To all you people who seriously think being high will help you to enjoy or understand this music, I hope you tear down your wall one day and actually think about what this album means.
@meganinja456 The Wall didn't have anything to do with weed. Marijuana is not as bad as you seem to think. Do you have any idea how many drugs Pink Floyd took?
@DerOberstKrieger So you are saying weed does not distance you from reality, or cause you do ultimately accomplish less with your life? Weed is not the only thing I refer to, but also the stronger and weaker drugs alike. Many of my family member's lives have been screwed up by substance abuse, so don't pretend that drugs are innocent. The Wall is about facing reality and breaking down the walls that separate you from the world. Weed makes it harder to do that. "I don't need no drugs to calm me."
@meganinja456 I'm saying The Wall is about much harder drugs than weed. Marijuana and LSD in moderation are not bad for you, it is when you begin seriously abusing them or other drugs that problems start. The "I don't need no drugs to calm me" line comes during an emotional breakdown in which he also says "I don't need no arms around me," and I don't think they're saying we shouldn't love anyone. You're quoting a character and not their actual views.
@DerOberstKrieger I think that is about both weed and stronger drugs. And no, I'm not saying you shouldn't love anyone, that would be the equivalent of strengthening your wall. But I don't think he is saying he needs drugs to calm him either. I think it was an allusion to what drugs have put some of them through, but it can be interpreted different ways. One problem with drugs is that you may do them in moderation one day, and be heavily addicted the next, plus many drugs have secondhand smoke.
@DerOberstKrieger Also, if you depend on a drug to keep you from depression, you are even more likely to get addicted to it, be it weed, alcohol, heroin, etc. My point being that if there is a very real risk of addiction which could ruin your entire life, than why is it worth it in the first place? To be fair, I dislike alcohol more than weed, and I respect those who keep control of their drug use; but I still believe that it is an emotional crutch that is ultimately another brick in the wall.
@meganinja456 As far as Pink Floyd doing drugs, you're probably right if you consider only their early career. Syd Barret in particular went over the edge doing hallucinogens and other strong drugs, and he may have also had schizophrenia. I would like to think when the other band members saw all the bad things that happened with Syd that they realized how bad drugs could be. They claim to have never done drugs other than drinking a lot of alcohol, but who knows, you could be right about that.
@gorshgajl I'm just saying it would have been an good mix. If you don't want to be the one who mixes it I'm sure that someone will. It will not be any less epic just because you won't do it.
Amazing. Fantastic. Killing! Can't find words! Guithar solo made me fly. It was even better than in original version. That great is the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. Long live PINK FLOYD- best band ever!
i cant have any problem with a philharmonic orchestra doing pink floyd. to perfect an orchestrated version of this only shows how much more perfect pink floyd is. dont beat on something that helps man.... by the way, to lower my vocabulary on this, i just need to say "HELL FUCKING YEAH!"
bearmouse..... come on man no one is making fun of anything here... they are paying tribute to a great band and a great song. Yes Pink Floyd and there originals will forever be classics and great but does that mean no one can pay homage to greatness. Get over yourself.

Quit saying that this song is about drugs BECAUSE IT ISN'T. You are obviously mistaking this song with Comfortably Numb.
