"This is the longest foreplay I've ever experienced... A year of just getting to know you" Well God knows how difficult it must have been for Laura, I mean, look at that man!!
love this scene..torn between what you know is the right thing to do and what you want to do, to give into feelings of love and saying fuck it all....intense and magnetic
I think it's good that we see an irishman as kind and gentle and a psychotherapist. It's a great leap forward for the representations of Irish men in film and television. I'm an Irishman too, a gentle one. And that's a good thing. Thanks for noticing Gabriel's work.
Everyone goes on and on about Gabriel Byrne. I agree that he is good. But in all honesty, I probably wouldn't have gotten into this show if it weren't for Melissa George (Laura). She is unbelievably gorgeous...and talented as well. I also think Blair Underwood (Alex) and the actress that plays Byrnes wife put on an acting clinic in a couple of episodes.
entity3sf, I'm more interested in the question of whether this show takes a stance on therapy. I suspect it does and my suspiscion is that it in anti-therapy. I don't want to go on but would love to hear what you or anyone interested in the topic has to say.
I believe the depiction here definitely asks questions about boundaries. Most therapists have held feelings for clients. That I believe.
Melissa George, the perfect woman, presents the perfect argument why he should love her physically and break this boundary.
He admits to her he is in love with her and he is. His love presents the ultimate dilemma; consummating this love would ultimately prove to her that no relationship can be trusted, & etc, etc.
I love how he handles situations. How he stays so stable and yet.. On the inside he's screaming to get out. It makes you want it more. Him, more. Maybe he portrays his true self through his character.. Frightened by his own emotional response to people. Building walls. People are begging to tear them down. And yet, he's left standing there alone because he's too scared to let them in. Real life persona? Possibly.
@wandaroo love this scene 2..torn between what you know is the right thing to do and what you want to do, to give into feelings of love and saying fuck it all....intense and magnetic

Melissa George is a fantastic actress and she is gorgeous.
Gabriel Bryne is magnetic and I'm so glad I am seeing him as the great actor he is. And he's Irish. That's a good thing.

This is killing me. And to think Gabriel Byrne might have become a priest.
Maybe that would bump up the numbers at Mass.

The show is awesome and Byrne is incredible. I don't think the show has interest to a wide audience.

Dramatically, the most loving thing he can do for her is to be honest, respect the boundaries, and end the relationship.
