  • When you play the double gostnotes on the snare, try to play them fully in stead of using a press roll, then you get a much opener sound. But really nice sound and grove.

  • I see you have a lot of Gavin Harrison influence ! And that's good ! You are awesome men ! (:

  • tight up your snare for some grooving and funky sound !

  • amazing

  • dude, just a pinter, when your not doing anything with your left hand, dont let it rest on the snare drum. lift it up! it helps not giving off any extra accidental ghost notes.

  • I see you like Harrison :P

  • Great sounding kit man! Do you know how much higher or lower (in terms of intervals) your snare-side head is compared to the top?

  • Looks like you are having fun! Sounds great.

  • wow! no wonder your kit sounds so good. it's sonor. awesome kit man.

  • how duz the belt drive on the eliminators compare to the chain?

  • nice

  • Whats your opinion on snare wires? Have these 12-strand wires improved your snare sound and how much? And nice playing, of course!

  • NOW THAT'S HOW A KIT SHOULD SOUND-FREAKING WOW. Sounds SO good dude!

  • Hey man, great fills... Just some grooving, just great!

  • Thats a 57 on the kick.... thats gotta be the d6

  • Awesome Mate, really enjoyed that!

  • Great drumming! Oh and the kit sounds sweet!

  • It takes talent to make a kit sound that good... you obviously have the talent. Nice grooves dude. \m/

  • Damn!

  • Wow! i can see you are very influenced by gavin harrison! your set up is so similar to his! i watched him last week, blew my mind away! your kit is verynice sounding! and your playing is immense to! how do you find the belt drive on your eliminator?

    Thanks, Elias

  • good stuff, and a great sounding kit

  • top class

  • i love the grooving bro .. awesome video .. what are some stickings u use here man ? keep it up

  • your snare sounds flawless.

  • I love the snare sound, awesome!

  • does sound pretty nice. got some adverse fills in there, very impressive

  • well somebody must love gavin harrison ;)

  • That's got to be up there with the best drum sounds I've heard, sounds like a fair bit of 'room' ambience in the mix?

  • Very, very nice.....you have your left hand ghosting down really well. which creates a really nice movement and feel.

    Well done.

  • Grooooovy! Love it!

  • Very nice!

  • im considering buying some k 13" hats off ebay, the zildjian sound sample on their website is lacking, can you tell me anything about them?

  • I love your sound, as well your drumming (especially your cover of windowpane). Cheers!

  • awesome grooves man, really like the sound of ur kit. how difficult was it to get the chimes cut? how much did it cost you?

  • thanks! The chimes were indeed a pain to create - lots of struggling with dull tin-snips and then little red-hot bits of bronze flying all over during the part where i used a bench-grinder to round them out. One of them has cracked at the edges, but it's no big deal - i bought a heap of old broken cymbals (Zildjian Ks and As) from a friend for about 100 bucks, so it's really cheap. The time and tools are the only other cost. That, and the hospital visit when you slice your hand :)

  • I've been using a Dremel to do all my cymbal repairs and i find it very easy to work with. The Dremel also allows for easy cutting, rounding and smoothing because of all its attachments.

  • @xCrumblingMirth wish i had a friend to sell me k cymbals for 100 bucks.....

  • great stuff bro I really like that opening groove you played with open hi hat stuff and snare rolls

    :)

  • yur snare drum sounds like those 1980's arena rock ones

  • love the set, mics, and playing. very solid.

exactly what are you doing at about 0:41? i'd love to know that fill. thanks.

  • Hey, man, you're an amazing drummer, and I have a question (sry, I'm new to drumming). I have a 12" china that is very nice, but it doesn't give that really huge, ringing sound that comes out of bigger chinas. It's more of an accent cymbal, like a splash. I can't spend a whole lot of money, so what do you personally think is the smallest size you can go with a Wuhan china, but still get that "big" sound out of it? Like, 18"? 16"?

  • @REDMAX777 You should just get a decent "big" size, such as a 18".

  • Thanks, man. Appreciate it.

  • This kit is legendary man...you have tuned it beyond perfection and you sound amazing.

  • very nice, i personally life to experiment with my a metronome in my headphones, setting strange times to expand my ability.

  • very nice for as long as you've been playing. You're very good.

  • Tell me why you chose Wuhans instead of Zildjians china? are they any better??? really keen to know.

  • well they're pretty cheap, and they have a nice trashy sound, and quick decay :) I'd really love a nice K china at some point, but i really can't justify spending the money on it right now as I've got 3 perfectly working chinas - 20", 16", and 12"

  • you have the nicest sounding drums i have ever heard.

  • You are very harrison oriented, i can see alot of PT fills haha. you should try timing your snare more 1 and 2 instead of always placing your ghost notes around three and four, just to try something new. I also didn't hear one beat the focused on the bass drum, it would be nice to hear that too instead of all ghost notes and fills ya know? Just an oppinion, lemme know what you think dude.

  • thanks man, you're right, i definitely need to alter my snare hits from their usual spots in the bar - I've been working on soloing over the past two months (i had signed up for a competition) and have really made good progress in that regard. Something that's really helped has been playing all sorts of ostinatos on the snare with my left hand, while playing a samba beat with the ol' (x-xxx-xxx-xxx) on the ride

    thanks for the tips man!

  • when you add a vid of the progress, let me know and i'll see if theres anything else i can offer ya, Drummer to drummer dude. hopefully one day you can do the same for me.

  • Wow, you are me in the future. lol, Ive been playing just a little less time than you, My biggest influences are gavin, keith, and antonio, for all of the same reasons, and i use 2 rides like your earlier videos, and an A custom 18". its pretty strange.

Anyways, at 0:43, you play a classic gavin fill that i havent figured out. whats the pattern for that?

  • Kick, and then a flam between R and L and then RRLL.

So the pattern is KRLRRLL, but change the note values for the 2 first strokes to 32d notes.

  • ......... 16-channel mixer like yours and to get 16 channels need two digitizers like the case of the m-audio 2626.

I want to know is whether the "Mackie VLZ3 1604" is a product of highest quality and that is no worse than the previous pro vlz. The sounds I'm looking for are two. The first is basically like you have in "just some grooving", but also serves to make me good studio recordings using Pro Tools and the rest.

Sorry if I do not understand well,

    I hope your kind responses

  • Is there something I said wrong?

    I will explain better again.

    I'm building a recording studio. I need a........

  • .......... and my idea is to buy two m-audio ProFire 2626 to digitize a 24b/192khz, it is possible that true?

if you can help me, you who know much, I just want to make music covers up as you and the great majority of the guys on youtube, and also "studio songs" to music cd's.

thanks for your time my friend and I hope your wise answers.

    FB

  • Let me explain. I love doing covers like you do. But trying to get a professional sound. I love how it sounds in Opeth and groove, and wanted to know if the mixer mackie VLZ3 1604 of 16 channels is considered truly an improvement you have.

    I'm building a recording studio................

  • yo, what's in your ears? earplugs? why do they have cords? headphones?

  • they're Shure SE310 in-ear headphones - I run ProTools on my desktop computer in another room, and remote-control it using the laptop beside me. The headphones are plugged into my interface, so i hear the nice fully mixed drum sounds coming through as i'm playing :)

  • PLease, answer me... i will buy a mixer..

    mackie vlz3 1604 16 ch, is recomended???

the vlz3 can conect in two m-audio firewire 2626???

    please is urgent friend!!!

  • yes, the two pieces of equipment will work together, but it's impossible for me to recommend anything to you, since i dont know what you're trying to do with it :)

  • fuckkkkkkk is amazing, your sound is best that Tomas Lang in yours DVD´s lesson!!!

never was think in record one song how Studio song???

  • everything you just said, makes NO sense.

  • Yeahhhhh, more ganance!!!

    yeah babe

  • omg he looks like me in this video.. i bet u have cut those bells from cracked crashes.. but thy sound soo coollll

  • be yourself : ) we don't need another Gavin Harrison

  • he's just one of MANY brilliant drummers that i draw inspiration from, although at this early stage in my playing it may not be clearly apparent. At any rate, i'll take your comment as a complement :)

  • i'm still amazed at how talented you are in the short amount of time you've been playing

  • awesome man :)

    that kit sounds brilliant.

wondering, if we could find a keyboard player and a singer (I would play guitar and bass) would you be interested in starting an internet Porcupine Tree cover band?

    thanks :)

keep the awesome drumming up! ^_^

  • Awesome as usual Chris.

    Some questions for you.

It looks like you are using a clear head on the 8" tom? Is there any tuning reason for this?

What head are you using on the bass drum?

You also mention a new drum room has made things better, so is this a new rehearsal room?

Finally what mics are you using and are you capturing to your lap top, if so, which software?

    Thanks in advance!

  • thank you!

    - There were a few months where I didn't use the 8" tom on my kit at all, so it got left behind when i replaced all the other ones and went back to Coated Ambassadors :)

    - The kick has a Remo Powerstroke 3 batter side, with a Sonor logo head on the reso (i think it's an Ambassador)

    - I actually moved in December, and have a whole house to myself! It's awesome having a full room dedicated to recording, as i can constantly refine things

    - For equipment info, check the video description

  • Thanks for the quick reply Chris

Out of interest, have you tried the Remo PowerSonic head?

Thanks again, looking forward to the next video.

  • 1. Your drums are amazing! Every single tom veeery well tuned, snare - i want to tune my one that good! It's Greeeat! Base is good but tomas and snare killing! :)

    2. What is this Zildjian Oriental, it looks like cuted.

  • thanks man, the Oriental cymbal at the bottom used to be an 18-inch Oriental China Trash, i cut it myself using some tin snips, down to about 13 inches. It's got an interesting sound, i think.. Kind of a mix between splash and china, with a cool "whaaaa" sound.

  • I asking because i see its cuted and its sounds ok. I have Zildjian K Crash 15" (i think) cuted from 17" and its sounds good too. You can see on my channel in my covers (lame :P Begginer)

  • thanks guys! Once the high-quality version is live, it should be even better :)

  • btw the sound does sound clearer to me. i seem to hear the snare better. and the tones of the toms are coming out better. great work!

  • nice work! very inspiring
