Ever since I first listened to Barto's Weiss recordings, he has been my favourite lutenist. There may be other more famous names in lute playing, such as Hopkinson Smith, Nigel North, or Konrad Junghänel, but none of them in my eyes (or rather ears) execute the music quite as convincingly, musically as well as technically, as Robert Barto. What a pity he doesn't play the lute works of Bach!

@MicrosoftMozart He has played Bach, he just hasn't recorded it yet. First has to get through the complete Weiss!

@kidneykutter Wikipedia says that Weiß composed around 600 pieces for lute, so I guess we'll have to wait a while before he gets to record Bach! ;-)

@athloen64 Im sure Mr. Barto is reading straight from lute tabulation. u would need to learn how to read lute tabulature and transcribe it yourself.
