  • having learned that karen carpenter at age 22 had at least 5 top 40 hits, as a music lover you have to respect that And I do..In hindsight she was pretty talented.

  • Karen Carpenter was the best - great natural, unforced notes - unlike pretenders like Mariah Carey and Whitney Houston.

  • @chiero57 what notes do Mariah and Whitney pretend? Having different singing style makes them pretenders?

  • I will ALWAYS love this song. " Don't you remember...........". love this so much. Thanks for sharing!!

  • it is amazing and oh so far away....

  • sonic youth brought me to this amazing song!

  • Ghostrider anyone?.

  • why is this song soo amaZing but then when sonic youth does it..it sounds like a whole other fucking awesome..grrrr

  • she's an icon

  • insiders say.. this tune was written about.. eric clapton... in late 1969

  • @Ezwider109 it may have been, but not by Karen..a few others recorded the song first, but the Carpenters made it a hit :)

  • @Ezwider109 ..I heard this song was written for Rita Coolage to sing..when she was with "Mad dogs & the Engilsh Men" Joe Cocker..Leon Russel

  • is it me or have The Carpenters been likened to elevator music? I could've sworn hearing people say this group was lame. I hear a powerful voice that evokes a lot of feeling.

  • essa musica é trilha sonora da minha infancia...quantas saudades.

  • R.I.P Chris Farley

  • good ol tommy boy

  • Beautiful, such a shame she died so young and had so much talent

    R.I.P Karen Carpenter

  • she soundzmuch purer than today's white girlzzzz!!!

  • i heard it from ghost rider and i love it..especially the opening of this song,,

  • Sure am glad they sold those half a million break pads *phew*

  • Thank you so much for posting this. Never knew the title even though it was always such a favorite.Took me an hour to locate! Real music.

  • timeless.

  • I know a lot of folk who going wild over this song.Mina here is no exception.

  • juno......

  • The voice of an Angel.....

  • Took me 2 days to find this YES!:)

  • im a black man. once upon a time i fell in love with a beautiful woman who listened to all such music in this artist. so now, it warms my spirit to listen once again. i will always love you callie. my little tomatoe. big daddy$

  • Didn't the Carpenters do a James Bond song? Because this sounds an awful lot like one.

  • @50percentGrey i think this sounds like 'The world is not enough'

  • A great early 70s tune from the great So-Cal tunemasters of that time. Will we capture those days again with musical tastes changing so much from that time? Probably not, but friends, let us revel in this golden piece of nostalgia.

  • Beautiful song. Anyone who doesn't like this song must be playing Solitaire!

  • 11 people never been told they were loved

  • This isn't my kind of music , but that voice captivates you. INCREDIBLE!!

  • Don't step on Karen ;)

  • So many disappointing comments on this video.

  • @nrg13nrg So true :/

  • Typed "superstar" in the search bar, and neither The Carpenters or Sonic Youth came up...Man...That's just sad....

  • @lookintothesun007 Yeah, it really is..youtube search engine has gone to pot since google took over :( You can type some things in exactly as they're listed and they're not even on the first page of results you get. It's reeeeally awful and time they fixed it!

  • dude tis is sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo ugly. or maybe nice

  • Wow what an amazing voice!! Pitch perfect............Karen's singing gives me goosebumps.

  • the sonic youth cover is terrifying but still good

  • chris farley & david spade <333333333 david spade has still yet to come close to the peak he was at with Tommy Boy and Black Sheep

  • This song makes me so sad for some reason D':

But I heard a version of this of a guy singing- was it Richard?Or did someone else sing a version of this song?

  • @Traumer17 Sonic Youth did a cover of this. like in the 90's. (comment to guy singing),

  • lynz way brought me here~

  • Gerard sings this to Lyn-z :')

  • mayne dis motha fuckn song go off real talk

  • What I guess "SUPER STAR" this song has become one of Karan's master pieces where she were forever singing her heart cried out or may be an angel's voice indulging its music. Those were her flavorite, and still now I can hear a classic song from her here. As an angel, the forever singer is the one that Karan's defined. So beautiul yet so sad! Thanks for posting....

  • this is definitely how an angel sounds when it sings. karen carpenter was talent on loan from Almighty God

  • this song needs to have tommy boy song or tommy boy car song in the title so people like me can find it :)

  • is it sad that me and my friend used to laugh at this sing..we were 11

  • thumbs up if Tommy Boy brought you here

  • @eighttrack70 Ghostrider brought me here

  • well tommy boy did not bring me here, my love for karen carpenter brought me here. i mean dont you just love her voice?

  • @JimboSlice114 There are few voices in history as fine as Karen's.

  • @madamerotten thats obviously not my point, there are far too many stars out there that compare or are even compare to karen. please reread my comment ;)

  • @JimboSlice114 I reread your original comment, and can"t tell why you are complaining about my response. So, while you think you're being clear, I don't think you are. Furthermore, judging from your sentence construction, I conclude that either English is not your primary language, or that you made a typographic error.

  • @madamerotten madamerotten, i was fucking with you

  • @JimboSlice114 Okay, I'm sorry.

  • @eighttrack70

tommy boy ? man, Karen brought me here and her amazing voice ;)

  • I heard Lex Luthor and Green Goblin sing this while they were high

    is that weird

  • @PrivatePikachu1 Yeah, that's what brought me here.

I ROFL the first time I saw that.

  • This is what an angels voice sounds like <3

  • i love it

  • What a great song! but every time I hear it, it reminds me of the movie Tommy Boy, LOL....

  • An excellant song that deserved to be #1 but only made it to #2. Go figure

  • perfect song!!! i love it!!

  • Sad song! RIP Karen

  • Wow, this is great quality sound. Nice to hear this original version from the LP "Carpenters" on YT. No extra reverb, pumped up bass drum or fake Kutzweil horn section on this track.

My fav Carpenters song... Karen's voice was beyond incredible.

  • @JP5466 If I buy the remastered cd, will I get this version?

  • @AORMETALGORE To be honest, I am not sure. Richard has dabbled with so many of the original recordings and they did not need it.. Being a purist, I am not happy about what Richard has done.

When I bought the remastered "Carpenters" on CD ten years ago, it was this version. Check Ebay.

You could always listen to the orginal wax if you have a turntable. Heck, I still have all my cassette tapes of all the Carpenters records -lol

  • ♪♫♥ !

  • One of my favorite songs by the carpenters. Trivia: the lyrics were changed a tad. Karen refused the sing the original line "and I can hardly wait just to sleep with you again", so Richard changed the lyric to what you hear to fit in with Karen's more clean-cut image. On the Bette Midler rendition, she does the original line.

  • Hahahahaha Justin Bieber ripped The Carpenters off!!!

  • This song was done in one take...amazing...such a very talented singer...amazing!!!

  • Don't you remember you told me

  • they wont play it on the radio becouse monsters are controlling the airways now

  • How can anyone NOT like The Carpenters?!?!?!?!?

  • richard do i have a mark on my face?

  • did anybody hear this on tommy boy and have it stuck in there head

  • @The166899 Yes...heard it on Tommy Boy and it has been stuck in my head for 16 years...ugh.

  • Gonna learn the lyrics to sing on ROAD TRIPS

  • Comment removed

  • Superstar from the CARPENTERS- for me one of the best songs ever!

  • "wow talk about lame!"

    "haha totally"

"You can change it if you want"

"I can live with it if you can"

    "Suit yourself"

DON'T YOU REMEMBER YOU TOLD ME YOU LOVED ME BABY!

  • @sweetdeal68 what's that from?

  • @DoctorYumYums Tommy Boy. Come on now. It's a classic!!

  • @sweetdeal68 I WAS JUST LAUGHING ABOUT THAT SCENE TODAY AS I HEARD THIS SONG! THANKS!

  • @sweetdeal68 I love Tommy Boy

  • @Scoonertuna Uh, Johhny Hanel said that..

  • I wish they would play this song on the radio :(

I haven't heard it for all these years until I recently watched an old movie

  • some people never understand how much they are loved... i had two wondeerful cousins that couldn't see it. in everyone's eyes, they were such beautiful people. they chose the twelve guage as their doorway out. a few years apart, not at the same time. one was only eighteen...

  • She suffered from anorexia

  • @theboss19191 And a broken heart.

  • sonic youth has nothing on this!!!

  • thank you for posting this great song and talent. an idiot with his words killed her

  • Thank you for posting MrRenaissance! Brings me back to a long ago and forgotten place!

  • @doilooklikeicare3 It's depends what you're Into.If you're Into migraines then It's better. Please don't attack me because of my comment. I admit It was tasteless and crude , I rebuke myself for It. Shame on me.

fool me once, shame on — shame on you. Fool me — you can't get fooled again

  • sonic youth cover is better ;)

  • This song scares me. D=

  • loved how on my 8 track of the Best of the Carpenters it went from this song into Rainy Days and Mondays...

  • ANGEL !!!!!!

  • @walleyrt69 yes, the voice of an angel, not sure why this person couldn't put up a photo/s of Karen.. may she RIP

  • 7 people aren't superstars. Thumbs up if you're one, that ♥s this song :)

  • you guys think this is good you should listen to Justin bieber...now if that made you mad you know good music

  • I LOVE ITT, I LOVE ITT, I LOVE IT!!<33

  • All these new singers just SUCK! I can not even listen to them for 1 minute! Just garbage. Back in the 70's and 80's we had SO MANY TALENTED PEOPLE SINGING!

  • TOMMY BOY.

  • This song still has a way of making me tear up, the way Karen could sing, it just tore right into your soul. Bless the Beast and the Children is another amazing song.

  • I love this song it is tied for my number one carpenters song. Karen had the most amazing Alto singing voice.

  • it feels like the same scene is going on in present with me.....such a divine voice.....i don't know any other word to define this but WOW...WOW....& WOW

  • Get the audio from this track at soundnabber doht cohm.

  • @SybillaMenninger176 why not just liusten to it on 45 vinyl?

  • tommy boy.

  • This was one of those songs that should have been #1. It is my 3rd

favorite song of all time behind Fleetwood Mac's" Dreams" & Moody

Blues" Nights In White Satin". A beautiful voice that left us too soon

  • Beautiful, effortless singing..........Karen is clearly one of the greatest singers of all time!!

  • Those were the days when a singer was required to really really sing. Today, a good singer needs to have 3 points: an atractive shape, sing "open-minded garbage" and be crazzy.

  • i love this song sooooooooo much i feel her pain

  • Her voice makes me want to weep. Something about her saying "Baby" over and over is more comforting than listening to fuck face justin beiber :} i want the 80's back :/

  • @r1bryandamnit No, he shouldn't. Just no. Justin Biebers a fuck face.

  • @r1bryandamnit Justin Bieber should stick his head down a toilet and put it on continual flush

  • @bobalobs1 Ever so true! I'll have to remember this comment, absolutely one of the BEST I've seen.

  • @bobalobs1 I was thinking of just putting in a wood chipper so that way he feels pain and he gets killed, oh P.S he'll feel a lot of pain since we're gonna put him in feet first

  • @bobalobs1 stop complain that stupid. It does not deserve to compare to Karen

  • @bobalobs1 So bloody true!!!!

  • written by LEON RUSSELL check out THE UNION Latest from leon and ELTON JOHN

  • GREAT GREAT TUNE

  • awww, this is the song gee sings to lynz when she gets sad....

    *tear*

  • Wondering if she sang this song about someone in particular who played guitar. Maybe, Cat Stevens, James Taylor, or Paul McCartney ...................? Doubtful it was Dylan.

  • @pt8648 Karen didn't write this song.

  • Comment removed

  • @dsfddsgh Thanks, however, 'wondering if she sang this song about someone', not if she wrote it.

  • @pt8648 I think this was just Karen being able to take a song and make it her own. She never needed to scream like a banshee in heat to put a song over with emotion like these lame singers today do like Christina aguilera or the Queen of scream Mariah Carey.

  • @dsfddsgh Lol......so true. Long live Karen's voice.

  • Talk about lame...

Haha totally... You can change it if you want.

I don't care its up to you.

I can live with it if you can.

    Suit yourself!

DONT YOU REMEMBER YOU TOLD ME YOU LOVED ME BAAAABY!!!!

YOU SAID YOU'D BE COMING BACK THIS WAY AGAIN BAAAAABY!!!!!

BAAABY BAAABY BAAAABY OHHHHHH BAAAABY!!! I LOOOVE YOOOU!

Am I the only one that thinks of tommy boy when i hear this??

  • @Dhizzlefizzle

me too. . . me too. . . RIP Farley.

  • @Dhizzlefizzle Heck yeah

  • This is my favorite of all the songs by The Carpenters.

  • a song written by leon russell, the carpenters made it a hit...then luther vandross came along years later and also made it a hit, prove a good song is a good song, no matter who sings it...

  • i heard this on juno <3

  • My music of choice is heavy metal... Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, etc. But I cannot lie and say this woman's voice was not the best female voice EVER. Her lyrics and highs and lows sung are breathtaking. Such a senseless loss when she passed. I can only imagine what music she would have put out..

  • @cncdolphins I agree, Dolph, her talent and voice are timeless. So sad that she left us so soon. She couldn't possibly have known how many people her music would touch.

  • Written by Leon Russell, whom people didn't know who he was at the time, Karen indeed is in God's choir..

  • I don't know many songs of Carpenters but all songs I know r great!! I like the begining of this song "♪Long ago ... I fell in luv with u...(during) the 2nd show... ur voice it's sounds so sweet & clear...♪": a bit different but I fell in luv with a sperstar @ a (not radio but dinner live)show^^;

  • I love to freak my friends out when they hear this song and recognize the lyrics. The Carpenters rock! RIP Karen and Luther.

  • We miss you Karen!!!

  • Your 6strings guitar...it sounds so sweet and clear

  • Karen Carpenter had on of the most amazing voice, what a blessing.

  • this is good, but i must say, i like Sonic Youth's cover better. They add a bit more darkness to the song

  • TOMMYBOY!!!

  • @jwalker2100 im watching that right now hahaha

  • @greenchicken19 little coat

  • This song always had a haunting feel to it.

  • vote up if u just searched this because of tommy boy

  • Im in love this song. ♥

  • When I finished reading a biography of Karen's life and listened to this song, I couldn't help but weep profusely. Is that unusual?

  • @lukaspukas1 What was it called?

  • isnt this the song tommy and richard sing/cry to in the car ride?

  • @ghtaekwondo ya on tommy boy

  • she died a whie before I was even born so idk how but i am a huge fan

  • @sampleswoman

    nobody cares

  • Tommy Boy!

  • Not many have said. I love you" Karen' Thats OK, cause I will say I love you a Thousand times.........

  • Great song :)

  • Song written by Tulsa, Oklahoma native Leon Russell.

  • ctjazzking... if your a " ROCKER " and love rock music... and you find this song

DEPRESSING? then why were you visiting this particular site to begin with.

also you spell the word "WHICH" with an i, NOT A U. consider a C.T. of cranium

area. they might find something... or then again, THEY MAY FIND NOTHING AT

    ALL.

  • @jdommer46 Um...because rockers like to be depressed?

  • @jdommer46 You corrected someone's spelling. I would like to point out the second word of your post is incorrect. you're is a contraction and means you are. your is a possessive and means your, as in belonging to you.
