@Guitarmazdur it is used then as well, the earliest uses i know of are pantera, dream theater, and morbid angel. I simply call it a gojira pick slide because of their frequent use of the sound
I mean, quite simply this is just a rake across the strings while you are hitting natural harmonics. Not a slide, per se, but I suppose that is close enough.
@FrenchToastSucks1 Hey if you want a heavy tone the most useful piece of info I learned was to "scoop" your mids or to have lower mids. It gives your tone a more articulate low end try the badd a little past 12 o'clock and your treble a little less below 12 o'clock. keep experimenting though and just keep the mid scooping in mind.
Why would you scoop your mids? Scooped mids sound like shit and will be hard to hear in the studio, and almost impossible to hear live. You should actually be cranking the mids almost as much as you can, and rolling back on the treble a little bit, and rolling back on the bass even more.
@Boooby I usually keep my mid knobs between 11 and 2. I can't just scoop them all out because that's just horrid lmaoo. But I yanked those INF's soon after I left that comment and it sounds a lot better now :)
You can also do it by dragging your thumb over the strings as you drag the pick. The benefit of that method is that you don't have to be at the fifth fret.
Just so everyone knows. There are tons of bands that use this technique. Morbid Angel, Tony Danza, ect. But Gojira really coined the usage of it. That's like, their trademark, in a sense.
@peacesellsforall yeah definetely, I just call it a gojira pickslide because they use it in sooo many songs. Morbid angel were probably the first to do it, and Pantera did it as well in "We'll grind that axe for a long time" at 23 seconds in, but gojira use it as if it were actually a note haha
@supershiva11 Aweosme. I had one a couple of years ago. Getting rid was one of the biggest mistakes I made, lol. I'm going to buy a new one asap though! Great Guitar for the price.
@Screamokid2k To some extent yes, the most important thing is the right hand, and the best sound you get out of it is right before your bridge pickup sliding across, gives a huge sweeping range.
I always thought of this technique as "that thing at the very beginning of Dream Theater's 'The Mirror'"

It doesn't have to be on the 5th fret, it can be anywhere on the guitar, but obviously you'll get a different sound :P
