  • Way too fast!

This is a slow incantation - that is the rhythm in which it is written. The change in the length and tone of words according to how they are combined is what distingushes poetry from prose.

To be honest, i´ve never understood what Americans are about when they write or think `poetry´.

  • Thank you Cross :) There is something about this poem that truly grabs me and holds me still for a time :)

  • Beautifully read.

  • This is a beautiful rendition of one of the most beautiful poems in the English language. The reader has a very nice accent.

  • to be honest I don't like it when women read poems most of the time.

However, this was really amazing. Your voice is very calm, your "timing" is very good and you also stress the words well.

5/5 for me, keep it up!

  • Very nicely read. My favourite poem!

  • nicely spoken:-) although somehow it feels as you've said it a bit too fast, it should be slower, more pauses, silences are good. well done!

  • Such a lovely job on such an epic poem. Yeats is amazing and if saw this he would be very happy. Love the color effect as well. A zillion stars

  • oh such sweet lesbo love!

  • A simply Amazing recital of a wonderful poem, I could listen to it over and over for hours.

The way I happened upon this poem is in its self an amazing story, but I shall not bore you with those details. I will inform you of the fact that many a time I have felt downtrodden by life and found some semblance of hope just by reading these lines.

  • I sang this to the music of Dunhill about 35 years ago. I wish I still had the tape (or could find it). The poem is beautiful, musical. And set to music it is even more so. Alas, the tape is missing, and my voice with it.

  • one of my all time favourite poems!!! beautiful!!

  • ah thats one of my top favourite poems

    5*

    ty

  • More Yeats Genius: When You Are Old When you are old and grey and full of sleep, And nodding by the fire, take down this book, And slowly read, and dream of the soft look Your eyes had once, and of their shadows deep; How many loved your moments of glad grace, And loved your beauty with love false or true, But one man loved the pilgrim soul in you, And loved the sorrows of your changing face... Thanks to everyone! It is a pleasure to connect with other people that like poems.
  • That is another brilliant poem by Yeats! Thank you for posting it Brian! =)

  • I am becoming a Yeat's fan. O dear. I am trying to avoid it ... but well, how can I not admire his work. Rhythmic prose, yet so natural, vivacious ... spontaneity. Thought provoking ... I can't type. It just breathes ... it is magic.

  • He has had quite the same effect on me! It was this poem of his that first reached me, it hung on and did not release me. Now I am beginning to discover and enjoy his other writings =)

  • You have really good diction and pace when u read....some i have a bit of an issue with when i read my poetry. I post vids of me reciting my stuff on here. if you could check them out, and give me ur opinions and maybe a few tips cuz you have very good presentation. i'd really apreciate it!

  • Thank you Gabriel! I look forward to watching some of your own poetry =)

  • By far my fave of yours. You have an excellent voice and tell these poems very well. Have you ever taken Poetry Classes before? I did a few years during highschool but my teacher said I was to impatient with my time to be a real true poet but have had 5 poems published shows how much some people actually know. Well done!

  • Thank you John Paul! =) I haven't taken any poetry classes before but I used to write poetry a few years ago and think I may take it up again. The works of Poe and Yeats really got me interested in poetry ;) Well done on your poetry success! It definitely proves that what people think of us has nothing to do with how much we will achieve =)

  • my fav from Yeats also, but tainted as it has been used in Equilibrium.

you read it too fast. If you read poetry you have to taste it and savor it for everything it is. pronounced pauses can fill a poem with meaning. as a hint, you don't READ poems with lightning speed either, you slowly ponder along the lines.

  • It was through that film I found this poem, so I am grateful for that ;)

And from an earlier reply from me to a similar comment: "I do agree that the speed of the poem could be slowed down, although I find I quite enjoy it read at this speed. Often I hear poems read with so many pauses that the audience loses the first part of the sentence and the words become less meaningful. However, pauses used skillfully add greatly to a reading, and that is what I definitely still have to learn ;)"

  • a hand in silence

    holding just a rose

    in these stone streets

    echoes of a promise

    blown in on the wind

    leaving none behind

    overpowering our lives

    our hearts throb

to its music and we are

    there is a prayer

  • beautiful =)

  • this poem is butiful and deep i love it...:)

  • aww thank you! =)

  • absolutely lovely, the way you say your words. what a natural you are. wow

  • Thank you so much godlypoet! =)

  • my favorite from yeats.

    Thank You!

  • Definitely mine too ;) Thanks custerkilla!

  • i still feel more comfortable i keep on seeing if i watch a diffrent video by you to see if i feel diff

  • Hi Jen, I'm getting caught up on video watching this morning (or trying to). I love this poem and the way you read it. Yeats is a favorite of mine. Be well, hope you are recovering from the wisdom teeth extraction. I had 3 done at once when mine were removed, I still remember the pain!

  • Thanks Debbie! The operation went well, just relying on the pain relief meds at the moment, hehe, hope to be better in another day or so =)

  • Umm... that's something I've never seen before... using the comment streams for communication to people you DO know... cool... but thanks for posting the vids. These are all really interesting.

  • Thanks master6of6omens6! Most of the people on YouTube I first get to know through these comment sections =) It is a fun form of connecting with people ^^

  • sounds more fun than myspace. people look really dumb refreshing the page continuously lol

  • Beautiful poem! You have a lovely voice, too!

    ;-)

  • Thank you Fabiana! =)

  • Raven, This poem touches my heart in a way I can only share with you over coffee. I perceive you take great care in selecting your readings. Let me return the favor with something from John Burrough that suits you;

"I still find each day too short for all the thoughts I want to think, all the walks I want to take, all the books I want to read, and all the friends I wand to see". Have a great one today!

    Sal Sanchez

    Salinas, California

  • Thank you Sal! That is a wonderful quote from Burrough! I definitely relate to it ;)

  • I wish I had your delivery! 5*

  • Thank you David! =)

  • Oh la la, I really liked the descriptiveness of the quote, and how you emphasized it visually with the different hues. Normally if I heard the quote, I might be bored, but with your visual stimulation you made it much more interesting. You are very good at doing that, my well-versed friend. ;)

  • I'm glad my colour trick worked, hehe! ;)

  • I don't read much poetry, but i love this one, and remember it from the film.

  • Yes, this one really stuck with me ;)

  • I remember listening to this one on equilibrium. Sean Bean (boromir from LOTR but you already know that) read that poem in the film...His character had a pretty short part , but the guy always makes memorable appearances.

  • That is where I first heard this poem too, I really like that film =) And I agree about Sean Bean - he most often makes small cameos appearances in films but his parts are often the most memorable.

  • Wow ... beautifully done!

  • Thank you Brian! =)

  • That is one of my favourite poems as well. You have great taste, Jen! (c;

Your delivery was so much better than mine, though. I even made mistakes. Should I ever find that video, I'll show you.

  • Thank you Andreas! =) I think I added an extra 'the' in the poem somewhere too, hehe, I'm not used to having to memorising anything but declensions and vocab lists these days!

  • Ah, I see you found it on your own.

    My delivery wasn't as colourful as yours, though. (c;

  • It appeared in the related videos for me, hehe, so I did not need to use my powerful detective skills, lol ;)

  • Pretty! The added colors were a nice touch. ;)

  • Thanks Ash! =)

  • Whoa... It's like this vid was shot at the calmest rave ever...

Cool poem. Thanks for sharing Jenny. :-)

  • I wonder if I showed them the colourful lights they would agree to mix this poem into their DJ routine, hehe...

    Thanks Charly and Josh! =)

  • that was really nice, and the colour changes worked really well :D

  • Thanks Lydia! I think sometimes it is these shorter poems that are the most powerful =)

  • Aaa, that was so touching!

Beautiful (and I think that it also has a little bit of romance) =D

  • Thanks Fabian! And it certainly does =)

  • Beautiful.

I didn't understand the colour changes until about the 3rd runthrough. (and there were loads more)

  • hehe, thanks Michael ;) I had to change a few of the shades from what I originally intended because of how dark or light they made the screen.

  • Nicely read, I kind of like The Wild Swans At Coole - I think it gives me a feeling I remember for other days...

  • Thanks David! I don't think I've read that one, I'll have a look at it online =)

  • More! More ! More!

  • hehe, I'm a YouTube addict, more will certainly be on its way =)

  • Very nice Jen! I liked the shades of light. Fit well with the recital.

  • Thanks John! I had fun doing the colours, hehe ^^

  • Very lovely, Jennifer.

    ~Megan

  • Thanks Megan!!

  • very nice :) lovely and well recited! keep it up :D

  • Thank you Rov! =)

  • I didn't know the name of that poem, but my mum used to tell it to me, because it's her favourite poem. :) I like what you did with the lighting as well!

  • Thanks Jennifer! It's a beautiful poem, the first time I heard it was in a movie =)

  • im a bit of a snazzey dresser meself on sundays as you mitre known.xx

  • certainly! ;)

  • Your readings are always beautifully done. Yet, I would like to hear more of your original work. ;-) I know, I'm demanding for a fan. LOL

  • hehe, I have to braver to put my own compositions up, but I do plan to =) Thanks Keith!

  • i love it

  • Thanks Brendan! =)

  • Slow down... do not read the printed words... behold, taste, contemplate--and foremost, allow your self to be emotionally moved by--the images in mind conjured by the words.. .

"Had I the heavens... embroidered clothes,...

Enwrought with... golden and silver light,...

The blue... and the dim... and the dark clothes,...

It's not a shopping list what Yeats was concocting, but the movement within of experiences captured in images.

  • This is the first poetry reading I have done in which I did not read off the screen but rather spent time memorising the poem first ;)

I do agree that the speed of the poem could be slowed down, although I find I quite enjoy it read at this speed. Often I hear poems read with so many pauses that the audience loses the first part of the sentence and the words become less meaningful. However, pauses used skillfully add greatly to a reading, and that is what I definitely still have to learn ;)

  • Very kind of you to reply. You are a love. Thank you. And thank you for your art.

  • You are most welcome! Thanks for taking the time to watch my videos =)

  • Jennifer this is brilliant! Love what u did with the colours!

  • Thanks jchaitube! =)

  • Oh, my! I heard this recited a few days ago by a magnificent orator at a birthday party for a friend. Serendipity strikes again,

  • That would have been wonderful to hear! =)

  • Jennifer,

I meant to say you recite it beautifully, too!

  • Beautiful as ever Jennifer. What can I say... 5 stars.

  • Thank you Eddy!! =)

  • Mm, I haven't heard/ read that one before. I do like. :)

  • It was this poem and Poe's 'The Raven' that introduced me to poetry =)

  • Well those are a pretty good place to start! :)

I've been considering doing a reading myself but I haven't settled on a poem to read yet. I'm more comfortable singing than doing a reading, but it's fun to step out of the comfort zone once in a while!

Great reading Jennifer, and your literal and interpretive choices of colour add an extra dimension.

  • Thanks Steve! A poetry reading by you would be wonderful! Your singing is brilliant! =)

  • A beautiful poem.. you're broadening my mind! :)

  • Thanks Rob! I think it is doing something to my mind too, although I'm not quite sure what, lol

  • very nice! i love the idea with the colors!

  • Thanks Ralf! I had fun turning different colours ^^

  • Its not poetry about Sweet Bertha, but I like it:)******

  • Yet another example of your creative brillance! *5 Stars* :)

  • Thank you Dale! =)

  • Lovely piece, well delivered. Love the colours that change according to rhythm. Forgot to say I loved the lightning in your other video as well!

  • Thank you janeczka! I had fun playing with the different lighting in the other video =)

  • That was beautiful Jennifer!

  • thanks Aaron!

  • You remind me of a Calumma parsonii, changes color to whatever it steps onto. I love the poetry as well. :)

  • I change colour too depending on what I step into.. If I step into dogpoo, I tend to go purple and red.. :)

  • Color + smell change. :p

  • Alex.. Oh hello.. I remember you! Something to do with hair.. :) :) I think I owe you an e-mail.. was going to mail you today actually, but I had trouble with YT and had to make a video about that instead.. :) :)

  • It's all poetry ;)

  • Em.. Some is pottery.. :)

  • very true, hehe..

  • Thanks EmC! hehe, I did feel a bit like a chameleon..
