Some people feel that Bill's music over the years has been somewhat commercial.
With this song, arrangement and delivery, Bill proves that he can do hard driving, traditional country music as well as anyone. Thank you Bill Anderson!
I've been listening to Bill since I came in to this world in 1967. I have got a lot to thank my mother for and one of the things is an appreciation of classic country. This is one of my all time favourites along with 5 little fingers. Great posting
My dad covered this song and in the 80s named his band "bright lights." I never really appreciated it until listening to it now ... accept I liked my dad's cover better. I bit more rockin' if I remember. it's a bias, i suppose.
Actually, this is from a movie called "Las Vegas Hillbillies" staring Ferlin Huskey. Connie Smith was also in the movie singing "Nobody but a Fool" with the Po' Boys backing her. Jimmy Gateley was my dad. This was Bill's first band configuration. Weldon Myrick on steel, Snuffy Miller on drums and Jim Lance on Electric Guitar. Probably 1964 or 65
Saw your dad many times when he was part of Bill's band. He was an incredible singer in his own right and Bill has told me many times that Jimmy was a big, big part of his success.I have the albums that were done by the Po Boys Band and still play them quite often.
That is VERY cool. And how cool to see Jimmy Gately on fiddle and vocals. Jimmy was the co-writer of Bright Lights & Country Music. Give us more!!! MORE I SAY!!
Thanks for uploading this. I believe that this is from Bill Anderson's TV show back in 1966. If so, this is the first time I've seen a clip from this show. Do you have any more clips of Bill Anderson? Classic stuff here.
No. Actually it's not from the Bill Anderson TV show. That is clearly shot on film which is from old movies they used to make back then like "Nashville goes to New York" or something like that one of them was called. I'm not sure which this is from. Bill's show was shot much later in Charlotte to Video tape as were most TV shows.
did dolly pardon ever sing this song?

I love this song by Bill, but I was searching for anything by Jimmy Gately. I used to love to hear him sing.
