A shot bag works well for stretching. Shrinking works much better on a stump. Since I started using a stump, a rarely use a bag. Thanks you for the comment!
Actually the metal is shrinking from the middle to the outside edge. If there is stretch it is in the middle. The outside of the "bowl" will end up in a smaller circumference than the original blank. If you measure radially, you will find that dimension has changed very little, compared to the smaller circumference. Thanks for commenting!

arent you really stretching the metal out towards the edge..the metal now longer between the center and the edge has to curve because it is longer.
