apparently it was a guy who came to a members house saying he was a friend of a friend and needed a place to say. so they let him stay and he ended up eating everything in the fridge and racking up a huge phone bill with long distance calls.
they called the person he claimed to be friends with and they discovered that nobody knew who he was and they had a complete stranger staying with them. so they kicked him out and later got this message from him.
Hm? You think you're cool, right? Hm? Hm? When you kicked out people [out of] your house I tell you this, one of three Americans die of cancer, you know? Asshole. You're gonna be one of those. I [don't have the] courage to kick your ass directly. Don't have enough courage for that, I could, you know. You know you're gonna have another accident? You know I'm involved with black magic? Fuck you. Die. Bastard. You think you're so cool, hm? Asshole.
HA!... forgot i posted that! still a funny story.
i would not claim to know information from a blog. its from a book/ interview
"unleashed: the story of tool" its a biography of the band... but when you read it you realize tool probably had little or nothing to do with it. its really just a collection of the interviews they've done since the beginning up to 2009 (i think).
but you also learn that the band often lies in interviews... so who's to say if the story is true...
@RosettaStoned525 maynard was at one of his friend parties and this guy was a rowdy guy so they kicked him out. this isnt directed at maynard its directed at his friend
@RosettaStoned525 was an Italian guy who was living in the house of another guy, a friend of Maynard,he lived there in a condition occupy , but the owner of the house got fed up and run with him , he had no money and plenty to eat ahaha, this started because he said he was a friend of a friend, but was a lie he was not friend of anyone ahaha, a few days later the guy pissed off made this call
Also, not to be a thumbs whore.. but these comments are like all arguing... feel free to thumbs up what seems to be the only rational comment on this page.
I think Maynard may have chose to include this on the album because of this ignorant asshole's comment about Americans dying of cancer. Little did he know Maynard's mother died of cancer... it shows how little we consider the lives of others, how very little empathy we are capable of expressing. Just a thought.
@rashock34 I think you're overthinking it a tad. Maybe he was just like "dude, this would be a cool song". I think it's the antithesis of "Die Eier Von Satan". Die Eier is a violent sounding song that is actually something quite calm. Harry Manback is a calm sounding song that is actually quite violent.
I don't think that Maynard, of all people, was just like "dude this would be a cool song". If anything I believe that may have been his train of though on Die Eier Von Satan, because the song is so comical, yet it sounds evil because of the German and heaviness to it. I think there is thought behind every song he writes, but to my Harry Manback comment, it was just a thought. Whenever I listen to it I think of Maynard's mother, and I'm sure he does too.
Also, who the fuck cares what Maynard would say? I'm sure he welcomes personal interpretations of his music, as do most artists. If you really care that much what Maynard would think if he read these comments, I think YOU overestimate him. He is not a god; in fact I have heard from numerous people who have met him that he is not the humblest person to ever grace our planet. He is very intelligent and artistic, but humble? I don't think so.
If all you intend to do it come on here to discredit my opinion (which really isn't possible, seeing as it is an opinion), you are wasting your time and mine. If you would like to interpret the song another way, and would like to discuss Tool's music in a reasonable manner, I would be open to that, but this is childish.
We cannot pretend to understand MJK, he could just as easily come on here and see your "Dude, this would be a cool song." comment and cry because of the simplicity.
@rashock34 I'm sorry if I sounded mean there... that's not what I intended. I was just trying to write my thoughts... which is hard to do. I was trying to say the same thing you did, we cannot pretend to understand MJK. But sometimes I get a little chuckle of how much Tool fans, myself included a lot of the time, tend to overinterpret the music. In many cases, it's just music.
@rashock34 Exactly. I love this song because it is so calm and relaxing... and violent. I crack up everytime the guy says "Fuck you! Die" just because of the way he says it.
@rashock34 and also, why do you think of Maynard's mother? Did you know her? Because you probably did not know her, another thing Maynard himself would laugh about if he saw you say that.
Because if I'm an going to be honest, I do not know anyone who has had or died of cancer that directly affected me. Maynard dedicated a whole album to his mother and her suffering, "10,000 Days", so in some way, we all have been told stories about Maynard's mother, and she was an inspiration to his music. I think of her because I believe this song was included because of the hateful comment the Frenchman made. He directed it toward Maynard.
Furthermore, I believe Maynard included it because of the Frenchman's comment about Americans dying of cancer. It's the same way when you encounter parents who have retarded children. If you call someone a retard, even jokingly, they will surely be very offended. It is the same here, therefore, I believe it was included in order to disgrace this Frenchy. I won't pretend I understand Maynard's reasoning, but these are my thoughts. Is it so bad to have an original thought?

This song is an actual message left on Gary Helsinger's (Hotsy Menshot) answering machine by a former friend from Italy, whom Gary had just kicked out of his apartment for stealing his roommate's belongings. "Harry Manback" is a reference to routine from the late comedian Bill Hicks. Maynard James Keenan and Danny Carey were both roommates of Bill Manspeaker during Green Jello, and Gary was later roommates with Maynard as well as Billy Howerdel of A Perfect Circle.

"...You know you're gonna have another 'accident'? You know - I'm involved with 'black magic'? Fuck you. Die. Bastard. You think you're so cool, hmm? Asshole. And if I ever see your fucking face around, in Europe or Italy, well I'll -- That time I'm gonna kick your ass...
@EsheAhkura ...Fuck you. Fucking Americans, yankee. You're gonna die outta cancer, I promise. Bang bang. No one does what you did to me. You wanna know something? Fuck you. I want your balls smashed, eat shit. Bastard. Pezzo di merda, figlio di puttana..."
This was actually a phone message to Harry Manback, a neighbor of Maynard James Keenan. This person was at Manback's house and was kicked out after emptying the fridge and running up a huge phone bill before anyone identified him.
whats a vendejo? is it a stupid vending machine? A sidewalk salesman wit too many watches on his arm? oh, you mean pendejo? well then by all means, you win the "PENDEJO DEL ANO" award.
i wish i could talk **** as well as this guy. it's practically poetry. notice how well it all flows. yah mauiwaui311, "you know something? **** you" favorite part. makes me smile.
So, this Italian guy goes to Maynard's house uninvited. He claims to be a friend of a friend of Adam's. So, this guy empties the fridge and ranks up a high phone bill. So they kick his ass out, and this was the message he left Maynard in response.
Add some beach ambiance, some sad music, and you got a work of art.

Harry Man Back......
Hehehehe...

This was actually a phone message to Harry Manback, a neighbor of Maynard James Keenan. This person was at Manback's house and was kicked out after emptying the fridge and running up a huge phone bill before anyone identified him.

No, sorry, Harry Manback was the recipient of the message (an alias for a friend of Maynard's)
triad203 2 years ago
So, this Italian guy goes to Maynard's house uninvited. He claims to be a friend of a friend of Adam's. So, this guy empties the fridge and ranks up a high phone bill. So they kick his ass out, and this was the message he left Maynard in response.
Add some beach ambiance, some sad music, and you got a work of art.
