I've just listened ot the Eva Lind version of this meaningless piece of musical twirling. The miming did not convince and her simpering mouthing was rather sugary. Come on now, it is a shallow,highly contrived piece piece of music . One has the feeling it was written as a commercial exercise for the coronation to make us all feel terribly British. I've not heard it for 20 plus years and don't mind if the interlude lasts another twenty years

I think the best known rendition of this lovely piece would have to be by Ron Goodwin and his orchestra. Certainly that is the one I grew up with. I think Mantovani also made it one of his favourite pieces which is highly probable as Binge arranged a number of pieces for him. I had never heard lyrics put to the tune until I stumbled across this piece sung by Eva Lind.

Elizabethan Serenade was composed by Ronald Binge in 1951. Binge (15 July 1910, Derby 6 September 1979, Ringwood, Hampshire) was a British composer and arranger of light music. He died of liver cancer in 1979, aged 69.

Come Martin, this won't do. I'm English too and proud of our WW2 achievements (before my time), but thats irrelvant to the singing of this song. Eva Lind is Austrian, born in Innsbruck in 1965, 20 years after the Nazi capitulation - yes, Austria was occupied by the Nazis. She has had a distinguished career as a vocalist and is highly respected internationally.

BTW you haven't said who you think wrote this song. I cant find it definitely on the web, I thought it was Gunther Kallmann himself.

In my opinion, I find MartinHH1953's comment about Eva Lind to be most disgusting. Being an American, I believe you still have issues with the German people which you need to resolve.
