My sister, Nicole Engdahl, won homecoming queen this year at Arlington High School in Arlington, Nebraska. She also has downs. Shows how people are these days!
My son will be 4 in December. He has Downs. This video brought on major tears. These kids are amazing. People should give them a chance before casting their judgment. Kudos to this town, and especially to the students at this school!!!
What a cool video. So great to see people who have Downs being fully accepted and fully included in their communities. No need to shun such incredibly loving people who are brilliant in their own sense. Stop the stigma!
I have twin sisters whi both have severe downs they are only 5monts old and i like these videos especially this one so i can look forward too many years of joy. Well done christin you look amazing i hopr my sisters turn out like you ;) Xx
@shopiholic14 how do you know that they have severe downs at such a young age? my daughter is 5 months & we know that she has downs syndrome but all the doctors have told us that it is impossible to know whether a person has mild, moderate, or severe down syndrome until they are older & have the opportunity to develop more. you have to watch how they develop first before you put that label on their level of severity & 5 months of age is hardly enough time to tell.
My 8 month old son has Down syndrome, and I'm always in need of supportive friends. "Eye on Isaac (Genetically Enhanced w/ Down Syndrome)" on Facebook
Awesome man, why cant more people be like those in your school. I can tell ya, this shit wouldnt have happened at my school. Slower or less fortunate kids were made fun of treated poorly in my school. Like did you see the two semi-attractive girls that were at her house and seemed like they were friends with the girl. THAT is what im sayin. Girls like that in my school would have acted like it would've dulled their image. I hate to say it, but it makes me wander if these girls didnt become
How inspirational! I too need a tissue now... May my little granddaughter, Mia (in Florida) who is now 9 months old, also join such a great school as Aledo and experience such joy one day... I applaud you Aledo - here from south Africa !!
That is sooo inspiring. Way to go Aledo!! Your teens out there know what true beauty is, and thats whats on the inside, how someone makes other people feel. they have the right idea, hopefully kids will look at this and take a note or two about how to treat people
our homecoming queen, Jan, also had down syndrome. i didn't vote for her because i had this weird idea about "if she wants to be treated equally then we can't vote her just because she has down syndrome, blah blah blah." urg my hs self is dumb. well, when i'm wrong i'm wrong, and i'm very happy for Jan, and Kristin too! congrats! WOOT
i want to work as a camp counsler at a down syndrome summer camp but sadly im not 18 i hate the stupid laws of the world even if you are trying to help people ant the world
@Nova477 I agree with you 100%. I've been around people who have different disabillities and a lot of them are the sweetest people I will ever meet. (Plus I have 2 brothers with disabilites and mental retardation with Autism.)
Everyone deserves to be happy, not matter what they were born with.
This is one of the most touching stories I have ever seen. It is good to see that there arent as many cruel people as we think there are in this world. I couldnt stop crying for the happiness and how proud the parents have felt for I myself am a mom and sensitive to my childrens progress...
I personally don't believe in disibilaties because when you say that you'll treat that person differently. My heart truley goes out to Kristen! HURRAY!!!!!

I am so glad that I have made such a great friend like Krisitn. Everyday she sees me, she makes it a point to make sure I am ok, and I love that about her.
this was so beautiful, this is really inspiring, and it is true what her sister said, that everyone should be treated the same, but that is funny that she hasent taken her crown off, and if i were her, i wouldnt either, cause that something really to remember, especially her.
i have a sister with down syndrome and this story is just an amazing one to hear about. I'm glad that people are realizing that everyone is the same in one way or another. =]]
This was so sweet. I was at the football game with my friends in the stands when this happened. Everyone was sooooo happy. She really did deserve this, she so cool to hang out with,... and ahmen to what her friends say, people need to open they're eyes and see that every one is the same and that you should treat them the same way. Kirstin is loved by everyone in our town, and she should be, she's so awesome and I'm so glad that she was named homecoming queen.
she damn deserved it! way better than the usual girls who win it, its a popularity contest instead of a contest to show the best students in other schools. it is the person inside who wins, not on the outside. her classmates saw this so everyone is a winner for looking in there hearts to the for the best spirited girl in the school.
