Similar thing happened to me when I swapped out the burnt 4R70W in my '94 Mark VIII, no third gear, for a more durable j-modded '98 Grand Marquis tranny. Leak problem turned out to be a busted dipstick o-ring. Replaced it, and no more leakage. Might want to check that out. Good luck with the fix.

@Tractionless Hope it's just that. Debating Jmod or Bowman kit and will do dipstick at same time.
