  • Mesmerizing… xo

  • duffy!

  • Superb drumming from both men, Hamp's playing is softer and more melodic here, but I think Duffy won that one.

  • Both are amazing!! I mean yeah... they're from different times and styles but they are so good that they both make something cool toghether.

  • Don't bash on Duffy, I know him personally and he and Lionel are best friends. They are equally amazing drummers and incredibly funny and inspiring men.

  • duffy is so white when he plays the drums... hampton has melody, taste, good time and music. Duffy's just chopping out without melody, taste, good time and music. The essential element is music. Duffy doesn't have any.

  • omg

  • I played with Duffy for a year. You should hear Duffy tell about the time he slipped out to the front of the stage and played Lionels vibes without permission!

  • 1:37 WTF

  • black guy keeps it simple but yet amazing

  • we all know why mr. jackson is backin up mr hamptons tune

  • saw this guy at WIU

  • This is cool! Saw this on one of my dads dvd's. Now I know who Duffy is, many thanx! Pity the whole solo isn't here, Duffy does one round at the end with a fill that I can't figure out!

  • Duffy Jackson is what Lionel Hampton often lacked in his later years... a musician in his band beyond being talented, but being equal to push him further than the normal routine.. which was still higher than with most band.

  • What is the lick Duffy plays at 1:31? A six stroke roll with 4 on the hands and 2 on the feet???

  • @Dannysuess Sir yes sir!

  • I love the way that Lionels is fairly simple yet instantly more effective.

  • Spot on!!!!!! Totally agree!

  • I played with Duffy and believe me with all the facial expressions and panting as some noted he could play his ass off!! He also can wail on the vibes. He is well known for his work with the Basie Band as well as Lionel. He played with Ellington when he was 12.

  • I never knew Hamp played drums like this - what a treat to see it. Met him in 1998 - right on!

  • I love Lionel's smooth style

  • 1:39

the guy in back looks so amazed.haha

  • Both great players, but Duffy reminds me of a panting dog ,with his facial expressions.Very slick drumming.

  • He is like that in real life to, very nice, and so funny, if you ever get a chance to get to know him, TAKE IT!!

  • they look like they are gettin a heart attack..

  • These guys are great, but Lionel is the smoothest. I always liked Lionel's big cheesin' smile that he always had on his face when he's playing,he makes it look so easy.

  • haha...I met duffy at a jazz clinic...the guy is a god

  • Lionel so cooollll and smooth, Duffy looks like he going to have a heart attack trying to keep up with Lionel. LOL Great Video!

  • Don't get me wrong, music is music and this my friends is good music, but as Duffy just lays it to the drums, it seems as if Hamp makes dem drums notes in exponential numbers. Damn It! I could swear that makes me smile just to be lowly witness to such greatness.

  • Duffy Jackson is my new drum heroe.Their faces said all.Good.

  • The contrast in styles makes this a very cool segment. Duffy is Ramming notes while Lionel is rockin a musical vibe (no pun intended). Both done well

  • Alright it's Duffy! I love the way he hits those skins man! You should hear him sing too!

  • ive gotten a chance to work with duffy, hes a huge insopration to many people, like myself

  • FUnny how Hamp destroys him. Duffy was trying too hard to show off... Strange because duffy is a perfect basie swing machine.
