There are hundreds of varieties of the 8 brocades. It is surely no problem, when the movements differ from others. But you should keep attention on your breathing. Seems to be 100% breast breathing, but it should be abdominal.
I think it is such a shame that there is so often so much negativity in peoples response comments. Personally l think it is great that you are still practising and hope you have found the time and effort spent to be beneficial. I also found it to be inspiring enough to make me return to the qigong exercise that l stopped doing some time ago, so many thanks.
You could benefit more if you would slow it down way more. Try to breathe at the rate of 5 or even 4 breaths per minute, and time your movements accordingly. The slower and deeper your breath, the better. Physiological changes take place in your body when you slow your breathing down to 5 breaths per minute or slower that are very beneficial. Also, pull your abs in and push them out in time to your breathing, if you're not already.
@Ge1Ri4 Hi, I was just wondering what kind of physiological changes take place with a very slow breath (apart from slower heart rate, naturally, mental calmness etc.) Are these hormonal or energetic changes (that would carry through outside of practice?) that you speak of?
@ceridwenmarian : google "relaxation response" - it's more than just relaxing. One of the interesting things that happens is that your blood vessels expand, carrying a larger volume of blood past a given point per unit time, and also allowing blood to penetrate capillaries that might previously have been closed. You can circulate a larger volume of blood standing still doing qigong than running for the same amount of time.
@Ge1Ri4 I'm no qigong master or even a beginner. I would say inspite of his welcoming your critisism, I will be playing antagonist.
To my under standing any of these movements could always be done SLOWER, and should be, heck i bet some teachers swear by doing standing tree for a year before moving on.
Also on breathing, everyones bodies must be insyc with their minds, right? I don't imagine everyone having some universal standard that they can just cram their minds and nervous system into.
Perhaps you are new to YouTube and don't understand that people put up videos precisely because they wish to invite comments? :-D As for the quality of the advice I gave, if you had ever even once studied with any experienced qigong teacher, you would not have made that comment. Unless, of course, you just like to try to provoke people, regardless of whether it's a subject that you have any experience in, or indeed, even have any interest in!
@Ge1Ri4 What ever man I'm just trying to keep standards up and bs out. So practice if you love it. Plenty of well know instructors but All I was trying to say is avoid pontification and make some measurable improvements.
Some people comment on the stance. Why you aren't doing some exercises from a horse stance. It depends on who taught you and where there variation originates from. They don't have to be done in a horse stance but when in a deeper stance for bow and arrow shoots the eagle as i call it. your 3rd exercise the more blood flow you have in the body. The reason being that it takes more work to be in a horse stance. And further helps with blood flow. Great job.
I saw the 2004 video. This one is better done a whole lot better. You look a lot more centered in this video and stronger than in the 2004. And you show better muscle control of your body. Great job. I practice the same exercises but have a number of variations. I find the variations interesting from school to school.
On what reason time 2:50 the 2nd brocade that you're using the stnading post instead of the horse stance !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!What you can benefit from this brocade??????
did you use a soft filter on your camera to create this 'ethereal" feeling? or was it in post>?> gausian blur much?
ok about the chi gong_
MUCH BETTER...I was about to rip you to shreds on your original version. the comments regarding your flow and your side to side imbalances were accurate... but you look a lot more controled and centered...and consciderably stronger. Keep it up and don't let critiques allow u to falter.
I haver yet to record myself, so I am sure then I can see my faults also.
I realized I had a smudge of dirt in the middle of my camera lens!........My original version was very rushed indeed and I believe I was high. Now, 5 years later only regular practice and slower movements have allowed for improvements...we'll see in another 5 years...Thanks
Thanks for the video i liked it much ... keep training :)

@Ge1Ri4 Didn't you say you're not even a beginner. Just keep the comments positive if you think people want a "not even beginner's" advice.

I'm using the standing post only because that was what I learned. The benefits are individual.
