  • This piece was singed by one of the most famous Peking Opera artist in last century. Only the voice is his. The vedio was made separately. The make-up in Peking Opera signifies the charater of the hero. In this one, black and white make-up means the hero is very loyal, with serious morality, is sure of what is right and what is wrong, like the elder Cato of Rome.

  • this is not scary this is culture

  • Why is this in my recommendations... Man i watch some weird stuff.

  • TRIPPIN BALLS

  • I'm Scared O.O

  • sounds like he's in pain D:

  • nuFF sAid BEECHES

  • Im Chinese and I am sick of people saying that this stuff is awfull, though it is a culture that has been around for maybe 2,000

years. Also I do thank the people who are not FUCKIN ASSHOLE'S AND CANNOT GET THE FUCKING STICK OUT OF THEIR ASS ASIANS FTW!!!!!!!! ^_^ -_- -_-

  • fell of my chair

  • wtf im confused????

  • that's scary! :(

  • I can already hear the little children crying. :)

  • Peking opera seems to share some commonalities with Japanese kabuki with obviously differences in dress and singing and perhaps most of all acrobatics. This would be very interesting with subtitles or a narrator who can explain the performance...

  • lived in China for 3 years and that shit is on TV 24/7! it's awful!

  • @bredekrist People who can't appreciate cultures from other nations and say it's awful are truly awful! Just because you don't like it, it's awful? Tell you what, I don't like you, so you're awful? Think again. You don't like it just fuck off, why ruin the comment page of this video?

Next time, use your brain before barking like a dog.

  • @hezixiao barking like a dog? haha i bet you're chinese, so typical :P ruin the comment page? comments are suppose to be the opinion of one persons mind. if it's filled with only good comments then there would not call it a comment section.

  • Muito lindo! Ainda quero ver uma ópera dessas de perto

  • Is this Zhou Tong?

  • my fav countries are china,Japan, and Korea (in no particular order) i am intrested in the culture i hope they teach the languages in highschool plz let me know if they do

  • @FuryOfTheSwarm This is 2 months late, but I am in high school and my school system teaches Japanese, which I am currently learning. So there is hope :) I also applaud your interest in other cultures at your young age. Most people are narrow-minded and think Asian culture is inferior to Western culture. The world needs more people like you. Cheers to promoting understanding between different cultures!

  • @ItachiTenshi thx it means alot

  • @ItachiTenshi

It is such a shame when people think like that, thinking that other cultures are inferior to Western culture. If anything, cultures such as the Chinese are WAAAAAAY older than my Western culture. And for that, I highly respect Chinese culture including its arts, language, history, etc. Even though I do not speak Chinese, I admire Peking Opera so much. Others think Im weird for it but truthfully, they dont know what theyre missing out on in such a splendid art!

  • my fav countries are china,Japan, and Korea (in no particular order) i am intrested in the culture i hope they teach the languages in highschool

  • This is my favorite song:)

  • lol

  • No offense to the chinese, but i think the Europeans had it on the musical side haha

  • @flickded

It's only a difference in cultures. Someone who is not accustomed to this will obviously say such a thing. It takes an acquired "taste" in order to appreciate this than to be babied by European music.

  • ok LAUGH MY FUCKING ASS OFF

  • Although living in a Chinese influenced country, and chinese opera is part of our life (although quite minor) I still think that Chinese opera is hard to understand... However, i dont think that western opera is any easier to enjoy... I think its just not easy to accept all those so called high art...

  • I find western operas .. even moooorrrre boring!

  • that is only high gene( developed brain) can enjoy!

  • sorry I have to correct you here.. only for people with extremely high boredom threshold that can endure Western opera with it's very boring and drab stage settings.. and low dark heavy tone singing..

or Beijing opera.. very difficult to discern the abstract meanings of what they are singing about.. the meanings of hte facial makeups.. the costumes.. the storylines..

believe me.. Beijing opera is far far more difficult to try to understand.. but I prefer Beijing opera in any case regardless..

  • @publicitymaker good for you!!!

  • ZZZzzzzZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzz... (snore)

  • It's funny cuz when I was younger I thought this stuff was so boring and it was baffling to see how much my grandfather enjoyed it...but now im older and i think chinese opera is the one of the most beautiful things ever.

  • Srry i think its a bit weird

  • it should be, it's 200 years old. even i myself, as chinese, found it to be boring, weird, meaningless, but the elders like it very much.

  • could someone translate the text?

i think it is very interesting, not my taste of entertaining, but an old culural relief that should be safed!

  • is that gandalf the dark? xD

  • Haha ~ I have heard this kind of stuff many times and to be honest it is really not for me! But some people really like this kind of thing, yes really! Many older Chinese people love it, so that's cool. Haha ;)

  • I'm neither old nor Chinese but I love it too, especially those strange cymbals :)

Wish I could understand the lyrics.

  • the instrumental accompaniment sounds very much like classical Khmer music

  • that is erhu.

  • lol?

  • ole people like Peking Opera....

  • LOL)

  • bu ne ya?

  • hey people who dont respect other people's culture guess what? there are a lot more people who hate your culture than you hating their culture because at least other coutry people have manner.

  • you rock!

    <3

  • excelente

    donde puedo bajar videos asi????

  • lol

  • lol?!?!?! Why would you say this?

  • they sound like crows

  • I love the film Farewell my Concubine. And being a professional singer, I can really appreciate the vocalisms, here. This Qui man is a master.

  • I begin to love Chinese opera. Thanks for sharing!

  • The hero is General Yao who helped restore the rule of Han dyn some 2000 yrs ago and its prosperity for another 200yrs. He was treated like brothers by the Emp & just called back from the frontline. He is on his way to the court for an exclusive meeting w/ the Emp, little did he know he is heading for a tragedy...This piece shows his loyalty, self-control, grace & sort of anticipation/caution, rightfully so... Sung by Maestro Qiu, one of the operatic legends.

  • Isn't General Yao in the Annals of the Grand Historian by Sima Qian? He was an important founder of Gaozu's Han dynasty. I apologize for some of these loon's comments. I think Beijing opera is awesome. The western ear and eye are unaccustomed to it.

  • What cany ou tellme about the piece of wood he is holding?

  • The name is "Hu笏" where the officers can write some notes on.

  • Many thanks for sharing such rare, classical masterpieces! Hope to see more posted...

  • I'm scared.

  • Me too. Since I was a little kid I'm afraid of chinese people, I find them grotesque, disgusting, gross. They look horrible, the voice of this "opera singer" ,if we might call him so hehe, is scary, the beard freaks me out, the make up is quite scary...

  • Do you like Aida and Norma? They seemed grosteque and scary to me too first time. You have a long way to understand and appreciate the high art of Peking opera, no offense. Just think about it, it is some 800 years' history. In comparison, the Italian opera is just a toddler, or at most, understudy. Now that's the word of Picasso regarding painting...

  • Hehehe, I'm just the clearest example of what Samuel P. Huntington tries (among many other things) to say in his book "The clash of civilizations" by mentioning a world modell based on two poles, the occidental world and the oriental one, being so different, and the funny thing about it is how occidental people (like me) find so strange what oriental people do because there's more people living in Asia but occidental influence is widely spread...

  • One more thing, my friend: Huntington's book is all about the breakup of the Eastern European socialist bloc some 15 years ago. We live in a totally diff world now. Please read Friedman's book "The world is flat" if you haven't yet. Next time I can tell you something about the story behind this piece and why this is a great masterpiece, if you so disire...

  • @yfrankliao1 I would like to know the story ,,, is this the same opera where there is a woman who does a sword dance?

  • My friend, pls try not to use sweeping, judgmental &even derog words for things hard to understand. We're in a small global village where cultures&values crash all the time. U can make the best or the worst of it. If we understand&appreciate each other, you will find we're more alike than un-like... BTW, my son is raised in US but all he knows about Opera is fat ladies&men yell/scream at each other. So much for wide-sprea occidenl influences;-)

  • LOL, you are crazy, aren't you?

  • Chinese opera is some funny shit.

  • at least better than western naked girls dancing(strip)

  • You don't enjoy beautiful women dancing with their ass hanging out? You are then either homosexual or an anti feminist.

  • anti feminist he said. Well, all is there to see.
