Superman could easily have just frozen the fire with his breath without getting the frozen lake water.  To prevent the fire from spreading he could just freeze the surrounding area first , and move inward.

I remember when I saw this movie a few times when I was very young, I thought Jimmy sprained his leg and someone else told me that he broke his leg which got me confused and scared since I told the person that his leg didn't come off his body if he broke it. So the person told me that breaking a body part means the bones in that body part broke which got me a little relaxed and understood better.

To me, I thought that it looked strange that Jimmy broke his leg since it looks like he landed on a pile of soft dirt.

Can't beleive it took Superman exactly 20 seconds to travel 5 miles. Thats 4 secs per 1 mile. That is fast!

@p3rs0nan0ngrata Okay, let's examine that theory.  Use of breath = high winds. High winds causes fire to spread, which would make the situation even worse. :(
