  • This video from Turkey, not greece.

Oil wrestling is oldest Turkish sport organization.

  • @TE067

I agree with all (turks and greeks) to support their traditions. But it is important to know the truth.Wrestling was invented by the Greeks and particularly by Heracles (Olympic games). The wrestlers were putting oil in their bodies and after the end of the fight they removed the mix of oil-sand-sweat using a plate of wood.

  • Have you ever heard about Greek-Roman Wrestling??

By this time Turks where still in Mongolia, how do you think it has anything to do with Turks??!

  • Good Comment Realite58: Chek first the history and culture. This is totally Turkic wrestling and it is a turkish video, the real style of this origin means 'Guresh' from central asia turks. Chek the 'Kirkpinar' Games in Turkey since 1362 and to today non-stop wrestling real Turkic traditional sport.

  • Really, this is a turkish video? Is that why it's in Greek? And you're right, it was practiced in central Asia, not Asia minor, but by the Persians, and then by the Turkic peopl after they caught on.

  • homoerotic ;)

  • Hot!!! Where can I sign up?

  • i want in .

  • this information look very interesting.. do you have any reference / web link about that? I am planning to publish a newer version of this video with more information inside (also with english subtitles).. From where do you know that it come this wrestling from India?

  • thanks for the info..

  • this is turkish traditionel sport this is national sport of the turks

  • As I mentioned before, this sport takes place all the countries in the Balkans.. not only Turkey.

You can find this sport in Bulgaria and also to Greece (ie. Serres region).

In this documentary the oil wrestling is from the Rodope region of Greece (organized by muslim minority -- turks and pomaks of that region).

  • Can you Ottoman empire this was muslim genaration and the wrestling is prophet sports and sunna. Balkan countries were in the middle age of empires ottoman you know. It was region of ottoman oil wrestling is special for turks but today many of balkan region do this sport

  • Ok.. I understand your point of view. Some other people can argue that the roots of this wrestling is from the roman empire etc etc. Some other people may have another opinion as well..

I didn't publish this video for a flame-war between Greek and Turkish youtubers as it happens to many videos in youtube.

But this video is about the tradition of oil wrestling in the region of Rodope as it happens today (I want to publish also a version with subtitles).

  • i havent a problem with greek what do you mean with greek and turkish

  • I mean that I have published this video as a documentary for the oil wrestling in the region of Rodope. Not for starting a flame war between youtube users from Greece and Turkey if this wrestling is Turkish sport or Greek or Bulgarian. I already said that this wrestlings take place in many countries in the balkans.

  • ok brother thanks for your arguments

i have one question to you: Did you doing wrestling too.

  • No.. I don't do such sports.

  • just enjoy the sport guys. Surely, Oil wrestling is Turkish sport, best pehlivans are Turks but it's also practised in Balkan Region. Ggiannop doesn't say the opposite so there is no need to write things like 'oil wrestling is Turkish', everybody know it. In Roman Empire and Antic Greece, wrestlers used to oil down theirselves but this style is developed in 12th century by Turks.

  • this is turkish sport...

    Best regargs,

    ggiannop

  • same as yagliguresh from turkey right?

  • yeah, it's the same with yagli gures. The wrestlers in video are from Turkey and Albania.

  • In the video there are some wrestlers from Turkey, some from Greece and Bulgaria. I don't think that there is a wrestler in that video from Albania.

  • They are not from Turkey. They are Greeks from the muslim minority villages.
