  • Thanks for the post i found 3 breaks in two wires on our 2006 town and country. Cost from the dealer to replace the wire and housing $300. This fix took 15 minutes topps Thanks to all who post these repair type videos

  • Thanks for posting this video. I just fixed my 2007 T&C following your instructions. This saved a whole lot of money!

  • Right on target! My passenger door failed like this and was repaired while still under warranty. Today it was the driver side's turn, and no more warranty for me. My ground wire was broken exactly where your indicated, and this was an easy do-it-yourself. Anyone else think that 50,000+ views of this video might possibly somehow suggest this is a design defect that should be a covered out-of-warranty fix? Hello, Chrysler???? (Sorry, I know I'm dreaming...)

  • @dayzzzed One would think that Chrysler would take a look at all the problems with the power doors and realize it is a design flaw and fix it. Glad the video helped you.

  • my door worked fine earlier today, then later today when i pushed the open button its would open about 2 inches and make a clicking sound, would this be the same problem as in the video?

  • @mnm7372 Our door would only open about 2 inches also, but never made the clicking sound. Guess it wouldn't hurt to try and see if it is the problem as it doesn't take that long. Good luck!

  • Thank you for posting this!! My drivers side door went out last year, then just a few days ago the passenger side door went out. I followed your instructions in your video and had both doors fixed in under an hour!! Thank you!!!!

  • I CANNOT THANK YOU ENOUGH!!! Watched your video, 5 minutes later I had found the cut wire! 10 minutes later I had spliced it with a heat shrink butt connector and all back together and works perfect! Thanks again!

  • Awesome! I Just did this today on my 2005 Town and Country and found a wire that had severed somehow.

I found that it was easier to disconnect the plastic links and push the loos part up toward the door to have easier access to the wires. Just another way to get at it.

  • Fantastic! Door stopped working a few days ago. Not sure what went wrong. Did a quick search, watched your video. Sure enough; busted wire right were you explained it. Saved me tons of time, not to mention I probably would have broken more things trying to access the wiring. Took me under 15min to fix. Thanks for posting!

  • From my experience, if you have to do this fix, you'll have to do it over and over. From my research, it looks like the Mopar part number for this wiring harness is 4868122AC. You can google that part number to find a replacement harness. the cheapest one I've found so far seems to be around $80.

  • You saved me big time. I followed what you did and had the exact same problem. One wire broken in the same spot as yours. Had it fixed in 30 minutes. My wife also thanks you!

  • I still follow this and am glad I was to help so many people!

  • @laibro1 Our 2005 T&C had the same issue and sure enough I followed your info and right near the end of the links where the factory wrapped the wires in black electrical tape one wire had a partial break. I cut it, stripped both ends with wire cutters and reconnected them with a ten cent crimp connector. Problem solved in less than 45 mins time. Tip, I found it easiest to open up the chain links using a small eyeglass/hobby flat blade screwdriver. Thanks for posting this

  • @laibro1 This video is GREAT! I just fixed my van doors (both of them!) for about $6.00. Thank you SO much for posting this!!!

  • I don't know if you still monitor this, but THANK YOU!

Just bought a 2002 T&C and the passenger side door did not function. Had a wire broken in the same place as yours, had it fixed in a jiffy. Thanks for sharing this valuable information with everyone!

  • How is the door holding up on the van? I have the same door on my van it does not have to button you push you close the door by hand can I Add this to my van power doors?

  • Thank you for this great video you have no idea how much money you just saved me thanks again five stars

  • Great Job, I have a 2004 Grand Caravan and this was the fix! Thanks a bunch.

  • Where can i buy the chain and what is it call

  • @alexmtz31 I would try your local parts store. They will probably be able to tell you what it is called. Good luck.

  • Worked on my van, one wire was broken, fixed it and it works great THANKS!!!!

  • Fantastic, worked on my Chrysler Grand Voyager. Tips: firstly, I couldn't see the break, I could only feel it in the black and red wire right near the cog area. I simply cut near the break and rejoined it - didn't use solder, just stripped and twisted it back together. What confused me was the door still worked sometimes. Obviously wire was touching, but not completely. Also, when opening up the black tabs, simply push down in the middle first and then use flathead. Paul (Brisbane Australia)

  • Thank you!!! Got mine fixed and saved a lot of time and money.

  • Is this Ray Romano? lol

  • Thank you so much man. I just fixed my 05 Dodge Grand Caravan thank to you video. You saved me money

  • Greatness! I just fixed my 07 GC passenger side door in about 10 mins. Saved me $400 per the dealership "very unusual problem" haha

  • Brilliant Video!

    Thank you SO much!

This will make life so much easier!

If you have this problem... have a go yourself....... and save lots of money!

  • Great post! Fixed my door in about half an hour. Greatly appreciate it!

  • Thanks! I'm about to head out to the driveway and do this very same thing.

  • My Dodge Caravan's door hasn't worked for 7 months. I watched your video and fixed it in half an hour. Thank you so much for posting this. You're AMAZING.

  • About to buy a 2005 T & C with a non-working power door. Very thankful for this video and I hope it helps me fix the door ;-)

  • Exactly same problem I had on my 2005 Chrysler T&C. Fixed it just like he described. My thanks to the submitter.

  • Great video and it worked for me. One of my wires had a crimp near where Laibro had his problem. To fix it, I bought some 18 GA wire, solder, and a solder gun. I cut out a 2 inch section of the bad wire and then inserted in the new piece of wire. Doing it this way required 2 solder connections, but is best. Then, I wrapped it good in electrical tape, put it all back together again and it worked. A nice cheap fix - I'm sure it would have been at least $400 if I had taken it in.

  • Thanks to this video, my electric door now works again... thankyou!!!

  • Thank you!! The dealer replaced my wiring harness about 18 months ago under warranty, but now that it's out of warranty and the exact same problem is happening again they want to charge me $425 to replace it again!! I'm going to try this when I get it back from them tomorrow!

  • Great fix Saved me $95 just to find the problem. I was able to fix it in 5 min. Thank abunch

  • I had this same problem and removed the wire harness sections 1 by one, then googled the information and learned more and watched this video... still found no break even after all the great information. dang it.... I put it back together and it still has same problem, so that just means I did not screw it up worse.. so will try again before I take to dealership.

  • Thank you. It took me about 20 minutes to fix. It is easier to pull the chain apart and push it up the wire than get those little caps off. At first glance I did not think this was my problem, but I took the time to remove the tape holding the wire wrap in place and my break was there. I would add the safety caution of discounting the battery to avoid accidently blowing a fuse, etc. My cut wire was larger, so I needed the "blue" wire splice.

  • Thanks-went out got it fixed in 20 min

  • this was awesome as my son's van had a broken wire in the harness, so I watched this and fixed it in 25 minutes!! I did solder the wires so hopefully they will not come apart. Thanks for the video as I surely would have had no idea how to go about this, and my son is mechanically challenged (lol) the mom saved the day thanks to you!

  • I thank God for people like you that share their knowledge with strangers. I had the exact same problem and fixed it in 45 minutes with my curious 3 year old daughter helping me. Could have done it much faster without her but there is no placing a time limit on a successful father-daughter moment. Thanks again.

  • You absolutely rock! Worked exactly as you said and saved me $200. Thank you!

  • thank you thank you!! took me longer to find my tools than it took to fix.

  • Thanks for taking the time to make this video. I have the same problem but have been scared to cut into the fabric sleeve that protects the wires. I assume you had to do the same thing to get at your wires? Was the break obvious? I imagine there is a kink in the wire, or you can feel it with your fingers. How did you repair the wire? Did you use a 'connector'? I assume a wire nut wouldn't be the answer here. I would like to use a shrink tubing to finish it off if possible. Thanks.

  • Wowwwww! Thank youl; I had the same thing happen to me! I just bought the car 4 months ago, so I was disappointed about the door not operating correctly. After watching your video, I was confident that I could do the same thing.

Long story short, you are a life saver. Thank you........

  • Thank you so much! I just watched this and did it! It worked! thanks again!

  • Buddy, thank you very much for this video. 3 minutes to watch your very exact and coherent instructions, 1 minute to get tools, 8 minutes to open.. find the cut ...connect them.. tape it... put it back... and presto... ! mine was not closing or opening all the way, and while i was opening the snaps and until i found the cut i was thinking "oh please show me a cut.. this is easy"..best part my wife is happy !

  • Straight to a broken wire.

From a rusty old mechanic many thanks, job done in 20 mins hate modern electrics not been on the tools for 20 years, this sure helped.

  • Thank you soooo much!!! Easy fix!!

  • THANK YOU very much!! This is exactly what I was looking for. Took me less than 5 minutes to fix and saved me what I would assume would be a couple of hundred bucks!!!

  • Thanks much for the Video. Saved me couple hundred bucks. Dealer was going to replace the harness. My breaks were in the exact same spot as yours. The mechanics at the dealer had to of known this. The service manager told me it would be very involved to try to find the "open ground". They charged me $60 just to tell me that.

  • Awesome, thank you so much this was very helpful.

  • Dude....You Are Awesome!!!! Both of our doors were doing that and I took it to the dealership a while back and they said both of the motors were bad. Gonna cost around $2000. Wasn't going to pay that much, so we kept it like it was. Tried your approach today and both doors had cut wires. Patched them together and now both doors work! Thank you so much!

  • THANK YOU!! Awesome instructions and video!!! I am not mechanically inclined and was able to fix it in 10 minutes :)

  • Great advice. My 2004 T&C Touring had a driver side door that did not move at all when any of the buttons were pushed. After opening it up as shown in the video, I found and repaired a wire that was cut. After the repair, the door only moved about two inches and then stopped. I took it apart again and found a second break in the wire that was inside the factory taped area. Now it works like a charm. Again, VERY helpful video.

  • The power doors on my 2007 Dodge Grand Caravan SXT work when you press the door button on the inside of the van, they work when you press the door buttons on the keypad, and they work when you press the buttons that are up on the ceiling in the front of the van. However, they do not work when you press the button on the handle on the inside of the door, or when you pull the handle open on the outside of the door.

  • This was awesome advice!! It saved me a bunch in labor costs and diagnostic costs!

It only took me around 5 minutes to fix my door and did not cost me a penny as I already had the electric connectors and tape. Thanks.

  • Excellent, saved me from diagnosing this pesky problem! My wire was broken exactly where yours was, took me 10 min to fix, and that included waiting for the soldering iron to heat up!

  • Thanks dude, whoever you are. That worked perfect, and probably saved me from getting bent over at the dealership.

  • Thank you so much for posting this video. I found one neatly broken wire once I opened the track up in my 2007 T&C. It took me 10 minutes and $0 to fix it with your help. Your effort in making this video is greatly appreciated!

  • Kick ass, thank you for posting!!!

  • mine came off the tracks on the bottom, how do you fix the wheels so you can get them back on the track.

  • Will this work on a 2002 Town and Country where the doors work sometimes/ will open a tiny bit and stop/ or sometimes will not work at all? Also I have the same problem with the tailgate. Any help would be much appreciated.

  • @higgalo It should work. The Town and Country is the same as the dodge. The problem you described is the exact same problem we were having. Not sure about the tailgate as we haven't had that issue yet. Good luck and hope it works for you.

  • @laibro1 ..well, found no bad wires. Looked from where the wires go into the back of the sliding door back to where the wires go into the column. Ugh. I don't know if this helps but I have noticed that when it rains or after it has rained the doors do not work at all. Is there anything else I can check? a fuse or relay switch or something. Thanks for all the help.

  • @higgalo@higgalo sorry I can't help. I am not a mechanic just a plain old guy that had a door issue and thought I would help others out. Good luck and hope you get it figured out. I guess I would check a fuse but that is only a guess. Good luck

  • you are awesome the a mechanic told me it would cast at least $75 to fix. I fixed it for $2.50. thanks

  • Thanks repaired exactly as you described.

  • Big Thanks!!! After viewing your video I repaired my broken power door. I was told that a wire may be cut but never knew how to repair it. Found out about 5 inches of wire was cut and missing. My own mechanic refused to repair it saying he may have to change the motor mechanism but didn't want to chance being bogged down with time on it. Another gas station mechanic says he would charge $250.00 to fix it. So thanks again.

  • I'm Gina try this

  • Really well done - thanks for taking the time to explain. I am just sorry I ever got the electric doors to begin with and think it may even be best to just pull out that black sprocket gear which essentially removes the friction and makes it a manual door.

  • Great video. Was coming in and out of focus at times. But it I showed me what I needed do know. Good job.

  • Just applied this fix to my 2006 Grand Caravan. Found the break right away. I can only imagine what a mechanic would charge me.

Can't thank you enough. Well Done!

  • Very helpful. I just bought a 2004 Grand Caravan today. I hadn't even realized it had power sliding doors, so I didn't test them before buying. The passenger side one had the broken wire problem and I fixed it in about 10 minutes.

  • YOU ARE THE MAN! One quick Google search and up came your video. 4 breaks on one side of the van, 1 on the other. $1.60 worth of wire versus $1800+ plus at a dealership! Thank you SO MUCH! Looks like I'm not the only one you've helped, too!

    THANK YOU!

  • THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!! 2006 Dodge Grand Caravan

I took my van to the dealer with the very same problem. They blamed it on the motor and told me I needed $900.00 worth of work. They also tried to tell me I should fix both doors, even though only one was causing problems!

Well I watched your video twice. I got out the tools and did it myself! You saved me a ton of money that I didn't have! It works perfectly now! I'm so grateful!

  • Thank you for your video. i had 3 breaks within that assembly. fixed them all and door works good.

  • laibro1 Your the STINKING MAN!!!! Both my doors had stopped working. Both had this issue. One SMACK in place in the video and another had multiple breaks in the line on the RED Black and Yellow Black wires. I cannot thank you enough. Nice video (Other than the cover :-)) and wonderful help. Thanks again.

  • Thanks for the great video!

  • Wow where do I send the box of donuts. I'll still have to find where the break is, but wow this provides so much more direction.
