  • I own a Deering banjo. I bought Deering (in 1991) because I wanted to learn and MAKE music - not be a collector, worrying about re-sale values or value. I also wanted a good, affordable AMERICAN made instrument, made by Americans. I found all of that and more in my Deering. Folks also may not be familiar with the fact that if it were not for the Deerings, Vega banjos might very well have been bought by foreign interests like so many other well thought of American brands & products.

  • Lol... Milk just shot out of my nose! You must be an employee/owner. You buy a deering and sell it the next day. You have lost HALF of your value. That is not the case with Gibson's. The Gibson banjo actually hold it's value. The reason is simple my friend. Tone and Quality! Tone and Quality = Gibson!

  • The Gibson banjo has a much better tone. Plus, it does not depreciate as much.

  • Not true about the Gibsons. The prewars were great but since the sixtes they have been terrible. Deerings have much better tone and since there are more of them, sure they don't have as high a resale rate as the slower selling Gibsons. But then Gibsons started out costing a lot more too.

  • didn't know about the scientology thing until now, still nice banjos
