing than most backyard outfits.
i wonder that...since jim & tommy fiero (the host/narrator of these commentaries) work 2gether on these things...& r seemingly friends/friendly w/ 1 another...if ROH/Silkin & Pearce allow jim appear 4 tommy f's ISPW promotion in NJ at times?!?!?...
@BigTroubles Thats right i agree its only so much blood u can spil, it got very redundent by 1999 it hit its peak, i know they had great wrestlers with who put on great wrestling but the overall product was the blood, foregin objects & deathdefying spots & bumps, They have good thing here & there but the overall was repeatitive & the product got stale once WWE started coping but they had a bigger budget but ECW was nothing but a breeding ground for WWE like the FCW is..
Vince McMahon expose the wrestling business to the mainstream, WCW was responsible for running the traditional wrestling fans off & ECW was responsible for swtiching the boys in the back with the fans cause now the marks are in the locker room & the smarts are in the audience- Jim Cornette, That is the truth i know internet had an hand in it but t could have been prevented oh we cant forget the WCW Disney Tapping Scandal.
@yanmon Well if that happened more power to him i was commeting on him what he said about the wrestling business & how it has falling on its ass not if Paul Heyman paid him or not thats irrelavent to me I just like what he said about the state of pro wrestling & who the actions of Vince McMahon, Paul Heyman & WCW had long term effect down the line..
im truly saying that maybe if u put cornette-&-morrison 2gether...u can get jim 2 help w/ johns few faults on the mic...maybe itll help "the shaman" become a better promo-man in the long-run...maybe/maybe-not...
@WeNeedSomeGolfShoes: While Heyman was a great booker, he was notrious for screwing other wrestlers/bookers/wrestling companies. Jerry Lawler said he broke his jaw because he backed out of a match two hours before a match, hurting the finish to the main-event. Then he helped maneuver Eddie Gilbert out of ECW so he could put himself as lead booker. I wont even mention the whole paying wrestlers issue.
i agree with cornette, the whole hardcore thing was 2 over the top it's 1 thing 2 have a unique match from time 2 time or the use of an occasional chair or foreign object but to build an entire show of just doesn't work and takes away the integrity of the business. i never liked the whole hardcore champ thing the wwe had it was funny at 1st but should have never went beyond a temporary joke
probably a better "promo man" than ANY tna/wwe "superstar" i can think-of w/in the last few years...except 4 maybe hbk/'taker/hhh/morrison/vkm!!!...could u imagine vince-&-steph FINALLY growin' a brain (-&/or-2) & bringing cornette back as morrison's manager/adviser?!?!?...that-my friends-would/should/could be PROMO MULTI-PLATINUM!!!!!...
@jerzeefranky3475 Since when have HBK or Taker or HHH or John Morrison been great promo men????????????? Yeah, I guess Morrison's heel stuff was fairly decent (by WWE's low standards) but his babyface stuff??? Two words: MR ZIGGLES!
Yeah Vince is very good, but the other guys? Not worthy of holding Cornette's microphone stand.
@Dud512 I guess that's down to personal taste. I find Taker's deadman promos way too unrealistic for my liking. I prefer promos with a spontaneous feel like Cornette, Heyman, Buh-Buh Ray Dudley, Raven and Chris Jericho (WCW version!!!)
@WeNeedSomeGolfShoes Since I realize it's a man's world I kinda of want to use that to my advantage and use men since they have all the power I'd have to borrow it from them anyway.
@princesstamika Don't give up on your dreams! You can help revolutionize and change the industry with attitude like that. Honestly, I know somebody else already said it, but places like SHIMMER and other indy feds have been putting women over for their wrestling talent, not their looks or sexuality. Look at Japan, too, to girls over there get over just as much, if not more, at times, than the men, and they wrestle just as hard, physically intense matches, too.
@WeNeedSomeGolfShoes Wow. You don't like Sherri. She was the original Queen Bitch and was a woman who actually understood the business- if she were a man she'd have become a legend because she'd be able to really use her talent. I found Beaulah and Francine boring, especially Beaulah- the real Queen of Extreme has done exploding barbedwire matches. Being a jump off point does not make you Queen. They talked about being skanks and sucking dick and recited lines poorly. nothing special there.
@WeNeedSomeGolfShoes I definitely understand that it's a man's world but that's what I hate about ECW. Good wrestling but totally on board with the rest of the world. As someone who really follows wrestling I've considered giving up my hobby and my dream because I will never be able to be anything and will never achieve any success. But I know there are places in wrestling for women like me who respect themselves and their abilities to be more than cum stain. They ruin it for us all.
@WeNeedSomeGolfShoes The booking could be good but most of the time it was "extreme" shock value. Sluts! Whores! Fake-ass lesbians! Strippers! Hookers! Other trash.. ..yeah, shock value.
@WeNeedSomeGolfShoes Don't get me wrong, I love original ECW and most of the pre TNN era promos are my lullaby. BUT when it came to women, they were just (presented as) sluts/skanks there for a bang and they needed to be punished brutally to a big face pop. The only I problem i have is this: all of them were just blank slates and never got kayfabe "revenge" just used for "we love sluts but want to punish them" heat. Shocking trashy shit for the sake of "extreme" shit is ECW's hallmark.
@stubby42642 I've heard that he's motherfuckin crazy. I think it was Jericho or someone who described him in print as having the kind of crazed look in his eye when getting up in people's faces. I kinda believe it. Simply disagreeing with someone doesn't get you fired so many times.
@WeNeedSomeGolfShoes ECW had a relationship with the WWF. It's not an apt comparison at all. ECW was also all about tits and shock value vs actual wrestling which got worse after Raven and Cactus left.
@princesstamika Thats far from the truth. ECW had great wrestling. In fact, Raven, has great as he was verbally, really didn't have many standout matches as champ. 98-01 had great matches like the RVD/Jerry Lynn classic at Living Dangerously 98, the Super Crazy/Little Guido/Tajiri series, the Masato Tanaka/Mike Awesome feud and the RVD/Sabu vs Hayabusa/Hakushi match. ECW is different from crap feds like CZW because it mixed hot angles with solid in ring product.
Bro Japan was the mecca for alot of hardcore wrestlers in the 60's all the way through the early 90's, hell the Muta scale is named after The Great Muta!
I too, believe that Jim Cornette is jealous of Paul Heyman, and for that matter, everything else that you have said. Heres my "analysis" of Cornettes opinions: He hates Russo for making the business a joke (just like 99.9999999% of the wrestling community believe), envious of Heyman for REVIVING the art of the brawl (anyone who thought Heyman was a pioneer needs to watch some late 70s NWA). Don't really know what Cornette thinks of Bischoff tho.
I really hate saying this, but the only true significant leader in Wrestling in the Attitude era, who has dicked over the LEAST wrestlers, was Vince McMahon. The things he did were, IMO, the least dishonest between Heyman and Bischoff/Hogan/Nash/the entire nWo at the time.
I only know that Russo and McMahon collaborated on the Austin-McMahon feud which lasted from 1997-1999, which were pretty much WWE's most aggressive years. Russo only stayed on until late 1998 I believe. The rest, as they say, is history. I was just interpreting what Cornette said. I'm a Cornette fan AND a Heyman fan. I even like Russo and Bischoff, as long as they are both restrained.
exactly and what has jim cornette ever really done in the wrestling world that was so groundbreaking or innovative? Heyman actually made a huge impact on the American wrestling scene
@sauron9990 Cornette was upset cuz he wanted Heyman to apologize publicly for the Double-Cross of 1994 and Heyman didn't, instead he thought he could get in Cornette's good graces by doing a whole bunch of stuff for him, hoping Cornette would forget about the public apology.
"Hardcore" has been a part of the business since the beginning. Look at the original Sheik, Abdullah the Butcher, Bruiser Brody etc. Lots and lots of blood there, even more so than today.
@NETRIPZ All those guys had one thing in common, they were all heels. Heels can do that sort of thing, but the faces are supposed to pull of the win with no, or at least minimal, breaking of the rules.
@WeNeedSomeGolfShoes ECW was inpsired by wrestling in Florida. Not Japan. Kevin Sullivan, the Sheik, Jake Roberts, Dusty Rhodes, those guys were putting each other through tables and bleeding like stuck pigs before ECW came along.
i'd prefer Orton over Cena anyway. In my opinion he's got the overall package that most WWE guys are missing right now. And if nothing else he puts a few new guys over. Cheers for the DDP mention, he's on my list of guys to check out.
I like it personally, Ortons a wee bit stockier then DDP. Nobody else was doing it at the time. Each to their own I spose. Did DDP ever do it off the top rope?
I like Cornette and Paul E. Either one could turn TNA around as booker. Dixie could of saved allot of money, and turned TNA around with the talent she has by hiring either one of them.
@Murphdogg4 problem is, they aren't as recognizable as Hogan, therefore you would have gotten good booking and utilization of talent, but not much more exposure than pre-Hogan. Its a tradeoff of sorts, but I do agree that Cornette and Heyman are much better bookers. You also gotta factor in Russo, who neither Cornette nor Heyman want to even be in the same room with. Only one guy knows how to mesh with Russo actually, and that is McMahon, sad as it is.
@Murphdogg4 Youre right, but I think she'd be better off with Corny, because he's a man of his word, he's proven it time and again, just as Paul E. hasnt time and again.
now i accept that Paul E stole most of his ideas from Japan but frankly nobody in America produced a product like ECW's in its heyday and it was all Heyman's genius
Jim cornette is your typical example of a guy who never really accomplished jack shit and rode other peoples coattails and then talks shit about them when they're not around to defend themselves. I honestly would not be surprised if in real life cornette is the pathalogical liar who couldnt manage a company, not Paul. Paul E Heyman came up with pretty much every great idea that wrestling had in America in the late 90's and guys like biscoff and russo and this fat mark stole his ideas
Am I right in noticing that jim said here that ECW went out of business because it had hardcore wrestling? that couldn't be further from the truth! The business side of ECW was slightly mismanaged, but ECW was ripped off left, right & centre -that's why ECW went under. People loved the hardcore aspect of ECW which is part of the reason why they had an enormous following.
ECW was the shit... they actually had real wrestling with the hardcore element. CZW on the other hand is just a bunch of talentless morons that cant wrestle who just brutalize each other with weapons the whole time BIG DIFFERENCE!!!!!
True That Brother czw truly does suck ASS! Sum 1 here actually dwbated with me on ho czw was good & I was wrong but anybody who thinks that shit is the "Shit" is FUCKING RETARDED!
@andycf87 Have you ever seen a full CZW show? only 1/4 of the product is ultraviolent. Do some research before you run your mouth....Warch jody fleisch vs johnny storm at Best of the best 2.
@ShinobuReviews .... i have seen the CZW highfliers before and as impressive as they are frankly there are alot of guys who can do what they do and they do it better. Look at the athleticism of AJ Styles, he can do any move those guys do but he is a much better wrestler because most of his moves require a lot less noticeable help from the other wrestler. these guys as fast as they are are just sitting there waiting 2 take bumps and i have a hard time suspending my disbelief watching them wrestle
@andycf87 I agree, at least ECw had boundries CZw man some of that shit those retards do r fuckin stupid. i cant watch some of the shit they do its fuckin hard to watch
@tonshaad1230 ... wrong wrong wrong wrong wrong wrong wrong... CZW is the fecal matter left over from Paul Heyman's biggest dump he's ever taken in his life. ECW was the fuckin shit. If you think ECW is anything like CZW you clearly havent actually watched ECW. ECW actually featured really good wrestlers like Jericho (Heyman found him in Japan) Benoit, Sabu, RVD, Rhino, Jerry Lynn, Mike Awesome, Bigalow etc.... Who are the great wrestlers from CZW??? Necro Faggot????
@tonshaad1230 ... And futhermore Paul E and the ECW revolutionized pro wrestling in America by featuring Japanese style technical and hardcore wrestling and combined it with the mexican lucha libre style. ECW was showcasing what put WCW and then WWF over before they both did it, the difference was ECW had less money than the competition. If Paul E had Mcmahon's or Bischoff's budget the ECW would have won the wrestling ratings wars in America oh its real, its really fuckin real...
i agree with cornettes contention in that article that too much hardcore wrestling gets old hat. the fact remains tho that if a promotion doesnt include at least some aspects of the hardcore style in their wrestling shows they are going 2 miss a huge demographic (despite what cornette says). look at how boring wwe got from 2002 till very recent. they only had hardcore style matches at ppv's and even most of them werent that "hardcore" i am all about moderating the hardcoreness tho
Pretty much every type of pro wrestling leads to some kind of addiction. Look at how many wrestlers in the 80s & 90s from the wwe & wcw were on amphetamines, steroids & sometimes cocaine -just to keep up with the brutal schedule. You'd have to be a real mark to think that pro wrestling is free of abusive substances!
But in all fairness, if you watch czw and old ecw tapes and I watch roh and old sw tapes, as long as neither of us watch wwe, the whole wrestling world wins.
Furtthermore, as you put it, you are EIGHT TIMES more likely to die before the age of forty as a pro wrestler than any other professional athlete, according to AC, and that's the old school guys wrestling the old school style. Responsible promoters, and let's face it, in the smart generation, responsible fans, shouldn't be supporting wrestlers who wrestle the hardcore style every night. It's a gaurenteed deathwish.
"I know you're full of shit and you know that I know you're full of shit, don't bullshit me." Lol.

One difference between the two is that Cornette is actually still in the business. They both know the business better than Russo or Bischoff.

He rages on PAST issues that has gone down the pipe already and no one is focused on it anymore. The guy needs to get a swift kick in the crotch and learn how to accept things and for once in his life to shut up.
tonshaad1230 1 year ago
@Napstaerhead if that's the case, why is Ring of Honor still unknown?
joemj413 1 month ago
@joemj413

@McMahonHater there was no choice, Bret was gunna take the WWE title to WCW, he refused to drop the belt, thats a no no in the wrestling biz. Bret Hart is the most selfish man in wrestling
1pinkman 1 year ago
@1pinkman What proof do you have of that? Don't worry, because you don't have any. Bret had no intention of taking the WWF world title to WCW with him, because he has more class then Ric Flair (who did just that with the WCW world title a few years before). Also he offered alternate solutions, uncluding dropping the title to Undertaker, Austin and Foley. So you are wrong.
McMahonHater 1 year ago
@McMahonHater I totally agree but in Flairs defense the NWA did try to fuck him out of some money so yea it was messed up but Flairs not a total ass for that
calikid05 1 year ago
@calikid05 But Vince is. If anything, Vince doing what he did with Flair really started the ball rolling on making the compitition between him and Turner personal.
McMahonHater 1 year ago
@1pinkman No brets not 1. He was gonna forfeit the title the next night on raw. 2 He didn't want to drop the title to Shawn Michaels and in Canada because Shawn had always been a dick to him infact he would of dropped it to anyone but him. 3. Vince should of never put the title on him if he was going to leave. 4. Bret never wanted to leave WWF Vince Made him leave/ Fired him. Granted Bret probably should of dropped it but he should of dropped it to someone of his choosing not McMahons.
calikid05 1 year ago
@calikid05 I will say this, it is Vince's company, so he should have a say in who gets the belt... but considering what Bret was doing he should have been given the option to pick who he was going to drop it to. I am sure Vince could have made who ever it was work in a story line.

DeidaraXL 1 year ago 2

Very lame.

RIPdixiecarter 1 year ago
@CottonMouthWolf CZW sucks because CZW sucks. The only similarity it has to professional wrestling is the ring and sometimes not even that. The guys can't work (they get cheap pops based on unnecessarily dangerous spots), can't wrestle, can't go hard for more then 4 seconds (most of them aren't athletic even in the slightest) and its production succeeds so well at trying to be shitty that it actually looks like the kind of crap no one should watch. Honestly, the comparison to ECW makes no sense
Kkuusshhh 1 year ago
Yeah, you had blood, weapons and informal all-around production in ECW and, yeah, the story lines seemed edgier but the reality was that ECW was a contemporary take on the same wrestling stories that have been told for a hundred years in every promotion with the same goal of working the crowd. It placed an emphasis on themes and motifs that were already inherent in the carnival act of pro-wrestling and was an Extreme wrestling show but not an extreme violence show.
Kkuusshhh 1 year ago
@CottonMouthWolf you OBVIOUSLY haven't watched a full CZW show here lately. Some shows don't even have one deathmatch. Most shows have 7 regular matches and 1 or 2 deathmatches.

AceDagger1 7 months ago 4
@AceDagger1 They make comparisons because each company has taken one aspect of ECW and "carried on the torch" so to speak. RoH has kept up with the more hard hitting WRESTLING that ECW championed while CZW has chosen to go with more gimmicky weapons based matches. In my opinion, CZW is nothing more than a backyard group that caters to the niche that likes seeing morons nearly kill each other. They just happen to have a bit more financing than most backyard outfits.

ChaostheClown 1 year ago
@WeNeedSomeGolfShoes Wow. You don't like Sherri. She was the original Queen Bitch and was a woman who actually understood the business- if she were a man she'd have become a legend because she'd be able to really use her talent. I found Beaulah and Francine boring, especially Beaulah- the real Queen of Extreme has done exploding barbedwire matches. Being a jump off point does not make you Queen. They talked about being skanks and sucking dick and recited lines poorly. nothing special there.
princesstamika 1 year ago
@WeNeedSomeGolfShoes I definitely understand that it's a man's world but that's what I hate about ECW. Good wrestling but totally on board with the rest of the world. As someone who really follows wrestling I've considered giving up my hobby and my dream because I will never be able to be anything and will never achieve any success. But I know there are places in wrestling for women like me who respect themselves and their abilities to be more than cum stain. They ruin it for us all.
princesstamika 1 year ago

@WeNeedSomeGolfShoes ECW had a relationship with the WWF. It's not an apt comparison at all. ECW was also all about tits and shock value vs actual wrestling which got worse after Raven and Cactus left.
princesstamika 1 year ago
@princesstamika Thats far from the truth. ECW had great wrestling. In fact, Raven, has great as he was verbally, really didn't have many standout matches as champ. 98-01 had great matches like the RVD/Jerry Lynn classic at Living Dangerously 98, the Super Crazy/Little Guido/Tajiri series, the Masato Tanaka/Mike Awesome feud and the RVD/Sabu vs Hayabusa/Hakushi match. ECW is different from crap feds like CZW because it mixed hot angles with solid in ring product.

Collegejew629 2 years ago 3
I really hate saying this, but the only true significant leader in Wrestling in the Attitude era, who has dicked over the LEAST wrestlers, was Vince McMahon. The things he did were, IMO, the least dishonest between Heyman and Bischoff/Hogan/Nash/the entire nWo at the time.
Collegejew629 2 years ago
I only know that Russo and McMahon collaborated on the Austin-McMahon feud which lasted from 1997-1999, which were pretty much WWE's most aggressive years. Russo only stayed on until late 1998 I believe. The rest, as they say, is history. I was just interpreting what Cornette said. I'm a Cornette fan AND a Heyman fan. I even like Russo and Bischoff, as long as they are both restrained.

Only one guy knows how to mesh with Russo actually, and that is McMahon, sad as it is.

now i accept that Paul E stole most of his ideas from Japan but frankly nobody in America produced a product like ECW's in its heyday and it was all Heyman's genius
andycf87 2 years ago
Jim cornette is your typical example of a guy who never really accomplished jack shit and rode other peoples coattails and then talks shit about them when they're not around to defend themselves. I honestly would not be surprised if in real life cornette is the pathalogical liar who couldnt manage a company, not Paul. Paul E Heyman came up with pretty much every great idea that wrestling had in America in the late 90's and guys like biscoff and russo and this fat mark stole his ideas

@andycf87 WOW someone's a Heyman fan Florida and Japan were doing the things ECW did way before ECW

a HUGE part of ecw's/paul e.'s "legacy":"marks" in the locker room..."smarts" in the stands!!!!!...right-on there,mr.cornette!!!...

CZW on the other hand is just a bunch of talentless morons that cant wrestle who just brutalize each other with weapons the whole time BIG DIFFERENCE!!!!!
andycf87 2 years ago 22
True That Brother czw truly does suck ASS! Sum 1 here actually dwbated with me on ho czw was good & I was wrong but anybody who thinks that shit is the "Shit" is FUCKING RETARDED!
MeThinks995 2 years ago
@andycf87 Have you ever seen a full CZW show? only 1/4 of the product is ultraviolent. Do some research before you run your mouth....Warch jody fleisch vs johnny storm at Best of the best 2.
ShinobuReviews 1 year ago
@ShinobuReviews .... i have seen the CZW highfliers before and as impressive as they are frankly there are alot of guys who can do what they do and they do it better. Look at the athleticism of AJ Styles, he can do any move those guys do but he is a much better wrestler because most of his moves require a lot less noticeable help from the other wrestler. these guys as fast as they are are just sitting there waiting 2 take bumps and i have a hard time suspending my disbelief watching them wrestle
andycf87 1 year ago
@andycf87 I agree, at least ECw had boundries CZw man some of that shit those retards do r fuckin stupid. i cant watch some of the shit they do its fuckin hard to watch

@andycf87
CZW is ECW of today = Talentless morons that can't wredtle, who just brutalize each other with weapons the whole time.
tonshaad1230 1 year ago
Necro Faggot????
andycf87 1 year ago
@tonshaad1230 ... And futhermore Paul E and the ECW revolutionized pro wrestling in America by featuring Japanese style technical and hardcore wrestling and combined it with the mexican lucha libre style. ECW was showcasing what put WCW and then WWF over before they both did it, the difference was ECW had less money than the competition. If Paul E had Mcmahon's or Bischoff's budget the ECW would have won the wrestling ratings wars in America oh its real, its really fuckin real...

hardcore wrestling lead to addiction to painkillers
Coldstonechampion 2 years ago
i agree with cornettes contention in that article that too much hardcore wrestling gets old hat. the fact remains tho that if a promotion doesnt include at least some aspects of the hardcore style in their wrestling shows they are going 2 miss a huge demographic (despite what cornette says). look at how boring wwe got from 2002 till very recent. they only had hardcore style matches at ppv's and even most of them werent that "hardcore" i am all about moderating the hardcoreness tho
andycf87 2 years ago 5
@Coldstonechampion
BacchusAdoneus 2 years ago
@Coldstonechampion how will hardcore wrestling lead 2 pain killers? i thought working for vince will
Dud512 1 year ago
@Dud512 getting hit by weapons and being put through tables lead to that

That's an isnorant statement, considering the drug addiction being cause and affect to wear and tear in the ring.
bassplays 2 years ago
But in all fairness, if you watch czw and old ecw tapes and I watch roh and old sw tapes, as long as neither of us watch wwe, the whole wrestling world wins.
bassplays 2 years ago
Furtthermore, as you put it, you are EIGHT TIMES more likely to die before the age of forty as a pro wrestler than any other professional athlete, according to AC, and that's the old school guys wrestling the old school style. Responsible promoters, and let's face it, in the smart generation, responsible fans, shouldn't be supporting wrestlers who wrestle the hardcore style every night. It's a gaurenteed deathwish.
