  • Very nice, Fran. It makes one happy to listen to this. I'm impressed and envious.

    Mark E.

  • @eisensta Mark, I was just enjoying your "Green Rose" this morning. You know, we're never happy with our own playing, it often seems that someone else is "ahead" of us, but luckily with Hawaiian music we can just bask in the pleasure of playing, regardless.

  • Cool playing, love the feel and style...but that guy in the center is rather a rude young man isn't he? Was he up past his bedtime or what, lol?

  • @TheDeexster I agree that he appears detached, but he was actually very attentive. Believe me, it's hard to be one of the guys not playing but in the video. I felt bad that my camera work and editing was not as flattering to the other players as I might have liked, but I'm kind of limited since I just set up the cameras and take what happens.

    Thanks for commenting,

    Fran

  • Great music. I lived in Hawaii (Big Island, Hilo side) for a year. Two things I miss a lot are Slack Key Guitar and Lau Lau.

  • @phantom9498 Hi, Paul, where do you stay now? We get laulau here in Northern California sometimes for a special treat, but they are much better at that little plate lunch place in the shopping center by Hilo Hattie's on the way to the Hilo Airport.

  • @franguidry I'm In Phoenix now. There was a little place in Hilo (can't remember the name of it now) that I used to get Lau Lau. Boy do I miss it.

  • Beautiful music and video!

    Lee

  • Lee, thanks for the great historic stuff you've put up. Sonny on a Gretsch!!! Just watching his hands is a treat.

  • Awesome videography Fran! Playing aint too shabby either lol

  • Thanks so much, cc. Did you get some good holiday videos around your house?

    Fran

  • Fran, this is the best home brewed YouTube video I've ever seen! Seriously, great camera angles, great sound, and great playing. You've hit the nail on the head, most wonderfully. Do you have any other performances recorded from that night?

  • Thanks for the comment. My motto is "better to be lucky than good" and it certainly applies here. The camera angles were the ones I could find that kept the cams out of the way. The sound has a lot to do with the young man doing the mixing.

    The playing ... well, thanks.

I have more video from that evening but this was the only performance I could allow to escape. Please check my other vids, perhaps you'll find something you like.

    Thanks again,

    Fran

  • do you have the tabs and the tuning?!

  • Thanks for the reminder to mention the tuning. As usual for me, this is in "taropatch" or open G - low to high D G D G B D

I don't have tabs for any of my songs, sorry. I play something different every time anyway.

  • Wonderful music, Fran. The photography is really swell. Maybe you need to be a producer, too. Great film.

    Me ke aloha,

    Wanda

  • Wanda, as always thanks for watching and commenting. I'm soooo caught up in this video obsession that I only play guitar to have something to shoot (grin).

    Fran

  • Wow Fran! Absolutely wonderful performance. Great Nahenahe feel. Any your production is awesome. Thanks for your gifts that you share with us all.

  • Mike, you're too kind, especially about the performance. I may be having too much fun with video - I need to practice more instead.

    Stay well,

    Fran
