Yes! Excellent advice! I think you could have someone else do most of your hair and you deliberately leave out the front to do yourself. That wayyou know your edges are in good hand yet you won't have to spend the time physically putting braids throughout your whole head. Love your videos!
i totally agree, Hair is hard work. ??? how often do you dust or trim your hair. I believe i cut my length off for about the first fours years. what are your thoughts on trimming
@whitneysolier1 ya know i really cant say but i know i got it off the free play copy right free music websight. When i find it the mp3 I'll let u know
I don't know how I missed this one but "PREACH PREACHA!" LOL! This is so true; I myself was guilty of being a church mouse when I went to these types of shops then ended up venting later about how tight the braids were...never again. I'm with you sis, I'll also be doing my own hair from here on out :)
One of the biggest problems with a goo african hair braider is, most of them don't have knowledge of how to take care of hair, or how to promote hair health. If u look at most african hair braiders they don't have healthy hair, and many of them have no edges
you are def. speaking the truth!!! lol...I hate it when hair stylists say "I got this" ...and I am starting out natural this is my hair's second month birthday...and I appreciate the advice and words of wisdom from women like you....thank you so much, :)
Good to see you on here again! I'm glad to hear someone else had that experience with the hair braiders. I had to cut all my hair off once because of the way they braided it. It was so tangled, so matted, and so messed up. The worst experience with breaking edges... my first set of micros, she braided one edge so tight it snapped right off in her hand. And she kept it moving!! I was like never again!
@mztmack2708 it snapped in her hand....what girl. and i know what you were thinking if she was not so far along on my head i would just get up right now. ~it's good to hear from you too Lady. Hope all in well in your world!
I've chopped my hair off about a year ago and I'm only at like 2 and a half inches :(
And then I saw your video just 2 and half years after the chop.....wow! Just WOW! You're hair is amazing!!! That is what I want. Maybe not that long (because that just never going to happen for me) but that manageable! The way you were combing you hair is amazing. How do you get it that manageable? I've looked for Kimmay tube leave in but we don't have it in the UK :(
I know exactly what you mean about that knot created at the base of the braid. It made it extremely hard for me to take out my braids a year ago. In fact I lost so much hair...shortly thereafter I did my 2nd BC. It was a hard lesson to learn..but what you are saying is so true.
Glad to see you back. I feel your frustration. I pray before I get my braids done... I go to the same braider since 2009.She is polite and understanding. In terms of braids I do it to save time but the pain comes when your taking your hair out. In the mean time its a fantastic protective style. I went to a braider in a salon last month and explained how i wanted my hair we argued for hours as she was trying to intimidate me. But Im the customer I know what my hair wants.

You have no idea, how happy I am to see you back here with a video! When I just went natural in 2009, just three months later, this lady that braided my hair, did it too tight and I took out all the edges (front AND back) once I got home. It was a disaster. I have braided twice after that all by myself, and I learned to do so from your 'Braidtwist' video ... I NEVER pick my edges again. I have hair that is almost baby fine, and it simply cannot take all that stress!
@babynae00 Thanks, i love to make vidz but sometimes it can be a hassle. I finally have a new camera, which makes it easier, now all i need is a new laptop, lol. I know it never ends ^_^
Great video! It so important to remember that we are in charge of our hair. Whenever I'm thinking about going to a braider/stylist I talk to them on the phone first and ask a million questions about their technique and my preferences. If they get an attitude or I hear something I dont like, I just keep it moving.
@radiant812 i think that is what i am gonna have to do. I know i can be more inquisitive on the phone than in person. It seems as if once i get on their turf i get quiet. And if i do say something i am not persistent with it.
@LuBellaCoils And i guess that is a key factor too. If you do find someone it's good to go to the same person consistently. That way they know that you have this preference...a loose form of braid
So Glad to SEE YOU!!! you are so on point with this video, when you were talkin about looking at the person that is doing your hair i was like dang that is so true!!Part of the reason i went natural was because i let someone in my hair that was just trying to make some money....she destroyed my hair!! My red flag went up when i walked in her house and saw her, but i ignored my better judgement :(, anyway your hair has grown so beautifully!! OMG Lady L!!! I LOVE IT!
@Hamstring187 It's like some people will leave all their resent and anger with life in your hair, and we wonder why our hair is falling out a few days later. Because i head was just assaulted lol. And i soooo agree about the red flag, It's like God gives us that discernment that says WARning WARNING!! turn around and run the other way but out of desperation and longing to get our hair done we let them do it. But like we said earlier as we do our own hair more we get SKillzzz ;P lol
@latia4u and @Hamstring187: I tell you when we walk into these places to get our hair done, once our gut is telling us walk away, we should just do it! God does give us warnings. I remember being so furious because this lady was literally ripping out my fine hair, and telling me that my hair was too coarse/nappy! Imagine that! Desperation led me there because she was cheaper, but to get my hair ripped out? No way. I haven't let anybody touch my hair since then, and that was in 2009!
@KeepinItReal0247 Wash it with a grocery store brought natural shampoo, Giovanni /Aubrey Organics HSR deep cond with heat. Kimmay tube leave in (plus proten treatment or henna once a month) hope this helps everything else i do is just sporadic. I will do a vid soon but that's pretty much all of my regiment.
i hear u..I had that same problem with people braiding my hair. when i realized my front was thinning, i made myself learn to do my own braids. i am now doing it myself and i take special care of my edges( they are very fragile.) i however try not to braid my hair too often.
excellent advice. my hair is not that long yet...maybe about 7 inches average all over my head. and im already tired of doing it sometimes (im pregnant) but i am so leery of going to a salon or someone's home who doesnt handle my hair the way i would or care about it the way I do.
@caliBornbEauty sometimes i dont think they know how much we love our hair. Peace and blessing to you and your baby! I know as tired as these arms get without pregnancy i feel for you ^_^
So glad to see you will be making vids again. Sorry that you are frustrated about your braids, but it is great confirmation. I won't be getting hair added to mine to get braids anytime soon. Had a similar experience getting my ends clipped in December. I'll be investing in a pair of shears so that I don't have to lose 2 inches the next time I decide I need a trim.
