I've just listened ot the Eva Lind version of this meaningless piece of musical twirling. The miming did not convince and her simpering mouthing was rather sugary. Come on now, it is a shallow, highly contrived piece piece of music . One has the feeling it was written as a commercial exercise for the coronation to make us all feel terribly British. I've not heard it for 20 plus years and don't mind if the interlude lasts another twenty years
I'm from Cape toen South Africa and our lingo has a similar comprehension of most low-german tongues- I make it my business to get to grips with them in song. I'm constantly enthralled at all german singing esp when in their respective dialects which one can often NOT understand !
der Text ist in der ersten Strophe leider falsch...
Eva lind singt:
"Hör mein Lied, Elisabeth
Von der alten Allee
klingt hin es zum See..."
nur so als kleine Verbesserung gedacht! ;o)
I think the best known rendition of this lovely piece would have to be by Ron Goodwin and his orchestra. Certainly that is the one I grew up with. I think Mantovani also made it one of his favourite pieces which is highly probable as Binge arranged a number of pieces for him. I had never heard lyrics put to the tune until I stumbled across this piece sung by Eva Lind.
Great to hear from you MartinHH1953. Your profile says your 56. Just the right age for a massive cerebral aneurysm. Keep that blood pressure up buddy. We live in hope. YOU PRICK..
Elizabethan Serenade was composed by Ronald Binge in 1951. Binge (15 July 1910, Derby 6 September 1979, Ringwood, Hampshire) was a British composer and arranger of light music. He died of liver cancer in 1979, aged 69.
I'm back. I cannot control myself. You cannot begin to understand how it makes my blut - sorry, blood - boil, to hear this Goddamn Nazi Kraut bitch mutilate a beautiful ENGLISH song, written by a WONDERFUL ENGLISHMAN who served in the Royal Air Force (RAF) during World War 2.
Yes you Kraut bastards, this is the same World War, and the same RAF, which saw the destruction of Dresden and othere German cities by Bomber Command under the command of Air Marshal "Bomber" Harris.
Come Martin, this won't do. I'm English too and proud of our WW2 achievements (before my time), but thats irrelvant to the singing of this song. Eva Lind is Austrian, born in Innsbruck in 1965, 20 years after the Nazi capitulation - yes, Austria was occupied by the Nazis. She has had a distinguished career as a vocalist and is highly respected internationally.
BTW you haven't said who you think wrote this song. I cant find it definitely on the web, I thought it was Gunther Kallmann himself.
statt dass du stolz bist, dass diese schöne musik des wunderbaren englischen luftkämpfers sogar in einem naziland bewundert wird. übrigens: der text stammt nicht von ihm. ;-)
First two verses (approximate translation): Hear my song, Elisabeth From the old alley It sounds across the lake And from every tree It sounds like a dream Elisabeth Hear my song, Elisabeth Through the old alley Across the lake And whisperings full of the happiness Of magic (enchanted) music Elisabeth
At Christmas time we sing "Silent Night! How many times have you heard "Lilli Marlene"? These are German songs sung all over the UK.
A word of warning, you can find yourself in very serious trouble by your use of racist comments on You -tube. Any thing you say is there for all to see, including the police. Think of the consequences!!!
Martin I forgot to include cirrhosis of the liver to that list as it's apparent that you are a mean drunk. Lay off the booze and the delirium should clear up. While there's no cure for inbreeding of which you are a victim, you can try lithium which should curb your disorder. If that doesn't work may I suggest a prefrontal lobotomy?
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
You can remove my comments all you like, but the fact remains that she is a German and as such has no right to sing a song written by a quintessential Englishman. No - delete German - insert damn Kraut. And the only good Kraut is a dead one.
And listen igel10 - I do NOT have psychiatric problems.
MartinHH1953 youre a bigoted bastard. What century are you living in ? Music is not an item of national ownership but a joy to be shared by all, particularly when sung with such beauty and grace. Go post your obnoxious comments somewhere else. Prick !!!!!!!!!!!!!
In my opinion, I find MartinHH1953's comment about Eva Lind to be most disgusting. Being an American, I believe you still have issues with the German people which you need to resolve. Eva Lind has the MOST BEAUTIFUL VOICE I have ever heard and I rate this video as OUTSTANDING and SUPERIOR in all regards.
^^ did you know what nazi meens? there are nazi's all over the world. damn stupid national rasitical bastards. when I see one on the street, he gets a very big asskick with best wishes from an international girl...me!
My dear Martin... you can look forward to either a stroke, heart attack or cancer. Your anger and unforgiveness will be the death of you... and that is indeed sad. Yes we must never forget what happened but that was then and I see no point in punishing this generation for the sins of their fathers.
Lovely voice - and the German lyrics sound interesting too. The melody is a famous one composed by Ronald Binge in 1951. His other well known compositions are "The Watermill" and "Sailing By".

Why do I need to resolve any issues with the German people? Most of them were Kraut bastards.
Look at the aerial shot of the Schloss at about 38-40 seconds into the video. Do you know that this castle was once an SS barracks?
I'm afraid that with a few exceptions - THE ONLY GOOD KRAUT'S A DEAD ONE.

How dare this fuckin Kraut bitch sing this quintessentially English song - and in fuckin German too. Ronald Binge fought the Kraut bastards in WW 2.
He would be spinning in his grave if he knew that one of them was singing his beloved song in her Nazi fuckin' homeland.
