Do you have plans of mixing this style of video with your morph type stuff eventually?
When you make your characters, do you make the legs and torso separate?
Also a tip I learned on my current project is that paper mache clay, (bought or homemade) or just paper mache is a great way to get rid of the cardboard look.
My current set is a lot of cardboard, I used the paper mache clay to cover the corners with the holes. You can then sand it down to get it smooth.
