when the witness said that dawn was sinking, i think this is what happened:

dawn accidentally slipped into the tank and got uncautious that's why she was sinking, tilly saw that she was sinking and pushed her up to the surface to take some air but tilly figured that it was not working so he started to push her around to keep her staying afloat so that she would not drown but it was too late and all this isnt tillys fault and he is innocent.

They watch their prey, deduce how to take it down and they sometimes play with their food. I think it was pissed at the woman and was playing with her, knowing full well it was killing her. One rendition is that she was on a platform rubbing him after a good show... another is that she was submerged in the water up to her shoulders when he pulled her under... but what bothers me the most is this woman was in excellent physical condition and health..with strong stamina and swim skills. I've watched the documentary film . . "The Cove" and am not surprised at this. . . .. although it is tragic. The whale cannot just be released, as it is domesticated and also will not be "punished" or killed. As that would be cruel and undeserved.

These are really intelligent creatures and the people who work with them know this could happen. But living your life in a small environment with few people that can be reached, perhaps it is just a whale "tantrum". Very sad for man and whale.

Wild animals belong in the wild. What you consider a good life in captivity for a wild animal might not be how the animal sees it. They didn't ask for chlorinated pools and audiences.
