Seeing how the GT500KR is Fords high peformance production muscle car, it would only be fair to put it against Chevrolets high performance production muscle car which would be the Corvette Z06. the only problem with the Camaro is that its Way to heavy which is why the new 5.0 is better. I mean hell it has 412hp compared to the SS 426hp and yet the Mustang is still able to beat it in the 1/4, and the Mustang Handles better and it has a SRA compared to the camaro IRS

I BELIEVE (key word) that the SS is supposed to be in the category of the gt500....but im not sure! I love the camaro and im a stang owner! That being said, the new SS won't ever be as fast as the old camaro with an S/C, unlike like the older z28 ect.

@GarrettLWilkerson89 Well, another thing is Chevy hasn't gone to over-head cam, variable valve timing, or 4 valve per cylinder. They could easily make 25% more power from most of their motors if they did, but the power wouldn't be as consistent. If you can find one, take a look at a Camaro SS dyno sheet overlayed on a new 5.0 Mustang dyno sheet. The Mustang curve looks like a seismometer or a polygraph readout... lol

You know what. Read the motor trend comparison between the new Mustang GT, Camaro SS, and Challenger SRT8. In EVERY SINGLE CATEGORY that matters, the mustang blows the other two completely out of the water. 0-60, 1/4 mile, 60-0 braking, skid pad testing, dynamic handling, emissions, mileage, specific engine output(HP/L), base price, ALL OF THEM. I don't car about history or any of that, you CANNOT deny that Ford is currently beating everyone in the muscle car market.

I'll give you the challenge to find ONE video on youtube where the SS is faster than the GT. Oh, and FYI, the GT500 and the GT have almost the exact same performance specs....the only difference between the two cars is that one is a GT500...you buy it for the name, not because it is a better car.

They are lighter, handle better even with their grandpa rear axles, and are faster in take off and top speed. Plus they usually run cheaper than the over priced Camaro bricks. Don't get me wrong, I'm no fan boy. I love Chevy and have been a Camaro fan for as long as I've liked cars. But...I'm just stating the facts. Until Chevy upgrades, Mustang is still on top.

the only problem with the Camaro is that its Way to heavy which is why the new 5.0 is better. I mean hell it has 412hp compared to the SS 426hp and yet the Mustang is still able to beat it in the 1/4, and the Mustang Handles better and it has a SRA compared to the camaro IRS

@Fastback91 The new 2011 Z28 Camaro will beat the GT500, according to the specs I have been looking up.We will just have to see what beats what.But I can almost guarantee you that if the Z28 beats the GT500, people will be bragging how the GT500 Supersnake will beat the Z28.It will always and forever be a never ending battle.I've driven both cars but still hooked on the Camaro SS..I think if I was driving a Camaro SS, I think I could beat the 5.0 with launch control which the SS has.

They could easily make 25% more power from most of their motors if they did, but the power wouldn't be as consistent. If you can find one, take a look at a Camaro SS dyno sheet overlayed on a new 5.0 Mustang dyno sheet. The Mustang curve looks like a seismometer or a polygraph readout... lol

You know what. Read the motor trend comparison between the new Mustang GT, Camaro SS, and Challenger SRT8. In EVERY SINGLE CATEGORY that matters, the mustang blows the other two completely out of the water. 0-60, 1/4 mile, 60-0 braking, skid pad testing, dynamic handling, emissions, mileage, specific engine output(HP/L), base price, ALL OF THEM. I don't car about history or any of that, you CANNOT deny that Ford is currently beating everyone in the muscle car market.

@FTWxTactiKill You wanna know whats even funnier..The LS3 in the SS that is generating 426hp only has 16 valves and is not using dohc(dual-overhead cams).Ford's 5.0 GT has dohc and 32 valves, if Cheverolet would have used that in the LS3 like the L99s, they would have had no problem producing about 20% more horsepower.We'll see who has their tales between their legs in 2012 when that ZL1 comes out with supercharged motor..I don't care if Ford does come out with that 650hp supersnake mustang..

@waterkeeper03 im fully aware of the variety of motorsports in the US, so what are these 'timed tests' of which you speak, i will check them out, im guessing they wouldnt do timed tests on a public road tho, and most tests i see in US magazines ( both paper and online) revolve around a slalom and how many Gs a car can pull, neither of which are that indicative of how a car will behave on a real road, the camaro is like 300 lbs heavier so loses a lot of its power advantage to the stang

@waterkeeper03 I don't know what fucked up world you've been living in, but in every single test I've seen comparing the SS and the mustang, gt or gt500, the SS has lost. Plain and simple. I'll give you the challenge to find ONE video on youtube where the SS is faster than the GT. Oh, and FYI, the GT500 and the GT have almost the exact same performance specs....the only difference between the two cars is that one is a GT500...you buy it for the name, not because it is a better car.

GT was 4.6 l @315hp.

@waterkeeper03 lol, they are still pretty damn close to the same performance for the price difference. You definantly are not getting 20,000 worth of performance upgrades from a GT to a GT500....oh and throwing specs at me doesn't prove a point. they are both within a low 4-5 second 0-60. You are simply wrong in thinking that there is a substantial difference in performance from the two cars. It is very small.

there is substantial difference once you get past second gear or have to take a corner, or accelerate out of a corner, or accelerate from a roll, or climb a hill.
I would suggest you scroll to the top and see who has all the thumbs up before you become misguided...

@waterkeeper03 You poor misguided fool. You may be right in the case of the 2010's, but the 2011 Mustangs SMOKE the Camaros. They are lighter, handle better even with their grandpa rear axles, and are faster in take off and top speed. Plus they usually run cheaper than the over priced Camaro bricks. Don't get me wrong, I'm no fan boy. I love Chevy and have been a Camaro fan for as long as I've liked cars. But...I'm just stating the facts. Until Chevy upgrades, Mustang is still on top.
