Love the poem - very soothing as I am growing old and notice skin , hair and body changes. But you are whom I go to when I wish to settle down and visit with when I need to hear a pleasant and familiar voice. Peter, you hold a dear place in my heart. Don't forget - many feel the same way too.
Close to my home, there was a mighty old tree. It had a hollow trunk and as a child I used to play in the cavity. Apart from this, it was healthy and vital. Some day the city gardeners thought that it may not be safe any more and started sawing off branches, every year some more. The tree struggled to survive and kept branching, trying to replace the loss. But this year, after 40 years of struggling, it lost the battle and died. Today, I read your poem to the dead trunk and left the paper there.
@wbrenne thank you for that, I guess that the time comes for us all to lose the battle to live and they too were the thoughts that I had when looking at my old tree.
Awwwh, I had a tear in my eye listening to you, one of your best poems and readings from you for a long while. 5 *****
What a lovely thought process you have, and who could do it better than you to put the ensemble together. Made me feel sad and happy all at the same time.
Would have been funny if you had said "she did 75% and I did 40%, ooooh sorry, i had a geriatric moment, i meant 25%" lol.
Beautiful poem, Peter. I'm sure that I've passed rather mundane things like an old trees (although I don't think I've seen one quite like that in some time), but your reflection on it is moving. I enjoy how your videos put me at ease and lead me to moments of introspection. Thanks and looking forward to your next video!
That tree is similar to an old dead hollow tree that was left there by the council about a mile away on a council estate. Unfortunately, about a year ago, some yobs lit a fire inside it and destroyed it.
Peter, I hope u don't mind, but I shared this on my Facebook page. This was touching, and I'm sure my FB friends of a certain age will appreciate, if not relate to, your touching peom. This video is truly a masterpiece, in my opinion.
Taking the opportunity. You and your friend gave words to the tree. Words it wished it could speak. It was a punctuation of a million moments in time. Well done.
I didn't ask to be kept in the loop about this, I wanted to experience it like everyone else. It turned out lovely. I can hear both yours and mom's voices in this, very wonderful. :)
The video indeed turned out wonderful - a really great job! It's such a great analogy (tree / man), and all the things described in the poem are moving images / symbils for the changes in human life. This video got a special place in my gavourites :-)!
I love trees! For some reason, I always end up taking heaps of pictures of trees, no matter where I go :) That was great footage and the poem was absolutely beautiful. Made me very sad though :( thanks so much for sharing!
Hello Peter! That was a lovely video! You have proven that just because something or someone is old does not mean that they no longer have any use. There is still use in both. God bless! :0)
You alway provide us with such wonderful perspectives Peter. Were it not for the marvels of this technology I would never have had the pleasure of knowing you. While we'll never meet in the flesh I feel my life has been enriched by your thoughts and wisdom.
Your beautiful poem is so heartfelt, so moving..... please, could you post the whole poem too ?. So magnificent old tree, still so loved by many, like you :).
"A stricken tree, a living thing, so beautiful, so dignified, so admirable in its potential longevity, is, next to man, perhaps the most touching of wounded objects"!

Great old tree too. I love them as much as young healthy saplings, it will still be there in 100 years as a memorial to your poem.

Dear Peter,
That tree can live again. I'll wager that there are artisians that would love to have a bit of that tree to make art objects.

Fantastic eye for this "piece of art", and wonderful poem to boot! If you look closely, you can see many faces within the bark of this tree.
