  • hey does there have to be a ittle notch or something comin out of the hole so the ash doesnt go everywhere?

  • bic lighter where inveted first

  • How do you make the base board thing? And how do you make the beggening of the hole and notch? Thanks!

  • ever try picking some cotton fibers off your socks to use as tinder also?

  • Great vid. Had success in starting a fire like this for the first time the other night. Was f*ck!ng over the moon........

Took ALOT longer than this though. Cool post and peace out.

  • o.k..but how do you make the baseboard please???

  • i think you just make a hole in it then put a notch on it

  • wow that's a thick basebord but if it works it works

  • Great vid!

  • I thought the mssg was cute and it put a smile on my face but why start the chain thing for a surprise a loved one would do anyway...? lol :)

  • Cool! I bet you have done that many times, your good at it! So without that special kind of wood would that be very difficult, what should I use in Oregon? Just any dry wood? Or a specific kind?

  • the biggest part of it that most people fail at is making the notch in the base wood properly

  • umm, what is cotton wood?? wood made from cotton?? and whr can i get it.

  • You're making it look pretty easy there, Russ. Nice demonstration!

  • The baseboard is cottonwood and the spindle is goldenrod. Many other woods work. Most of the weeds you see off the side off roads work well when dry and used in conjunction with a tree wood of medium hardness. One tip if you are struggling is a little honey on your hands, but not too much. This will allow you to apply more downward pressure while spinning. You could also use sap from a milk weed or any other natural sticky substance. But if you use too much you will rip your hands up.

  • I tried this many times but I failed :( . could you please tell me what type of wood did you use for starting a fire?

  • SO COOL! I'm going to try!

  • very nice. Thanx for describing the type of wood you used. I'd love to see more detail on the fire board...thanx again
