I bought 4 guineas at the market today. I thought they were adorable...but after a couple hours...I was on the phone trading them off for laying hens. lol!! I love them, but My neighbors would hate me if I kept those little guys. :(
We had a pair fly into our yard 8 years ago. My wife tossed a couple slices of white bread out, and they stayed! One was killed, but the other still hangs around. Roosts on the kids playground and screams at us at night to go to bed. Still only eats white bread. How long do they live?
Really? That's funny everyday seven of them are outside our window round about the same time each morning begging for bread and nuts. One of them chases the other, stopping it from trying to feed. It looks so funny! What do you feed them.
The female makes this two syllable call but both the male and female also make a one syllable call that sounds like ach, ach, ach, ach, ach. Hope that helps. Thanks for your comment.farmingfriends
There were two grey and two white, so I assumed they were pairs? Last I saw them was yesterday and they were in a very strange man in the neighborhoods fenced yard. I hope they got out because I'd hate to know what this guy would do with them.
I can imagine the call is very annoying at 5 am. I can hear mine at about 7am so that is not too bad. Thanks for your comment. i think the guinea fowl have lovely feathers.
What a great question. yes you can eat their eggs. they are smaller than hen eggs and have a harder shell but they are very tasty well worth trying. I am getting 12 a day now.

I found 4 guinea fowl wandering the underbrush behind my house in northern Indiana, 30 miles from Chicago. Strangest sounding things.

Hi Kat4u2luv,
Yes they do sound strange. I wonder whether they were all females?

Hi again,
I hope that they are alright. They could have been 3 females and 1 male although guinea fowl do tend to pair off and stick with their partner.

I miss my guineas back home :(
My husband loathes guineas(well, their call at least) and says if I get some, he'll shoot them.

they are so cute
back when i was a kid my dad had 2-3 and they'd go outside his window, 5am every morning and call.
Annoying as hell, but--I miss the sound.
