  • linux sucks for gaming, i have a ati 1gb card driver and i cant play like on Windows 7, i have the triple of fps on Windows 7. For me i like Mac OS X and Windows.

Linux is only good for work

  • @theshinigami2011 dude, Linux is for fun, not for work or gaming, its freedom, not only games are the "only" fun :)

  • @theshinigami2011 Wrong. If you become a Linux power user, you will realize that getting the most out of gaming on Linux lies in mastery and using OSs like Arch or Gentoo that can be optimized for better performance.

  • Is it slower than windows? Will i have fps problems or lag spikes if i use it on ubuntu? My PC is not so powerful and i almost have issues on windows, will it be better on ubuntu?

  • @4t0msk1 HAHHAHAHHA, smart guy... New code every 15 sec..

  • @4t0msk1 It take 1-4 seconds to type the code and u have 16 seconds before it changes. And that code will never be generated again for your character.

  • do you use wine for install wow ?

  • @rogeriopazduarte no mate, I just copied World of Warcraft folder from my windows hard drive to ubuntu (under wine folder) and rewrite something at wtf/config

  • @myschak But can you install it within Wine if you don't run a windows computer?

  • could you post your system specs on the details? would help to know what you consider a "good computer". And to see what hardware gets that kinda results

  • @ThreeEyedTeddyBear nothing special, Intel Core 2 Due CPU, 3GHz, 8 GB ram, graphic card is ATI radeon HD 3800

  • is it slower then windows? any lagging issues? i run wow pretty slow already on windows, but thats just my pc, would it be harder on ubuntu? let me know

  • @kramer911 yes mate, it is slowly under ubuntu+wine because there is not full support for directX 3d. But still nicely playable, if you have good computer :O)

  • I've installed wow with wine and it starts and i can log in, but all characters are invisible... Someone help me with this?!

  • @SonOfTheSystem go to the config file in the WTF folder and open it. In the config put a line in there that reads SET gxApi "opengl".

  • @AJParsons100 thanks but i've already done that. i prob need to reinstall it but follow instructions better this time.

  • Theme, and if you would be so kind...where it is located.

  • Good to know the reason I want Ubuntu is good to go wooohoohoohoooo Thanks man.

  • @4t0msk1 nobody can use authenticator code which is generated only for few seconds ...

  • @4t0msk1 authenticator code is random every 15 seconds, so good luck, dude :P

and there is still password. Anyway, zoom out + virtual cube is just part of compiz effects on Ubuntu.

  • I got this running too. Except I can't raise the graphics higher than "Low". I guess it's Open GL? In Windows I can set it to Ultra. My hardware is more than good enough. So because of that, I don't even bother playing in Ubuntu. It would make all of my hardware purchases worthless.

  • @FIimFlamJibberJabber you are right, some of the grafic effects are just low. Fucking Blizzard is so stupid that they write all their games for Direct and not for GL.

  • how many FPS you care?

  • @GAMMEOVER about 30 FPS - 10 man raids are fine but 25 man are pain, 13 fps in ICC

  • Can you let me know how you got it to work, as did fresh install on Ubuntu 10.10 and wine ... launcher goes but not wow.exe.

Do i need to change anything ?

Thanks for any help you can give.

  • @tkircos dont know why but cannot post here link for "how to install WoW on Ubuntu" manual, so just use google and try to search for "world of warcraft ubuntu" There is a lot of manuals for it. Good luck, it is not so hard

  • @tkircos use google mate, "world of warcraft ubuntu" there is a site for installing WoW on Ubuntu, very easy - I m sorry, cannot post links in here

  • @tkircos Open "Install Drivers" and install your Nvidia or ATI drivers. Install PlayOnLinux to install WoW. Then if that doesn't work then Google it

  • @tkircos Also look on winehq.com and also the WoW forums and you'll find good snidbits of details and advice. I couldn't run it for a while only to find now my video card was on the edge of dying and finally kicked the bucket

  • are there any issues? is this under wine? what ur pc's specs

  • @Vlaxiti playing on ATI Radeon HD 3800, 8gb RAM, nothing special, Intel core 2 Duo CPU 3GHz

  • @Vlaxiti yes under wine
