  • what is this song called?

  • Really nice work mate!

  • and where is the ending?..i can edit in video any latte art pictures..

  • i love coffee (:

  • i think the espresso shot was too overextracted

  • im studying about coffee and i think u 've may not pressed it well, it's over espresso, i think you should steam the milk and make the coffe at the same time, anyway, it's so cool :D oh my english is not well, do you understand me :)

  • You didn't show the pour of the milk. That's usually my favorite part.

  • God Bless Expresso Coffee :)

  • This is not Arabian coffee.

  • ur big on coffee i see

  • what's the expresso part is it the coffee beans ?

  • @1itsme2yaboichris ESPRESSO is the way of making that shot of coffee - using a mahcine with pressured water etc.... the coffee shot that it makes is also commonly called an espresso

  • i wish i had a coffee macker like that

  • Oh and I have one question. Aren't you supposed to steam the milk first and then pull the shot so that the espresso will still be good when you put the milk foam to it ?

  • @klarinetta The espresso will still taste good after letting it sit for a while. The crema will have dissipated but that doesn't affect the flavour of the espresso. Crema itself is very bitter an doesn't contribute much to the flavour of the shot. Having the milk at the right temperature and well steamed will make a much better cappuccino than letting it sit and separate while you make the espresso.

  • @abstractgourmet I absolutely LOVE coffee. I use a 10 cup programmable cuisinart coffee maker.

  • @abstractgourmet i have a problem with the crema of the espresso if you can help me please reply to me and here it is i use the izzy c201 black line espresso machine and it makes the crema soapy not like it supposed to be i tried over and over again but no result what should i do. if you have any solutions i would be very happy to hear them. oh by the way i 've subed you. :)

  • @abstractgourmet Correct me if I'm wrong, but wouldn't steaming the milk and pulling the shot, simultaneously, make for a better shot?

  • @chimaera2695 In normal circumstances it would. But the Rancilio Silvia is a single boiler machine with a manual steam switch. So you can't pull the shot and make the milk at the same time as the steam circuit needs to heat up before you can steam.

  • @klarinetta ideally you want them both ready at the same time. I find it best to pour the required amount of milk first, then put the shots on, and while they are extracting, steam the milk.

  • I think this machine would be great for me since single boiler doesn't bother me at all because I never ever and forever use milk or anything in my coffee. Well on rare occasion when I go to a café(which is really rare because my coffee at home tastes better than most cafés in my opinion) I dip one brown sugar cube into my coffee and suck it but not always so it's like maybe 1 or 2 sugar cubes a year at the most.

  • Now i have to go make a cup.

  • Anybody know the name of this song? Would be great to hear an extended mix of it.

  • @Zeneternity Noone reads descriptions anymore do they ? It's by In Grid - Tu Es Foutu, I'm sure there's an extended mix somewhere on youtube.

  • @abstractgourmet

Found it thanks and the extended remix! Thanks for putting it on there and the video was nice too

  • 29sec of ur shortblack well...

  • what is the name of the song that you have set as the background.

  • I like big cups of coffee, why are yours so small? And is it stronger then regular coffee? Ttyl.

  • I like big cups of coffee, why are yours so small? And is it stronger then regular coffee? Ttyl.

  • Looks like you did a great job foaming the milk -- was disappointed that you didn't also pour it. I have yet to see a video on youtube where milk frothed with the Rancillio Silvia is actually poured and makes latte art!

  • I want one of those machines, it would keep me amused for hours

  • perfect for grinding hash lol

  • I have the same Rancilio Rocky grinder set to 13. If I went set it to 11 it becomes too fine for my Gaggia to extract more than a few drops. If I set it to 4 (like in this video) my machine would probably stop working altogether.

  • check the cup from the beginning it has no holder or ear or whatever u call it, then at the end when the coffee looks better with a design, the coffee cup is different, don't get fooled

  • Comment removed

  • read the description genius.

  • what is bleeding the coffee?...

a little over extracted, would change the grind a bit...

  • Bleeding the coffee is a stupid idea that people who don't know much about espresso used to do. Basically it means you discard the first few seconds of the shot (which is actually the best part) because in theory you are bleeding the coffee of it's badness.

I'm pretty sure this originates from old Italian coffee makers with very dirty machines and not great water who needed to bleed the machine of it's build up of crap before letting the espresso run into the cup.

Either way, not a great idea

  • Two words my friend, coffee maker. - _ -

  • I just love the smell of the espresso when the first shot is pours .

  • Nice vid. the espresso shot looks absolutely tasty.

  • Wrong! You need to steam the milk first of all before the making the coffee, you can grind the #beans but not make the coffee. The reason is so that once the milk has been heated you can let it rest so that the bubbes sink to the bottem and allows the top of the milk to become light and foamy, great for latte's and adding to espresso, once you have made your coffee then the milk will be prefect!

  • that WAS agreat shot brother!

  • questo è ..un buon caffè!oooooh.. ma il latte non c'entra!

  • thank you i love that really

  • you didn't bleed the coffee....

  • @Louieinoz dont bleed the coffee, the best idea is to keep the machine regularly cleaned, for a frequently-used machine it's a good idea to wash out the pipes every 45 min or so

  • bull shit the finished product is yours....

  • NOT BAD, BUT KEEP PRACTICING!

  • THANKS I WILL !!!1

  • I was kinda disappointed there at the end. I wanted to see you pour!

  • Check out my other videos for outdated crappy attempts at me pouring latte art.

  • Music: In-Grid "Tu es foutu".

  • Hi, How did you get the espresso to come out so slowly? I just got a Rancilio Silvia and the espresso comes out very fast and I can't get a good crema. What am I doing wrong?

  • Maybe your grind. His came out a little too slow. It's supposed to come out steadily and be about as thick as a strand of spaghetti.

  • Try using a bit more espresso and tamp harder or better yet adjust the grind finer. Without a top quality grinder you're sunk though.

  • @gblan i know this video is old but i simply felt i have to comment here.

Adjusting the volume is always a good idea before playing around with the grind. Of the two variables, it's much easier to play with.

  • what is your grinder set at? certain coffee beans must be set at a finer grind, which corresponds to a lower number on the grinder.

  • @szorin13 i have the same grinder set at 9 whereas this guy has his set at 4 if i remember properly. of course, i have to tamp more because mine is set coarser. i could turn mine down to 4 too, but that would mean far less tamping.

  • what is the name of the music??

  • Hi abstract,

What song do you have playing on your video?

I live in Colombia and I've had my Silvia for about a year now. I don't know what took me so long to get it. I was missing out on so much!

AND coffee here is not too hard to find ;)

    Algis

  • i was just wondering on the amount of grinded beans, was that a single shot?

  • I wanted to see you actually pour it!

  • That's exactly what I was going to say.

  • Way too fine.

  • I a restricted pour. Same pour time as a normal shot but half the volume. It's all the sweetness, intensity and flavour without the crap.

  • wooow yumy ...

I wanna really test this ^^

  • was that a single shot?

  • hi, is the Rancilio rocky really quiet?

  • how much do these machine cost ??

  • around US $400 I think. Given the exchange rate, roughly equivalent to $5000 Australian.

  • lmao. You can try getting a cheaper version from a department store for less than $100 Australian.

  • fresh man

  • man i just got a hedache watching this

  • lol whata tasty cup of cofee does anyone here like arabic cofee or turkish?

  • I love turkish!

  • I wonder if there is anything you can do to make instant coffee taste better?

  • Pour it down the sink perhaps ? At least that way you don't have to taste it :)

  • QUESTION!, What song you got playing there? Thanks!

  • read the descrip like normal people ;) and also a response to mlh, maybe (if you live in the US) instead of your standard drip coffee get the trader joes if you dont like the instant coffee, the trader joes stuff isnt grounds, you have to grind it yourself, and one of the important aspects is how fresh it tastes, compare freshly ground coffee to folgers, ull see what i mean :P

  • aha u cheated on your milk pouring part :D

  • Oh I like this video. Such good music and camera angles. The final coffee cup looks delicious!

  • nice video, nice espresso shot, would have liked to see the milk pour.

  • Great to see someone actually compacting the grounds with some decent force! 25 sec pour, crema looks nice - Good work. What time do you open! ha ha

  • Cheers mate... The machinery has changed a bit since this video got made... now using an Isomac Mondiale and a Mazzer mini... I open when I wake up :) Coffee is free, but the airfare is a killer.

  • My wife and I ravelled quite a bit mate, and apart from the odd gem in some countries,I reckon NZ & Oz have the extraction sorted! Tell me - do you count your 25 secs fromthe time you pull the handle? or from when the coffee starts to run?

  • I count from when the water starts running... or when you flick the switch, because that's the time when the water hits the coffee and the extraction starts. I'm less fussy about counting seconds these days, and certain coffees I think favour either shorter or longer pours... but it's a good baseline to start from.

  • i love this song!!

    awesome video! :D

  • i like this video :)) nic music

  • lol, a long time ago i had one of those really expensive coffee makers, and i had no clue had to work it, and i messed up every time so i just bought a plain old maker, haha. But great video!

  • i dont know much..ive only been barista for 3months and still training but...where i work we time our our pours and they go into little shot glasses!! we make sure its always in between 28-30 seconds?? is that normal is it just coz the place i work at is F'd!!

  • I liked the music.. XD It would of been cool to see them make the leaf but other wise.....cool vid.

  • Right about the time we're gonna get to see the pour, he slaps up this beautiful photograph of a rosetta.

    I call shenanigans.

  • hahaha... rightly so too... the pour(s) were dreadful... but feel check out my latte art video for verification that I can sorta/kinda do it.

  • Watched the video,

I am totally assured that you can do it.

  • And now for a nice cup of tea..

  • Nice video. I like the song. What is it?

  • Check the info on the video - the song is "In Grid - Tu Es Foutu"

  • this was a double cappuccino, right?

  • wow nice vid that coffee look nice :)

  • Very nice video. I'd like to see another one using a naked portafilter, to see how well the extraction is really happening. There were some interesting color differences in each of the two portafilter channels.

  • I have not learnt anything... If the song was not playing,, I would not continue the clip to the end!~

  • I appreciate your candid response. Although I'm pretty sure I didn't set out to teach you anything... So I guess we're even. Glad you enjoyed the song.

  • I watched the clip another time,, it was worth it!

    Thanks for sharing .. :D

  • you must really love coffee because you got about $500 worth of coffee apliences don't you.

  • That grinder and espresso machine will set you back about $900.

  • Actually about $750 all together. I got the Silvia for $450 and the Rocky for $300, second hand on ebay... which was a steal.

  • the coffee machine Rancilio Silvia is

    more than $500 alone,

    plus the Rancilio grinder...

    another $500

  • Nope. Check ur prices.

  • You guys might to check your prices. There is big trade of second hand Silvia's and Rocky's online, although they hold their value quite well for many years.

Also should mention I'm from Australia, so $AUD are going to be higher than $USD.

  • same here im in australia and i cant find a rancilio under 500

    rocky maybe 400

  • Nice video, nice music and nice coffee :D

    I'll have one thanks!

  • What's the name of this song???? Thanks!

  • Music : In Grid - Tu Es Foutu

  • You're AWESOME! THANKS!

  • Did you clean the Steam nozzle with women panties:)?? Great looking coffee none the less!!

  • ahhh, not quite... but thanks for the tip :)

  • Nice Shoot ! The Bean you use in the video are yours ?? you have a video with your roaster, your bean come from there ??

    Thanks

  • I'm just a regular coffee fan, I could never afford machinery like that. More power to coffee though. :B

  • I really don't know any thing.

How many ounces is one shot?

And do you just put that amount of water in the maker?

What decides how much crema you get?

How much coffee do you put in there for one or two shots?

  • where's the crema?

  • In the cup ?

  • Interesting.

  • i want to learn to make this type of coffee, what machine do you recomend for a beginner in this?

  • Work in café in Paris, you'll learn how to do this in 1min........or less

  • cool vid its one of my favourets great job i am hopeing to be a barista when im older lol

  • Why does the grind from that Rocky look so clumpy?

  • Good question Mark. I've asked that a couple of times myself around CG... but the shots seem to come through ok so I haven't really investigated further. It could be static build up or else the burrs are a bit loose when grinding sometimes... I was going to buy a replacement set of burrs and see if it made a difference... but then had advice to say it wasn't the problem. I normally break up any big clumps before I dose.

  • The reason for the clumps is probably that the grind is set too fine. When someone order a ristretto, I adjust the grind to make it finer, and then I get the same clumpy look on the coffee. Besides, you can tell it's too fine (unless you prefer ristrettos) from the time it takes before the water runs steadily into the cup. I should be a "hanging drip", the coffee in the filter gives too much resistance in your film, due to it being very fine.

  • Well I do like ristretto... It's what I aim for when I'm making coffee... Although clumping can be due to a few factors... such as static when the coffee exits the dosing chute... But I haven't had too many issues when pulling shots... the one in the video is just how I like it :)

  • i dont have a manual espresso machine but i plan maybe to buy one. I have now a Full automatic espresso machine from delonghi. The espresso has a nice creme but it is more like water, in your movie the espresso is more like honey, seems very thick. How can i get it thicker, mine is more like water?

  • Great video. I wish I could afford Ms. Silvia

  • I ONLY DRANK ONE CUP OF COFFE IN MY LIFE

  • WELL I HOPE IT WAS A GOOD ONE

  • it was bitter and horrible

  • thats a shame.

  • i hate coffee

but i find ur videos strangely relaxing

  • I hate your comment... but I find it strangely complimentary... So thanks :)

  • Wow!!! Great lesson!! Please let me know the amount of coffee to make a 2oz shot? ;)

  • I have the same machine, I found the grind at 5-6 to be perfect for me. That was a beautiful shot by the way. Props!

  • Cheers :) need to see some more shots posted up here...

  • Most of the time I roast my own beans... I've got a whole bunch of green beans, but I prefer a blend containing some PNG, Central American, and often an Ethiopian for something interesting...

and yeh I generally aim for short ristretto style pours... So roughly 40ml double shots... this happened to be the nicer ones I've captured on video.

  • What beans do you use?

I assume this is a ristretto as well?

    Thanks :D

  • I got a naked porta for my Lady a couple of weeks ago, so yeah, I can do some espresso porn :)

  • That shot haunts my dreams- I got the Lady 6 years ago and got it mostly for its rep for espresso, but as I've got into latte art, I hate this machine because it was a retarded steaming mechanism- you have to keep this button pressed the whole time, and the knob is on TOP of the machine, so you need three hands- one for the steam on/off button, one for the knob, and one for the pitcher. I actually just steam with my old Krups Novo. I really should have bought a Silvia.

  • Hrmm, yep it sounds like you should've got Silvia all along... she's the real deal :) Great espresso and great milk (with a little effort). Post up some footage of your Brasilia...

  • Well i guess it's all different... Maybe your zero point is high than mine is ? On some machines I've seen the point at which the burrs actually touch is around -4 ... Which is why it's important to calibrate Rocky before you start... Also depends on the blend... but I normally vary around a few stops either side of this.

And yeh, that shot was a nice one :)

  • I have a Brasilia Lady, which is comparable to a Silvia, with a Rocky- and I am shocked that your Silvia doesn't choke on grounds set at 4! I've found my sweet spot, or so I thought, between 9 and 11. But I cannot argue with that shot, it's GORGEOUS.
