Hey epic, your actually kinda the reason i got into parkour, your videos were the first i saw when i heard about the sport, so i just wanted to say thanks for helping me to get into it, but i tried to start learning the roll, but i never could get it, i tried different videos on the internet but that just confused me more, i even saw your video on it but i couldn't get it, i just wanted to ask that do you need a lot of mussel on your back to do the roll, and also the way you roll and the hands?

Yeah...my ankle is currently suffering from the landing he mentions at 4:45. Wish I'd seen this earlier. I will now be changing my precision technique...
@kinglynx so start with small jumps and work your way up... and drill TECHNIQUE!!! Learn to control it and you'll be fine.... get rid of these doubts you have... stop being so afraid to LIVE.
"Stay on the balls of your feet for strong ankles." -- that, along with doing balancing calf raises can greatly assist for stability.
Balancing calf raise: Low lip -- 3 -5cm. Toes on the lip, heels off, raise up to as tall as possible, then lower slowly all the way down, gripping hard with toes. Variation: Twist torso at top.
Such exercises, along with eversion, have helped me recover from a serious sprain.
Hey epic i've been doing precision for like 2 years now and used to do them wrong like landing on mid feet etc. i've had tendonitis twice and did some strenght training now to regain muscles and stuff. I have the proper technique down and want to train again but even when i just do a normal precision, not even that far i get a feeling on the sides of my knees idk if this is wrong or if im just strenghtening it and do i need to bend down much or a litle when i do a precision?
@unknownmovement As much as I know, the more you bend the more you harm your knees. As for the feeling, I think that better is to stop any practise and do for one month only conditioning, then try again and check any difference. The strongest legs, the less harm at knees. If you're OK, you mustn't feel anything. Good luck with this, find somebody who knows about pk to train with. ;)
@AnKo96X Why is bending it bad??? I bend for cushion... cuz think about it, if you land hard and ur legs are stiff, it sends a shock through your legs, thats a lot of tension on the joints, and such tension is unecessary. By bending the knees, you keep them mobile, and cushion the landing. I'm not lookin for an argument, i just wanna see if there's something I don't know here.
@Epic1 I set it wrong, bending is very important as long as you're doing a squat. At more than 90 degrees, more strain is put at your knees as well and stronger legs are needed to avoid any further harm. Now, at a natural precision, the strain is anyhow minor, but if you can't do a normal landing (say you don't reach precisely where you want) muscles can't work well and knees take more impact.
@AnKo96X ahhh yeah see I definitely agree. Awesome, I totally agree... that 90 degree angle has so much effect... lolz but I totally agree... I try and MEET the landing by SETTING my feet down isntead of punchin the land. =))
@epic1 dude any tips on frontflips or backflips I don't have a trampoline and I'm scared to try on grass I don't no y I always land on stomach for frontflip and on my head for a backflip any tips???
epiccc, if your going for massive precisions does technique really influence it? if so what technichue haha like what do you do with legs and arms,, cheers man x
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
6:02 mins of bullshit why do YOU want to tell sb sth about precisions? your landings are instable bad sloppy ive got no words for it... every video from phil doyle can tell you more about precisions than you ever could.
@stylemonsta dude, ya realise this is fucking kyle 'epic" rite?lmao just like evry other traceur or trickster out there who puts up tutorial video's its to help us improve our skills and teach us something new, of course some vids are better than others but if ya dont like one it doesnt mean yagotta be a dick especially wen he might just be better than ya.hahaha dont hate on epic man, hell just congratulate him for taking the time out to make these vids. XD
Hey epic, just want to say I love your videos they are really informative and quite helpful. Its too bad I didnt find them before I hurt my knee, now I have to wait for it to heal up before I do anything. Anyway, I'm wonder how tall are you? I'm kind of a tall lanky fellow, (6'4" weighing 170) I'm wondering if my height would make this kind of stuff (like flips) harder or impossible to do. (Mostly tricking in general not just precision.)
Are you able to do a detailed tutorial on how to do spins ? i struggle to get past a 180 when trying a front or backflip. its the same when i attempt a btwist as well. but btwist sping alot easier, probably just a subcious fear thing i dunno lol.
exactly you dont learn parkour in a gym(though it helps with flips and such) you learn by going out and trying it. so what? you hurt your shins. boohoo man up grow a pair of balls/ovaries and deal with it. learn from it so you dont make the mistake again. epic your right. posers= wrong.
I'd love to see a video of precision onto rails. I can do them but I'd really like to see your technique in order to improve my own. I usually land on the arch of my feet if it is a long precision onto a rail, please give tell me if I am wrong because I want to improve.
Like I said though, I have mad respect for you so please possibly consider this advice. I don't want people getting hurt because precisions are "easy". Easy to do, hard to master.
@LHSStuntman What's there to master??? It's jumping from one spot to another.... you people are making this a bigger deal than it should be!! IT'S ABOUT HAVING FUN!!!! FUCK FORM, FUCK STRUCTURE, FUCK FIXED POSITIONS!!!
@Epic1 Well if you don't land on the balls of your feet you lose blanace right? Isn't that form? The vid is good! I have the utter most respsect for you and the inspiration your videos bring to everyone! We watch one of your vids then go out and train. Precision jumping boils down to the jumps being more mental rather than being hard physically. IN MY OPINION I think form is important.
Thanks for all of the great advice throughout the years. Jonathan Morris member of RRPK ;)
Yes, it is about having fun but when you make a tutorial on something you should cover every aspect. Previously, you have made videos for trickers. When you make a video for a parkour technique, budding traceurs search for it and typically early traceurs do not have the leg strength trickers do. The is all leading to the fact that a far precision jump loads a large amount of lateral G's on the knee joints which is unsafe without PROPER TECHNIQUE.
Now I realize that you have probably gotten a lot of comments like this which is why I'll excuse the fact that you blew up on someone trying to give advice (which you requested in the vid).
I have nothing but the best intentions and respect for you and the arts of tricking, freerun, and parkour.
One thing that is important, is always giving it your complete attention. Many times I've gone for "easy" precisions, and overestimated myself and landed with my shins on the corner of things. Even if you know you have the skill to make a jump, always focus entirely
@shinobiBUNK I think you may be paying TOO much attention... thinking too much about somethign I've found causes me to doubt myself... so I just gotta believe in my body and know that I CAN DO IT.
@Epic1 Honestly, that is the only way to really trick or do anything with your body, you must first believe before you can achieve. Thinking about it creates fear and fear fucks shit up
@Epic1 I dont think so. Im definatley all for instinct, but too many times Ive just assumed my foot is somewhere it's not, or something along those lines. I dont stand there preparing myself because thats when doubt occurs, but I make sure I have total awareness during moves, while still having fun and being relaxed about it, thats all. I still allow for instinct to take over, but with body awareness, those instincts have a much better outcome.
@JakeNashPK Not right away though... you wanna keep them out and forward while ur in the air... throwing them back in mid air will cause your distance to decrease... that's why most people's arms don't come back until they LAND a precision or if they KNOW they're gonna make it and add style.
@Epic1 1) You need to throw your arms forward at the begining of the jump, this helps you with distance then mid way threw around the point where you bring your legs forward you want to bring your arms back, now im not saying to throw them back coz that would be stupid but you should keep them in the same place so your body moves in front of them. Keeping your arms forward just makes it harder to balance when you land because it means your body will sort of fold in half with your upper body
@Epic1 2) nearly touching your legs but if you bring your arms back then your body will straiten which means you will land more comfortably and have a lot more balance. I dare you to try and find a video where a well know freerunner/tracure doesn't do this
@w00tparkour Saying don't go under 90 degrees is like saying don't drink more than 1 beer cause you'll get drunk. As for one it astronomically varies depending which kind of precision you're doing and in which situation but primarily it depends on the strength of your quads and somewhat calves ( cause those are the muscles that are saving yourself from getting hurt ...in many ways ) . Making that kind of statements is beginner-know-it-all...-ish. And you look like no beginner to me (:
@StrajaParkuracOpaki well I wasnt talking about muscles but more about joins, especially the kneecap its true its beginner knows it all but beginners will think they have to land far below the 90 to find their balance, and they are definitely not strong enough in their quads for the impact. just saying no offence.
@w00tparkour don't get me wrong, I agree with you on that, even though you'd have to consider whether the beginner had a history of knee and(or) ankle injuries,or if (s)he'd professionally practiced some other sport before. But my point is that people shouldn't limit themselves by things they read from wiki and internet overall. The point is to try something and see what your body and senses tell you about it. If they feel better going lower, what you gonna do. It's their call.
@w00tparkour Listen to what he says lol... he's only saying bend your knees to find your balance to start with. not to actually do the jump.. what heshowed was fine.
w00tparkour is right. All the other information was very helpful, but everyone knows you should only bend your knees at a 90 degree angle when jumping off of a ledge, or doing a precision.
love this video!! haha, I'm so not built for this kind of stuff but I always feel like giving it a try after watching you :) I also heart Nissa with her frisbee!! what a cutie!!
why there alsways has to be a plane in tutorials watch juji's tuts. and you will mostlikely hear some :S :( Anyways great explaination on how to do it!

The is all leading to the fact that a far precision jump loads a large amount of lateral G's on the knee joints which is unsafe without PROPER TECHNIQUE.

@LHSStuntman

Even if you know you have the skill to make a jump, always focus entirely
shinobiBUNK 1 year ago
@shinobiBUNK I think you may be paying TOO much attention... thinking too much about somethign I've found causes me to doubt myself... so I just gotta believe in my body and know that I CAN DO IT.
Epic1 1 year ago
@Epic1 Honestly, that is the only way to really trick or do anything with your body, you must first believe before you can achieve. Thinking about it creates fear and fear fucks shit up
TaMichaelB 1 year ago
@Epic1 I dont think so. Im definatley all for instinct, but too many times Ive just assumed my foot is somewhere it's not, or something along those lines. I dont stand there preparing myself because thats when doubt occurs, but I make sure I have total awareness during moves, while still having fun and being relaxed about it, thats all. I still allow for instinct to take over, but with body awareness, those instincts have a much better outcome.

Thanks for this tutorial, I know a little more now how to land, because I kept, as you said, spraining my ankle. Again, thanks.

@JakeNashPK Not right away though... you wanna keep them out and forward while ur in the air... throwing them back in mid air will cause your distance to decrease... that's why most people's arms don't come back until they LAND a precision or if they KNOW they're gonna make it and add style.
Epic1 1 year ago
@Epic1 1) You need to throw your arms forward at the begining of the jump, this helps you with distance then mid way threw around the point where you bring your legs forward you want to bring your arms back, now im not saying to throw them back coz that would be stupid but you should keep them in the same place so your body moves in front of them. Keeping your arms forward just makes it harder to balance when you land because it means your body will sort of fold in half with your upper body
JakeNashPK 1 year ago
@Epic1 2) nearly touching your legs but if you bring your arms back then your body will straiten which means you will land more comfortably and have a lot more balance. I dare you to try and find a video where a well know freerunner/tracure doesn't do this
JakeNashPK 1 year ago
@JakeNashPK I read a bit of it... but all i have to say is FUCK FORM AND FUCK STRUCTURE... FUCK FIXED POSITIONS!!! IT'S ABOUT HAVING FUN.
You forget that?!
Epic1 1 year ago
@Epic1 I know its about having fun, but in the video you say if you have any tips then leave a comment so i did...

@JakeNashPK Ohh... I thought you were criticizing my precision. That's why I took offense.

And you look like no beginner to me (:
cheers
StrajaParkuracOpaki 1 year ago
@StrajaParkuracOpaki well I wasnt talking about muscles but more about joins, especially the kneecap its true its beginner knows it all but beginners will think they have to land far below the 90 to find their balance, and they are definitely not strong enough in their quads for the impact. just saying no offence.
w00tparkour 1 year ago
@w00tparkour don't get me wrong, I agree with you on that, even though you'd have to consider whether the beginner had a history of knee and(or) ankle injuries,or if (s)he'd professionally practiced some other sport before. But my point is that people shouldn't limit themselves by things they read from wiki and internet overall. The point is to try something and see what your body and senses tell you about it. If they feel better going lower, what you gonna do. It's their call.
:)

Yaay it works.thanks 4 the tut. :)

@w00tparkour Listen to what he says lol... he's only saying bend your knees to find your balance to start with. not to actually do the jump.. what heshowed was fine.

Epic1 1 year ago
@Epic1 Then it is going to Epic :D (Thumbs up for easy joke XD)
amBullseye 1 year ago
w00tparkour is right. All the other information was very helpful, but everyone knows you should only bend your knees at a 90 degree angle when jumping off of a ledge, or doing a precision.
thatparkourdude 1 year ago
@thatparkourdude he only says bend your knee's to initially find you balance for beginners.. not to do the jump, so yes epic wasnt wrong.

@thatparkourdude What matters is that its comfortable.
