@clayg80 You are wrong for a couple of reasons. First off, this ring is NOT a boxing ring and doesnt give a bounce to it, no real mat either. In the UFC, their cage gives just as much as this ring due to it being raised in the air and being able to flew. The UFC's octagon also is matted, slightly more than this ring. Therefor, they are basically equil on impact. If anything the UFC's cage has more give on landing.

The choke Bas is trying to do when there on the ground is call a wedge choke. Its not a sleeper joke but a wind pipe choke so its dangerous. Harder to do when your on the ground but very effective on the stand or on top.

Bas Rutten is a MMA god. You can strike with the palm to the face standing or on the ground. Closed fist to the body. He didn't strike on top in fear of being submitted which he ended up getting anyway.

@mcchuff There was a gentleman's agreement not to strike on the ground because the Japanese audience found hitting someone on the ground taboo back then. This was only a loose agreement between fighters and not an actual rule, however. If one fighter started throwing strikes on the ground, than it would be fair game for the rest of the fight.

Also, because close-fisted punches to the face were illegal, it probably made more sense just to look for submissions.

And this is an interesting fight, and I'm failing to see how it is slow.

Considering there were several leg kicks and strikes, and then a slam, is the first 20 seconds.

Plenty of fights in the UFC, with top contenders even, do nothing but size each other up for the first round.

The only difference is the screaming, so from that, it would seem to any intelligent person that you must just not like MMA fighting.

its pancrase (it says in the title) it looks different coz theres different rules. rules like open hand strikes because of no gloves. also fighters are given the choice to wear boots or go barefoot. with boots u cant kick to the head, barefoot you can. but also it looks different coz its old. the ufc of today evolved from events such as this.
