You are right actually. Edwin Land, inventor of polarization, first went to Detroit to car manufacturers. He offered his invention for benefits of drivers. And guess what, they do not implement it until now because it would make car more expensive.
Here is what I know about that technology so far. Drivewear is patent pending combination of highly reactive Transitions dyes and NuPolar polarizing filter. These dyes react to visible and UV spectrum. That is why Drivewear also darkens in situations where there is no UV.
This year Transitions come with highly reactive dye called XtraActive. But this product is not combined with polarizer. Simply said Drivewear is the only technology benefiting from photochromics and polarization.
