When Israel shot a rocket into a car because a terrorist was in it, many Gazans were severely hurt by the shrapnel. Israel also uses Palestinians as human shields, to protect their vehicles, tanks and to run with them through the towns; first a palestinian then the soldier to keep the soldier from getting shot.
Like america however, Israel is quite restrained and does at least try (at times) to abide by laws. Hamas is not the same, they are terrorists hell bent on destroying Israel.
