I often see the tigerfish called "piranha"...is kind of what happened with the european dogs in the same region of origin of the word piranha( the guarani lands).

The guaranis called Yaguar ( big carnivore) the Jaguar, so when the conquistadores brought big dogs to America the guaranis had to rename the jaguar: yaguar-ete (real jaguar ) to differentiate it from other "yaguars"
