  • One of my favorite manic songs! This song has the feel of a speeding train to me...

  • I think this Version's sound is a little bit better.

But the hottest Noble/Bowlly number is "Who walks in when I walk out"

    Sincerley,

    Félix

  • Am born after World War II but I could say Great Band, Great Al Bowlly, Great Music.. The best crooner this AL....

  • This is quite a "fast" song for Al. He was more at home with lovely ballads. Enjoyed hearing this. Thanks for posting.

  • Wonderful music and presentation. Noble and Bowlly hotter as ever.

  • Soloists - unknown (clarinet), Harry Berly (viola, under Bowlly), Max Goldberg (muted trumpet), Harry Berly (viola, again!), Harry Jacobson (piano), Ernest Ritte (baritone sax). Berly may also be the clarinet soloist.

  • There was a "Swing Era" in Great Britain that started a few years before the classic "Swing Era". Apparently the Depression didn't hit the UK as hard as in the USA as the public continued to buy records and patronize hot "proto-swing" dance bands such as Nobles. Having a great crooner like Al Bowley in the stable helped a great deal too.

  • The 1930's seemed to exude class and sophistication...anyone want to comment?

  • @dudemantwo ..I would definitely stop off at a1930s dance hall in my time machine. : )

  • @dudemantwo I'll comment; I think you're confusing it with the 1920's, which this arrangement strongly evokes, despite the year recorded.

Nice arrangement, though, very hard to play with this combination of precision and feeling.

  • @dudemantwo I kinda agree with JVTeragarden. But yeah, the 1930s were sophisticated. I do wish I lived in that decade.

  • An unusually swinging Bowlly/Noble number, it's brilliant!

  • I lived in London once many years ago and I visited there many times. I once went by tube to Elephant & Castle -- I can't remember for what purpose, but I do remember getting lost when I got out of the tube station.

  • Now, now. We Americans, at least some of us,

DO know the difference bet. Athens and, say,

Bydgoszcz. But you're right on the whole; it's even worse with the geographically-challenged younger generations.

  • Some irresistible brisk rhythm. I love the "Elephant $ Castle" picture. That's London!

  • I wonder if the Elephant and Castle picture or the knowledge of it inspired Baz Luhrman to create (Nicole Kidman's character), Santine's gloriously beautiful apartment atop the elephant in his movie "Moulin Rouge."

  • Thanks for waking me up with this lively number!

By the way, I'll be teaching at the Navaho reservation in Arizona next week, so won't be online. :(

  • Bon voyage et bon amusement.

  • I'd rather be going to Paris, but merci for your good wishes. Who knows, maybe they'll be holding a Kit Carson rebellion...
