Even if he didn't blow out his knee, he wasn't going to the NFL anyways, probably wouldn't have played much in college either. He was only 5'11" 195lbs, maybe at 6'1" 205'bs + he could have been somebody. He ran a 4.5 40yd, fast, but not not for a solid tail back.

This was 20 years ago. Players weren't as big or as fast as they are now. Plus, he was only 18, he could have packed on a few more pounds in the subsequent years. Walter Payton wasn't any bigger and he was probably slower. Not saying he would have been anywhere near as good as Walter, but just saying that his size/speed were adequate.

I can rattle off a a hand full of sub 6' backs that run low 4.5 40 times and have had great starts, some careers in the NFL. Ladainain Tomlinson left college running a 4.5+ 40yd dash. And he didnt bring that time lower until he started training for the NFL combine. Everyone isn't going to be a prototype tail back.

You know the film wasn't really following the true story... The real boobie wasn't all that bad of a guy just a little dumb.. in real life his knee was damaged before the season even began and he had surgery before the first game of the season. He had banked everything becoming a pro and lost his career in a meaningless scrimage.. very sad story
