Please don't mark this as spam, this a very helpful post for lefties:
I just got a job working for a company called "Lefty's San Francisco" and they sell common products for lefties like lefty scissors, school supplies, cooking stuff, gardening and home improvement tools and lots of cool stuff for left-handed people. It's the number one company that sells left handed products so check us out if you're in your right mind
I basically knit with the working stitches on the right moving to the left; my major problem though is following patterns; all appear to want to go in the direction from left to right so when you talk about right side vs. wrong side patterns loose me & it becomes difficult to follow patterns. Any help there? It becomes important for me not to twist the stitches too.
it's kind of weird when you teach yourself how to knit and i never switched the needles. i can knit from both ways and i have no problems. i have been doing it for 10 years now.
Apparently the term clockwise and counterclockwise has to have a physical reference. Almost like an Escher print where you can see quite clearly UP and another quite clearly sees DOWN. Copy the movements, ignore the terminology if it doesn't work for you. The important thing is to wrap in the direction I wrap, lest the stitches become twisted.
I just started learning from a friend. When the "right" way proved difficult, she stood in front of me to help me do it lefthanded. You can learn from right-handed people, they just have to be standing in front of you to mirror the movements.
Your video is very clear and easy to understand! I do have a question though. Since doing a knit row is like doing a purl row for right handers, when I'm reading a pattern should I left hand knit when it says purl and left hand purl when it says knit? I learned how to knit right handed but I'm now wondering if knitting left handed will put less strain on my left hand so that's I want to try this method.
I have a number of friends who are left-handed and have a difficult time knitting right-handed using either the Continental (my personal favorite) or English method. After working a left-handed swatch, I decided to search for left-handed knitting videos and found yours. Great job! Now I can help them out without pushing the right-handed method. :)
Yes thank you I left handed and I knit! Your videos are so clear(clearer then books because most books I am sorry to say are geared more towards right handed knitter) No offense to right handed knitters they just have it allot easier then left handed knitters. Anyway hope you come out with more videos and let me know about the book or dvd that you plan to make(when it is done and how much it is). Again thank you so much!
The DVD is due Friday! I'm picking up the final copy today from the producer. see leftoutknitter dot com for information. In the DVD I demonstrate 2 left-handed knitting methods. One is with the leading leg on the back (like this YouTube video) and the other is with the leading leg on the front. From cast-on to bind off and several increases, decreases tips and tricks are thrown in there. The next DVD will have cables, socks and lace work!
Goodness, you're quite welcome. I gather you knit and are left handed? Are there other videos you would like? I am working on a book as well, but might try a DVD inlieu of a book as so many of us are visual learners.

Very helpful. I'm just now discovering how many Lefties were forced to learn the 'Righty' method. This will be a big help for Lefty Newbies.

I was forced to learn right-handed (I'm a proud lefty), but I want to learn how to knit left-handed. I'll be an ambidextrous knitter :).

Me, too! I learned knitting and crocheting from a righty I didn't know anyone who could knit left-handed.
