@KennyH107 No we don't breed at the sanctuary, breeding big cats for a life in a cage is something we disagree with. We would rather put our resources towards rescuing more cats that are in need :)
I love this song and the message behind it. I cry every time I see this video and think about all the poor tigers in the wild and captivity who are treated so poorly and being killed just because they are a tiger.
@jaimie64 Yes, we already knew about his broken tooth and examined it. The tooth is broken off closer to the tip so there is no nerve damage and pain, so it's fine :) Well spotted though!
A awesome animal like this is in extinction, thats so sad =/
there are no dinossaurs more, and we have these animals, that are the most awesome predators/beautifulls of the world. And soon there will be more nothing.
I don't think this song is most appropriate for a worldwide tiger saving campaign.
As much as I wholeheartedly agree with the message, I don't think the message should be targeting China. Being Chinese, I'm quite offended because selling tiger parts is quite taboo in modern China, and as far i know, the educated Chinese all have a great deal of respect for all animals, especially tigers.
@TrippieTrihn Despite this the trade in tigers continues, the demand for tiger parts to be used in traditional medicine is still very strong and wild tiger numbers continue to plummet....
Do anyone cares about the nice pigs?If you have spent any time with pigs at all.You would realize out of all the farmed animals pigs are the nicest and most human like. They are baby like.
But No one cares....
Do you feed the nice pigs to your cats?
Spent some time with them and then see if you would be able to feed the poor pigs to you cats.
@MiniFrostGiant And even if the rescue did feed pigs to the cats, you must understand that if they did not, the cats would die. Would you rather see a pig, who is far from endangered, die before a tiger, which is startlingly close to extinction?
If you care so much about pigs, do something about it. Don't complain to people who are doing a good thing for wild and endangered animals.
You missed the point completely.Grow a brain.or leave other people alone. No one's interested in what you have to say.You must have been told this your entire life so just behave.People don't have time for you.
@TrippieTrihn And yet China is the number one nation responsible for the death of wild tigers. You say "modern educated Chinese" don't do these things and yet in a recent survey among UNIVERSITY students in China showed that while they didn't want tigers to go extinct they still believed that the cultural traditions of using tiger parts were integral to Chinese culture and people should be able to use them. Wake up!
are your cats friendly? they all seem so sweet and playful! but as i know from my own domestic cats, playful often leads to a scratch or a nibble if youre not careful (x
@Mpwhhhizzle1771 quite often they can appear "friendly" but these are wild cats and that can very easily change for many reasons, this is why we don't have any contact with our cats, it's simply too dangerous.
It seems from observation that the tigers, are, 1. not exercised as much as they would be..., 2. are ow because of this 3. have increased body temperature. This is not a healthy cycle to be in.
So my actual suggestions are increase of 1. and decreasing 2 & 3. This will just result in more probable "better health." Though they seem comfortable in their lethargy; like most Americans, and myself. :)
Me too! Except I JUST found out the other day, this year is also the year of the tiger.. Then another 12 years until its the year of the tiger again. So I fail.
@Discosa No we don't breed at BCR, this would just be adding to the problem of big cats living in cages, we would rather help cats that need a home :)
@Discosa Captive bred tigers never get released in to the wild, what needs to be done is to save habitat for the existing tiger sin the wild, if we cannot do this and stop the poaching of these animals we are really in trouble :(
i personally love tigers and hate to here about what happens to them in the wild, circuses, etc. but i have one question.. if a tiger or any of your cats do something wrong do you punish them?
@rollercoasterfreak36 They never do anything wrong in our eyes, they can do whatever they want whenever they want, we don't have any contact with our cats and we don't try and make them do tricks or any of that stupid stuff. If they roar at us and act aggressive etc... we can't be mad at them, they are wild animals and this is what they do from time to time :)
@catsrock2me Isn't she beautiful?....Zabu appears to like to stalk but when it shows the facial shot of her she looks so precious you just want to hug her up....she is breathtakingly beautiful.
I just want to cry: how can people treat these regal animals like they mean nothing? I simply don't get it...
This makes me feel so helpless. The only thing I can do is donate as much as I can to organizations like WWF, SPCA and sanctuaries like BCR. - It hardly seems enough.
@BigCatRescue Oh, sorry! From the name I couldn't tell. No wonder she's so cute! She's a girl! Sorry again, I get really annoyed when people get animal's genders confused and I did it myself!
IS THERE ANYTHING THAT CAN BE DONE IN THE INTERNATIONAL COMMUNITY TO STOP THE TIGER FARMS IN CHINA? CAN ORGANIZATIONS PUT PRESSURE ON THEM TO STOP THIS PRACTICE? IF ANYONE KNOWS OF ANYTHING BEING DONE TO SAVE THESE CATS FROM BEING KILLED IN THIS BARBARIC PRACTICE PLEASE LET ME KNOW...
@DaveTheGamer97 White tigers are commonly bred in captivity, they don't exist in the wild and are often inbred in captivity to create the white tigers... :(
angladesh, India and 11 other tiger range countries (or TRCs) have finalised an ambitious global programme for restoring the diminishing population of the big cats.
The Global Tiger Recovery Program (GTRP) was finalised at the end of a two-day workshop on the Consensus for Conservation held in New Delhi on Saturday. The workshop marked the end of a two-year-long consultation process among the TRCs.
continued: The program is likely to be endorsed by the leaders or their representatives of the 13 TRCs at the Tiger Summit, which is scheduled to be held at the Russian city of St. Petersburg next month.
This will begin a decade-long process of range-wide recovery, built on the implementation of national actions and also trans-border actions to curb illegal trade and demand for tiger parts. The summit will be the first of its kind of its kind.
That was from Oct. 24, 2010. Russia has been serious about protecting its tigers and India is working on fighting poachers and increasing the size of reserves. India is also trying to save its Lions, which are in worse shape that the wild tigers.
OMG, I just saw Yahoo news reporting that wild tigers will extinct in 12 years. My heart is so painful right now. How can we help the wild tigers? I know poaching is the biggest problem and the Asian governments don't seem to put enough efforts to prevent poaching, trading and killing tigers. US government or rich nations don't seem to voice such issue in any international meeting or conference as well. Can we change tigers' fate?
People should start herbal medicine to China or Viagra, or passion fruit or tomatos. They should do the same for the People in Africa who want to kill rhinos as they can be studs.
@BigCatRescue Damn! They have no rights in my eyes! I feel so bad for those Lions! Shame on them (the circus)! The Lions are just not to to be abused, used, etc... Why can't they just let them live there lives in peace! Understanding that you guys are there to help the big cats when they can not make it on there own is wonderful! But to harm them just gets me so mad!! Thank You for letting me know!
Behold! what furious majestic beast? Handsome indeed! Peace and blessings unto those care takers of these delightful creatures. Am a proud owner of a tiger-like tabby, we embrace each other daily wit love, a licking of my calf, and knee along wit play biting it holdin my flesh in his mouth , purring as he climb me as a tree, hide go seek game, the purchase of baby clothing for him is how our love is shown for each other. Much thanks for video!
@Sandmaven Awww, I had a special warm spot for King, he had come so far!! I'll look again for Miss Cookie - she is one of my favorites, also. Of course, I was very glad to see my handsome Shere Khan! Thanks for replying! :o) RIP, King, you were truly Royal.
the sad thing is that maybe captivity might be the best place for them (ie hunters and habitat change). these are stunning creatures and I suppose whatever is best to keep them around.
I love how there mannerisms are so similar to even little house cats. its great
This is going to sound like a dumb question but is your place wheelchair accessible? I really want to go when I get back home but unfortunately I can't walk far anymore or stand long..Thank you..
@stoughton1 Yep! The sanctuary isn't paved as such, our tour paths are gravel and just dirt ground, but we provide golf carts for guests who require them and is no problem whatsoever :) Hope you make it to BCR!
@Snauzer67 No, tigers do not live in the wild in the USA, we rescue captive tigers from bad situations and provide them with a home for the rest of their lives, we also support conservation projects around the world :)
Beautiful animals! Watching how similar their behavior is to a house cat's makes me think, if domestic cats were a little larger, say 60 lbs or so, they wouldn't be safe as pets!
@Muchachinko No, this isn't done, we need to protect habitat for the cats out there in the wild now, if we do this the numbers will increase. Our tigers are not good genetic specimens cross bred etc... they also associate people with food and are not afraid of them and don't know how to hunt, they would not do well in the wild.
We should try to not let the tigers become like the other 99.95% of all the other spices on earth that have become extinct in the past 4 and a half billion years.
I love how Zabu thinks s/he is hiding behind that little plant. :3
However, on a serious note I recently learned that many of these big cats kept in "pet" zoos or such are quite inbred...and that makes me sad for these noble beasts basically to garner money irresponsible breeders are poisoning the species with cats that are too closely related...a good example would be the beautiful but tragic tale of the White Tiger...one of the most inbred types of tigers at the moment! :(
The tigers at BCR are beautiful, beautiful creatures. The plight of tigers overall is truly dire. A once magnificent creature now virtually hunted to the brink of extinction...is murdered for profit and farmed (in certain parts of the world), only to be breed and ultimately murdered or sold again. What man has done to this creature (and most other big cats) is a black spot on the face on humanity. We should be ashamed of ourselves, truly.
D: I'd cry if tigers went exctinct. I almost cried when I saw that there were only 4000 tigers left. Why are they going extinct anyway? What's happening? Other than them selling tiger parts in China.
The terrible truth is that 99.9% of every species that ever lived has gone extinct and it's a part of nature. Yes, many species would still be around and prospering if humans didn't exploit them and wreck they're chances but part of me thinks that saving specific endangered species is out of our control. Tigers wont go extinct, at least not in the foreseeable future but they will likely all be domesticated. Right? Kind of like how there aren't really any wild cows.
@bunpika121 Yeah we do know, most of the cats we rescue are mature and always have a name already which we keep, we have Simba tiger and Simba leopard but no Simba lion!
@BigCatRescue - Help! I went on the BCR site and attempted to send an email to the decision makers (re Tony the truck stop tiger) but it wouldn't accept my 6 digit canadian postal code. Is there any suggestion you can make to help? Thank you!
@shupakku No wild cat species can be tamed, they can be trained to a certain point, but millions of years of evolution never leave these animals and if one day they decide they don't like you anymore they'll attack and kill you, simple as that.
your tigers seem so much happier then the ones at my local zoo what do you do differenty then the zoos

@stoughton1 Yep! The sanctuary isn't paved as such, our tour paths are gravel and just dirt ground, but we provide golf carts for guests who require them and is no problem whatsoever :) Hope you make it to BCR!

Donate instead to russian organisations that support the tigers in the wild. Not this american site. I dont think tigers live wild in America.
Snauzer67 1 year ago
@Snauzer67 No, tigers do not live in the wild in the USA, we rescue captive tigers from bad situations and provide them with a home for the rest of their lives, we also support conservation projects around the world :)
BigCatRescue 1 year ago
@BigCatRescue nice thing to do for sure. But they need the money in former USSR

Tiger, what a kind of beautiful cat, they should live in wild, not in a damn cage, or treat as home cat

That's great but some one needs to save the jaguars in the US
Wawaweewaj 1 year ago
Beautiful animals! Watching how similar their behavior is to a house cat's makes me think, if domestic cats were a little larger, say 60 lbs or so, they wouldn't be safe as pets!
ExUSSailor 1 year ago
@ExUSSailor So true!!! Dogs would be pretty dangerous too.. imagine the puddles of drool from some species!

Nikita sure loves water.
Question, do big cats hate water as much as small ones?
cadkins90 1 year ago
@cadkins90 Most species do, except tigers, jaguars and fishing cats these species love water! :)
BigCatRescue 1 year ago
do you ever release the tigers back out into the wild?
Muchachinko 1 year ago
@Muchachinko No, this isn't done, we need to protect habitat for the cats out there in the wild now, if we do this the numbers will increase. Our tigers are not good genetic specimens cross bred etc... they also associate people with food and are not afraid of them and don't know how to hunt, they would not do well in the wild.
BigCatRescue 1 year ago

TheLongAndWindingRd 1 year ago
D: I'd cry if tigers went exctinct. I almost cried when I saw that there were only 4000 tigers left. Why are they going extinct anyway? What's happening? Other than them selling tiger parts in China.
DavidWellz 1 year ago
@DavidWellz They are suffering from multiple problems, poaching is a huge problem, as is habitat destruction
BigCatRescue 1 year ago
@BigCatRescue Poaching is illegal right? If so then why is, like, the government not doing anything about it? What can we do about it?
DavidWellz 1 year ago
Do you castrate big cats?
KesoXorganoff 1 year ago
@KesoXorganoff Yes, we do, we also spay our female cats, we do not breed at BCR :)
BigCatRescue 1 year ago
@BigCatRescue Another question. Why don't you all breed? I bet it'd help the population. But you guys are the experts, so there must be a reason.
DavidWellz 1 year ago
The terrible truth is that 99.9% of every species that ever lived has gone extinct and it's a part of nature. Yes, many species would still be around and prospering if humans didn't exploit them and wreck they're chances but part of me thinks that saving specific endangered species is out of our control. Tigers wont go extinct, at least not in the foreseeable future but they will likely all be domesticated. Right? Kind of like how there aren't really any wild cows.

so you basically named a tiger Lion....
I'm not saying its a bad name, but why?
bunpika121 1 year ago
@bunpika121 Yeah we do know, most of the cats we rescue are mature and always have a name already which we keep, we have Simba tiger and Simba leopard but no Simba lion!

@shupakku No wild cat species can be tamed, they can be trained to a certain point, but millions of years of evolution never leave these animals and if one day they decide they don't like you anymore they'll attack and kill you, simple as that.
